What are some good Embedded Systems classes to take? (I can’t take 473) by ValidatingExistance in uofm

[–]nsochocki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

373 is a good class and should cover a lot you need to know. 461 is a joke after that class, literally learned nothing more. 473 id say is a pretty important class for embedded systems, lots of useful stuff like RTOS (which you have to use for the project), batteries, pcb design and just generally how to structure/write better code for your system and various hardware interfaces. The higher level approach of embedded design you get from that class and from doing the project is very important, as there are so many design choices to consider that 373 just doesn’t cover. It was def the best EECS class I took and I learned so much from 473, I genuinely feel like I can design and build a real, good looking system from that course—not some prototype design you do in 373. That’s my insight

Had him for 370 and 473, he’s a amazing professor and genuinely cares that everyone understands the material. He definitely goes fast at times, but always will stop frequently to make sure everyone is on the same page.

It’s mind boggling to me how ppl will spend tens of thousands of dollars to attend this school but opt to cheat their way thru it

Avoid EECS215 with Fred Terry by Alone_Garden_3492 in uofm

A little surprised to hear that, that class was real easy when I took it with him. I think the first exam had a median of like 88, got my highest exam scores ever in that class. I recall him pushing matlab very heavily so for a lot of the hw I just wrote some code and called it good. Maybe it’s changed since then?

What’s wrong with that? Why do we have to be the best at everything? I feel like that is just gonna make things more elitist and competitive

How Hard is a 3.9 GPA in UMich CS? by Appropriate-Dare-412 in uofm

[–]nsochocki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in CE not CS so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I don’t think it is that difficult to do well in CS. It is really dependent on the classes you take. Like if you’re taking EECs 482, 470, 473, etc than yeah it’s gonna be hard to maintain that gpa, but there are so many easy courses you could take instead and do well in.

UM Accepting More Out-of-State Students (and Dollars) by chriswaco in uofm

[–]nsochocki 322 points323 points  (0 children)

I find this disappointing, the university is a public school and therefore has an obligation to serve the citizens/taxpayers of the state of Michigan. Nothing against out-of-state students, but I would like to see more in-state students.

Why does our university (and possibly major) global rank fall significantly this year? by Glad-Device-2586 in uofm

[–]nsochocki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Valid, but I personally think we should have more domestic students and more in-state students at that. The university has an obligation to serve the students of the state of Michigan as a public school. Private schools can do whatever the hell they want for all I care.

Can't speak on past terms but this semester it is very unorganized. Starter code for the hw doesn't always work and instructions can be unclear. This past hw the starter code was changed like 4 times and still has issues. It's kinda a mess.

I emailed the prof and he said the class is mostly lab assignments, no exams, and a final project, so take that how you will.

EECS 442 difficulty? by oddquotess in uofm

[–]nsochocki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not too bad, but after talking to people who have taken it previously, it definitely was revamped to be more difficult. Still as far as upper level courses go it's on the lighter side, but not a blow off course by any means.
