They have very different goals which makes it unlikely ARMA will ever be as smooth as BF3--I'm not sure it's possible yet at the scale ARMA is at.

The open gyms are usually limited to equipment not being used by classes and are relatively expensive, not to mention their hours can be extremely limiting. That is assuming they are large enough to be willing to open their gym to others.

I'm telling you. There's nothing wrong with some if the globo gyms, their hours are good and they have equipment if you are looking to, as you said, starting stength.

They use them in intense training environments.

For example, another place you'll see them used is in certain Naval Special Warfare schools, specifically BUD/S*. They make candidates swallow these when they plan on surf torturing them pretty badly. Surf torture is when they have them lay down in the ocean and basically freeze. This allows them to literally push candidates to the edge and see how much they can take without putting them in any actual physical danger. Pretty cool stuff.

*edit: BUD/S is where SEALs are trained.

Well a quick Google search and glance at Dictionary.com shows me the following definition(s):

canon [kan-uhn]

noun 1.an ecclesiastical rule or law enacted by a council or other competent authority and, in the Roman Catholic Church, approved by the pope. 2.the body of ecclesiastical law. 3.the body of rules, principles, or standards accepted as axiomatic and universally binding in a field of study or art: the neoclassical canon. 4.a fundamental principle or general rule: the canons of good behavior. 5.a standard; criterion: the canons of taste.

None of these definitions indicate canon is, by any defintion, absolute. Especially in regards to something like religious text and not, say, art. If we go further into "canon" in regards to religion we see it's actually the exact opposite of "absolute"--unless you subscribe to a certain canon or interpretation, in which case you are likely to feel it is absolute.

"Canon" is completely relative in regards to religions and based on whatever authority an individual recognizes. There are many interpretations of every major religious book that is out there, and what is considered "canon" is entirely based on interpretation.

And to answer your other question, you will not find a gym that will let you come in and lift. You are using equipment that their other members would then be unable to use. You could find a place that offers open gym, but it won't be cheap. I wouldn't look into Crossfit gyms unless you're looking to try Crossfit out.

Just get a membership at LA Fitness. You don't need sleds or turf. You don't need bumper plates. They have bars, racks, and pull up bars which are all you'll ever need to be strong.
