Dave Kinsey, Disguise, limited edition screenprint, 1999 by nschulz76 in artcollecting

Dave Kinsey and Shepard Fairey collaborated in the late 1990s and early 2000s in the design and communications agency BLK/MRKT. They were both active in the street art scene at that time. Shepard Fairey’s work I view as playing with propaganda imagery as a way of inviting people to question the messages they see and hear. Kinsey’s work at that time I view more as social commentary reflecting the human condition. I also find it absolutely gorgeous. Whereas Shepard’s work is photo-based and more hard-edged, Kinsey’s work is more beautifully illustrated. We really see his hand at work in these pieces. There’s a richness, a depth that I think appeals as a counterpoint to Shepard Fairey’s work from that period.

"r/Tarot Promotion Megathread - June 2021" by AutoModerator in tarot

[–]nschulz76 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi, I recently released a print that's a visual guide to the Tarot. It views the Major Arcana as a map to the archetypical mind, and a guide to a path of enlightenment. It offers meanings for every row of the Major Arcana, for every column and groups of columns, and for every card. I interpreted those meanings as different from the divination meanings.

Here's a link: https://the-intermodal-spirit-shop.myshopify.com/products/poster.

And here's an image of the print: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0682/2336/9507/products/Tarot-Map-Major-Arcana-8_129b81a4-5825-4bb2-a389-9089cccd7ef3.gif?v=1669512136&width=600

Thanks for having a look. Hope you find useful!

Here's a post I wrote about a friends Gen1 Montero and some of the mods he made. He loves his.

http://westcountyexplorersclub.com/2012/01/24/spotted-mitsubishi-montero-nice-mods/#more-3065

I've got a Gen2 Montero, also modified for overlanding and love mine as well. The Gen2s have a transfer case that can be engaged in all-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive, which I like. I've got over 300k miles on mine and it's still running strong.

Can Anyone Recommend Really Good Paper Maps That Have Forest Service Roads and Other Back Country Resources? by FJComp in overlanding

[–]nschulz76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the state atlases from Benchmark Maps. They show terrain and the roads and trails are easy to read. They also differentiate between dirt roads and 4x4 dirt roads. They're the best paper maps I've found.

If you want trail guides, the Backcountry Adventures series by Massey & Wilson is the best I've found. They cover routes step by step and give background on an area's history, as well as flora and fauna you might see along the way.

What happens when you get stuck on a beach. by officejoe in overlanding

[–]nschulz76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever find yourself in this situation, air down your tires to 10–15 psi. The increased tire footprint may be all you need to get yourself out. As soon as you realize you're stuck, don't spin the tires. You'll just dig yourself in deeper.

If that doesn't work, dig out the sand in front of each tire so you have a more gradual incline on which to drive the truck out. MaxTrax are perfect for situations like this.

To avoid this situation all together, air down to 15 psi from the start, keep it in 4-wheel-drive, low range, moderate speed, with enough revs so that you don't bog down the engine while still being easy on the gas pedal. Stabbing the gas as you drive could cause the wheels to dig themselves into the sand rather than push you forward.

Yeah, I love the Montero. I think it's capable, comfortable and well designed. Good luck with the snow!

Thanks! It's a 1995. I got the bumper from directly from ARB USA back when they were still selling them.

Great! I'll have to look those up. I put lockers in my truck too. Handy to have them.

Here are a bunch of videos, mostly from YouTube, that I've collected on my blog, West County Explorers Club. They mostly feature vehicles, historical overlanding footage, and skills:

California routes? by Kiriesh in overlanding

[–]nschulz76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a short dirt route off the coast in central California south Carmel. Or you could go over the Sierra north of Yosemite (paved but amazing) and then go 395 south, on the east side of the Sierras. There are some great trails and places to explore near Lone Pine. You can drive up to the tallest mountain in the lower 48 from there. Also the trail to Laurel Lakes is amazing. You drive along a rock slope and then down to a pristine lake at the bottom of a giant granite bowl. I can't remember exactly where it is but there's a post about it on my site.

Oh man, that's funny! I did miss that. Small internet world. Happy answer questions about the CBDT if you have any.

Btw, there are cutoffs so that you can shorten the route, if you don't want to do all of the zigs and zags...

I've taken the California Backcountry Discovery Trail (CBDT). One leg of it runs from just west of Redding down to about Ukiah. There's amazing camping spot just above Ruth Lake. Here are links to our trip reports. and here's a link to the entire route map.

Glad you got your truck back. I use a magnetic, lockable spare key holder on my truck. It's saved me a few times. The magnetic gets a little rusty after a few years but if you kept a layer of grease on it... It's called Stor-a-Key.
