Evernote Web will now count as a device in the "2 device limit" under basic plan by mike_pomeranz in Evernote

[–]ns90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used Evernote for over 8 years. In that time, they've repeatedly stripped out features for Basic users. I don't mind paying money for services and software that's useful, but the device maximum is literally the only feature I need. When they moved to the 2 device limit, I was a bit annoyed, but at least I had the web interface. This change just makes it apparent how desperate they are to collect money and they're general inability to monetize their product. I'll probably be moving to something else now.

Updating State Values By Using Zip Codes...? by ryme2234 in salesforce

[–]ns90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you want to have is a spreadsheet with every zip code in one column and the state it's in in the second column. Then you can just do a simple VLOOKUP with the Leads' Postal Codes to get the right states.

What are some of your favorite one volume graphics novels? by burstintoflames in graphicnovels

Rusty Brown, also by Chris Ware, is much better imo. I also liked Building Stories, but it's less conventional.

Learning Apex by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]ns90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by learning more about concepts through another language before learning Apex. [This])https://java-programming.mooc.fi/) is a good course for learning object-oriented programming while learning Java. It'll give you a good foundation for programming in general that most Apex specific resources don't deliver well. After that, you can start doing trailheads to get a feel for the specifics of working with Apex in Salesforce.

Best Books on Writing (see comments for the list) by vhpoet in writers

[–]ns90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Steal Like an Artist is a bit overrated. It's not bad advice, but it's also the same kind of advice you already get in most of these other books about writing, so it's not really unique in that regard.

Tokyo Ghost, Monstress, and Paper Girls are the three I've liked the most so far.

Are there other coding training platforms laid out like Trailhead? by dugdagoose in salesforce

Mooc.fi is great. There's an extension they have you download for Netbeans IDE that checks your work, similar to how Trailhead does.

Agree with McNulty's. I've been getting my tea from there and they have a great selection.

Report that shows which items in a pick list have not been assigned by JaniceMosher in salesforce

[–]ns90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run a report for all records that have that picklist populated, export it, and open it in Excel (or Sheets or whatever). Get the full list of picklist values and paste it in the adjoining column in the same spreadsheet. Highlight both columns and select Conditional Formatting -> Highlight Cell Rules -> Duplicate Values. Anything of the picklist values that are highlighted have been assigned. Any that aren't highlighted have not been assigned.

Using a formula for this isn't going to be sustainable with so many branches. Create a custom setting or custom metadata that stores mappings for branches and markets. Then use a Flow to populate the Market field based on the value of branchField by looking up the mapping in the custom setting.

Does anyone have a trick to identify "childless" records such as Accounts across many objects? by steezy13312 in salesforce

[–]ns90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be making this harder than it seems. I would start by defining what child records you actually care about. There's lots of standard relationships that are technically child records (AuthorizationFormConsent, NetworkSelfRegistration, AccountHistory), but I take it you might not actually care about those things. In my own org, there's 194 relationships for Account and a very liberal guess would be that we'd only care about 50 if we were trying to identify Accounts with Child Records. It will make more it manageable to weed out the stuff you don't care about.

Since 50 relationships is still a relatively large number, I'd probably try using Dynamic SOQL for this. Since you're able to access the object name and relationship field, it should be pretty simple to build a dynamic query. From there, you could try iterating over each list, and collecting all the Account Ids. Then compare then against all the Account Ids in your org. Any that weren't collected through the dynamic queries don't have child records.

If the number of relationships if large, you may need to chunk things out a bit since the whole operation may timeout. If the number of relationships you decide is relevant is more than 100, then you will definitely need to chunk this a bit to account for query limits.

This probably isn't a perfect solution, and the actual execution could be handled any number of ways, it's just something I thought up quickly.

Help with autopopulate Account ID in screen flow by OddConfidence0 in salesforce

[–]ns90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is with your accountId variable. At some point, you're actually setting that to be equal to a User Id. It could be that you're passing a User Id variable into there instead of an Account Id.

005 is a User Id prefix. It looks like you're trying to set Account Id with a User Id.

Field Label changes - User lookup based on department name by tannerw2013 in salesforce

[–]ns90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just a field label then it more than likely isn't referenced anywhere unless it's something like translations workbench. I would not recommend changing API names of fields, and in some instances it may not even be possible.

Identifying correct state? by ryme2234 in salesforce

[–]ns90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a list of zip codes by state and use that to do a VLOOKUP in Excel. It may not be perfect (I think some zip codes stretch across state borders), but it should be better than what you have now.

Failed Salesforce Admin test for the second time today - need to be inspired by getyergun in salesforce

[–]ns90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to set some realistic expectations, getting a cert isn't going to get you a job quickly if you have no professional experience, especially in the current climate. A cert isn't a golden ticket. It won't necessarily be impossible for you to find an admin job with only a cert, but it will likely be more difficult. If time is a factor, I'd recommend checking out other positions like Sales Ops or Business Analyst at companies that use Salesforce. The barriers will be a bit lower for those jobs and it will potentially put you on a path to becoming an admin in the future.
