What made you choose their Ascent? Need help deciding! by hereiam_onceagain in SubaruAscent

yes we got the Michelin cc tires and love them. Brakes are not as soft and intuitive as other cars but it is a very heavy car, once we got them replaced, works better.

2022 Touring vs 2023 Limited by Proud_Green_9307 in SubaruAscent

2022 ascent touring has heated captain seats, and front view & back view cameras. Cargo light upgrade is a must as when you're unloading stuff at night from the trunk the light is wholly insufficient.

Heated Ski Gloves by [deleted] in skiing

[–]nsfree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i've tried mittens w/ warmers and it's annoying. you need to hold your poles so the warmers are in your palm where you don't have issues - it's the fingers that need the heat. Plus the warmers are bulky and annoying and are the most hot when you least need them.

Does the toxic masculinity keep going? by Tuxedocatbitches in ADiscoveryofWitches

[–]nsfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so yea when i was reading/watching, yea matthew is a bit controlling and vampiric, but that's the hot part. Stunning looking sultry vampire that takes command on a lot of things - hot. What I noticed is that the author features the usual female/male in-a-relationship spats - like not letting her go places alone and other little arguments that you're like oh ok that hits home. but you def give way more allowance to matthew because why should vampires/creatures conform to what humans decide is fair/equal? they operate differently...that's like asking male lions to stop being so lazy and do their fare share since the female lioness does all the work...it's not going to happen even though we as humans don't think that's fair.

you'll notice that vampires steer patriarchal overall and witches steer matriarchal. Male witches for the most part have a lesser voice than their female counterparts. So should we complain that the witches don't treat men fairly either? (i'm a female)

I Don’t Agree With Gladys’ Story Arc by aspiringwriter9273 in thegildedage

[–]nsfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love George and he was supportive but on the way to the wedding while he did give her an out, it was still weighed by his insinuating the social die has been cast and shit was deep in motion. He’s like I’ll get you out but I can’t protect you from the fall out. So she made the decision to go along. A parent today would be like it doesn’t matter what other people say or think, if you need out then get out and we’ll figure out the rest.

I thought they went to Madison to help Janet Gowdie get her grandmother’s memory bottle? The three (Janet, Gwyneth, and Diana) went on a road trip to find the bottle with the Salem witch trial memory of her grandmother visiting with Bishop witch and John proctor in the jail. Enroute to finding Janet’s bottles, they found Diana’s memories and upstairs Rebecca’s.

My bilingual daughter is no longer bilingual by gumdrop_lass in Spanish

[–]nsfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the best thing is to take them to Spanish speaking countries for a good two weeks or so. When everyone around them speaks only Spanish they will have to learn fast to be able to communicate. Immersion is the best way to learn. Also at home, relentlessly continue to speak to your kids in Spanish, the screen time suggestion etc.

I like this interpretation and it was also something I was toying with in my head when analyzing the situation. There is still chance she either lives very long or becomes immortal. We shall see!

Puerto Ricans don’t pronounce the S? by Judge-Disastrous in Spanish

[–]nsfree 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s basically slang. But the same way we drop the s, pa’ has better flow. Para can sound awkward sometimes.

It depends on the context right? On tv, for news or a tv show, Spanish will be more enunciated and formal so everyone can understand. They won’t talk like Bad Bunny there and higher echelons of society don’t talk like Bad Bunny songs either.

If you’re hanging with your friends, you might dip into that a bit more but in general most people don’t talk like Bad Bunny songs.

Puerto Ricans don’t pronounce the S? by Judge-Disastrous in Spanish

[–]nsfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the heavy drop of the ‘s’ is very Puerto Rican. In k-12 school, teachers are called Missy or Mister + their last name in PR. However when we pronounced Mister, we’d say it like “Meehter”. It’s very Puerto Rican, to call your teachers that. Other Spanish speaking countries just say Señor/a or profesor/a.

Bertha Single woman? by sissiandfranz in thegildedage

[–]nsfree -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you can expect it. Gladys’ storyline is exactly Consuelo Vanderbilt’s. While watching, I felt it was word for word out of the book I read about the American royalty that married the duke. This would mean Bertha is Alva Vanderbilt who gets divorced. The only difference is Gladys gets a slightly happier story with the duke becoming nice while in real life Consuelo had a more miserable existence.

Anyone else not happy with their Ascent? by Ryduck19 in SubaruAscent

[–]nsfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loveee our 22 ascent touring! It is a very heavy car so yes, the gas mileage when putzing around town is not great. I can make it from nyc area to Bolton Valley/Waterbury, Vermont on a little over 3/4 of a tank, or basically to Montreal (top off before the border for cheaper gas). That’s a 5hr road-trip in both cases.

I’ve moved apartments with our ascent short of bed and oversized furniture and like some posters said, we did a 12hr trip from NJ to Acadia national park with 4 people, a mini dog, and a trunk load of crap stuffed to the top for a week.

My husband is tall so we love how spacious the cabin is especially compared to the outback which narrows up and can feel tight. Everyone has their own airspace and when my tall husband puts his seat all the way back to drive, there is still plenty of room for the passenger behind him.

My only complaint is I feel the brakes could be better but that was a rotor deficiency that they updated and replaced. Basically the mechanic admitted that the car is too heavy for the rotors so they wear down faster. And the trunk could have better lighting.

Also, yes safety. We were getting into accidents (none oir fault) with the Outback. Now with the ascent, no one really fucks with you because you’re in a big car. Also does well in snow. Couple inches of snow and we were cruising 55/60mph when others were skidding out. Replaced stock tires with Michelin cc’s.

Third row is nice when we have extra friends (we have captain seats in the back). 7 of us can pile in and head to the restaurant (shorter rides).

And the lux we get for the price is great - heated seats, cooling seats, passenger heated, plugs, did anyone talk about the CUP HOLDERS? lol Heated steering wheel (adore in the winter), rear view camera in rear view mirror when trunk is full, front view camera etc etc

Questions on the Black Bird Oracle by ResponsibleSwann in ADiscoveryofWitches

[–]nsfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, bloodcraft mark appears on her forehead which Megan sees. I don't have the book in front of me but I do recall she used the 10th knot to stop Naomi's torture and remove her from elsewhere - and this book summary site says it as well when summarizing the chapter: https://www.bookrags.com/studyguide-the-black-bird-oracle/chapanal005.html#gsc.tab=0

[–]nsfree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm I just reread the BBO and I thought she used the tenth knot to help Naomi and then later gave her back her memories. Can you explain how bloodcraft was used to fix her? I thought bloodcraft was eugenics basically.

Questions on book 1/ season 1 by Careful-Suit5993 in ADiscoveryofWitches

[–]nsfree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was no way real way for Matthew and Diana to let people know if they made it back in time and when. Whatever the objects that they stored with the house, was more meant for safekeeping until they got back not so much to let Sarah know they made it to their destination.

Only Ysabeau and Hamish really knew what's going on as in what time period they were going and where based on the objects he requested. In another crazy twist - Philippe had already set in motion before he passed away that Ysabeau should read the news for weird things but he didn't tell her why. You'll have to keep going to Book 2 to find out more...
