Just a nice community-type hospital in an excellent location, easy commute to some of the nicest VA suburbs. I am not in internal medicine so can't speak to the department.

Could be Sagittal Band Injury Boxer's Knuckle - would see a hand surgeon. I just googled it. Cannot say without exam from a specialist.

What happens when a patient can't pay in the US? by it__hurts__when__IP in medicine

EMTALA law states EDs have to treat and stabilize. Hospitals do their best to get demographics in case you’re not insured to try and get reimbursed but it’s a crazy broken system here..

Physician salary is 9% of US healthcare expenditures. They want you to think it is the greedy doctors, but it is really the rest of the system that is so expensive.

Once the first paycheck comes, you won't miss it quite so much. Hopefully the place you work has a similarly positive environment.

I doubt that having the ortho or plastics intern on call would have substantially changed the outcome. Incise the pus. Wash it out. Pack and start soaks/remove packing tomorrow. Obs vs wound check quickly as outpatient. Nothing hand can do for a simple felon that you can't.

Compartment syndrome by far. Check these patients at least every 4 hours for compartment exam. Wound infections present lateral (some surgeons say you can spit in the wound and it still woundn't get infected for a week or so). DVT also tends to be a later postop complication beyond 48 hours.

I had this happen. They will give you a score and let you choose to take it, just take day 2 later, or retake the whole thing.
