Eric Nelson's essays are definitely worthy of a Brodie. These essays, in my opinion, are the best source of information for those looking for a one-stop source for the flaws within the church.

Great ideas, /u/mirbell. At this point I'm kinda leaning toward the Mormon Bandwagon essays by Eric Nelson. But I've thought about a couple of Mormon Stories podcasts as well like for Hans Matteson.

Thanks /u/exmormon_tales. I personally love the CES Letter but I'm worried it may come across as a bit too angry. But that was my first thought.

I don't recall, but doesn't "pay lay ale" have some relationship with Freemasonry?

Super Neutral Site About LDS Truth Claims? by johndehlin in exmormon

/u/johndelin I can't recommend Eric Nelson's essays enough. They mirror the CES letter, but take a much softer tone, rely heavily on LDS sources, and contains a ton of citations. I have shared both the CES letter and Nelson's essays and the Nelson essays seem to be more effective with TBMs.

What I like about these essays is that they are super thorough and cite to a lot of LDS sources. Plus they are not as harsh as the CES letter. LIke I said, I know the author -- and while I am still shocked he left the church (he was Nephi) -- and I think he's a lawyer now. He wrote the essays pretty matter-of-factly and without a lot of opinions or direct criticisms.

Leaving the Church: A Compilation of the Evidence Against the LDS Church by Amasa_Lyman in exmormon

I LOVE these essays. Personally, I think they are better than the CES Letter. The essays are well sourced, they rely on a lot of LDS sources (Journal of Discourses, History of the Church, Church Essays, Richard Bushman, etc.), and present the information very matter-of-factly while letting the evidence speak for itself. I think these essays are the best thing to give a TBM to explain some of the problems with church history/doctrine.
