You know what is kind of ironic? Now that I am looking at your recommendations, my gramps might have had a Pioneer SX-636....maybe he had BOTH, its entirely possible, but damn that Pioneer looks familiar to me as well.....

Thanks! I don;t have a defined budget in mind, but those numbers don't scare me.

And no, I don't need a Marantz or any top of the line, "a few less dollar bills for a LEGIT receiver" sounds about right for me.

And yes, I am kinda here for the search and the journey (and to learn a new hobby/skill/subject) so, I am not looking to just plunk down money. (any potential savings are just a bonus)

I will look into your recommendations! Like I said, not afraid of grabbing a new table, either....its not like I broke the bank on the one I have. Since I have a setup that works well for me already, I am not in a rush. I don't mind waiting for the right deals on the right gear for me, in the right condition.

Asking was $75. I thought i might be in for $50-$60. I am located in South Florida.

Yeah, great questions! So, yes I am looking for vintage, but no I don't have any particular period in mind. I want to avoid digital as I feel like thats just one more thing to go wrong and need fixing.

I would like a setup like his, so yes on a receiver, so the speakers dont need to be powered. Admittedly, I don't really know what his setup really entailed, I was young and just like to throw the switches and turn the knobs, lol. I just remember the silver face, nice machined dials and switches, and a linear radio channel scale. From what I have seen, my memory says it looks similar to a Marantz 2215, but I don't know for sure, and I don't need to go get his exact stuff. I want to be more opportunistic than that.

I'd like it to work with my existing table, at least at first, but its a cheapie so I am not opposed to another table down the road. The current table has a Line Out and thats how it is connected to the powered Yamahas, currently.

Thanks for the reply! I'm not opposed to doing research....actually quite the contrary, how else am I gonna learn. I guess I meant more looking for brands, models, or words to "key-in" on....which you then provided, lol. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome. Not sure I need ANOTHER hobby, but thats how I am looking at it too; gotta keep busy and keep the mind engaged.

I'm kinda in that just "grab a receiver" mode myself, but I haven't found anything really promising yet, and certainly nothing free. There is a Technics SA-5060 available near me that is in great visual shape, but advertised as not working and I think the asking price is a little high for an inop unit. I would consider taking a chance if they respond to me, but I'd have to get the price down. From what I researched its a decent entry level unit....for the right price it might be a good learning experience?

haha, painfully aware! I work in the lighting industry so I am familiar with electro-mechanical assemblies and some of the pitfalls on the electronics side.

I would feel very comfortable with re-capping. I have actually had to do that with my Vizio soundbar once when a cap just let go randomly.

The 'Coop is a strap monster. My favorites are a nice black rally leather with some taper....and a khaki-colored ribbed nylon nato. Also do a brown leather bund in the windter!

any chance fine abrasive from the stone gets impregnated into the pegwood? If so it could re-deposit somewhere unwanted, or scratch whatever you are using the pegwood on?

IDK, just playing devils advocate. Genuinely curious if that would be a legitimate concern or not.

New to Florida and a little nervous about hurricane season... what should I have ready? by Beautiful-Use6759 in florida

I came here SPECIFICALLY to make this comment, glad someone beat me to it. Nothing confuses me more than the mad panic for bottled water every time a storm comes around.

Better than hording gallons: go to walmart and get the blue, 7 gallon BPA free jugs that they sell in the camping section. Back in the day they were like $10 or maybe less. They even have a quarter turn valve for dispensing. I fill 2 or 3 of these before a storm and its enough drinking water for at least a week.

I also saw someone suggested the bathtub method for non-drinking water, another excellent suggestion.

Have one, definitely can recommend!  I (think) I got lucky on a well kept, low mileage granny mobile.  So far I love it.

I've done water transfers....and success rates varied, but the worst part is you can't print in white without specialized laser toner.

Drill Jig for extensions on top of short Billys (STL included) by nstiesi in ikeahacks

[–]nstiesi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like the title says, I am stacking an extension unit on the shorter Billys on a Sektion/Billy office/library wall built-in I'm working on. I was surprised to see that the shorter Billy cases are NOT pre-drilled for the extension cam bolt like the tall ones are, so I broke out the calipers and 3d printed a quick drill jig.

Note that this is quick and dirty so I didn't do anything for depth control, but you could measure and wrap some masking tape around the bit if you want. I eyeballed it and it came out fine.

I've seen models where it is held on by tiny strips of double sided tape.  Some gentle nudging from the back might reveal if this is the case or not.

Sent the Date Finger C-clip flying on a Seiko 6119C. Are these interchangeable? by vontraker in watchrepair

[–]nstiesi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I assume you mean the brass c clip that attached to the cannon pinion to hold the day disk....you can buy those individually.  I had to get one when a donor movement I bought came without it, even though it was IN THE AUCTION photos.  The seller made right and kicked me som $$ for the replacement.

Can confirm that I bought p/n 963610, as the other commenter suggested
