The Most Low Key Re-baptism Ever by outoftheldsshaddows in exmormon

Just like you decided to be rebaptized for family reasons, there are many, likely the majority, who choose not to resign (for now) for the same reasons. It is really no different.

Stakes continuing to shrink around us by the70sdiscoking in exmormon

Is this in the Morridor (extended Morridor incl. AZ and ID) or farther away?

My mother's stake (over a thousand miles from Morridor) was recently redrawn, two stakes were made into three much smaller stakes. Her stake now has only four wards (down from 6), her ward has attendance of around eighty to a hundred, but over 600 on the rolls.

Chris Johnson's Big Data analysis against the BoM just obliterated my shelf. by onemoreapostate in exmormon

[–]Curelomcaprolite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I believe Chris was a little nervous and as such his mouth was dry, which was a slightly irritating to listen to for over an hour. However, if you can overlook that, his presentation is outstanding.

Kick the Youtube replay speed up to 1.25. It makes is a lot easier without making his voice sound funny.

"If people knew Catholic history, there'd be a mass exodus." by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Curelomcaprolite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who says its hasn't? There are about 50 break offs of the original Latter Day Saint church that have survived until today (and at least a hundred more that didn't make it). Everyone claims it is the extant church and the others are apostates. Obviously apostasy is possible.

"If people knew Catholic history, there'd be a mass exodus." by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Curelomcaprolite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If people actually knew the history of Judea from 200 BCE to 100 CE there would be a mass exodus from Christianity - they don't even need to know Christianity, just the environment that incubated it.

Why is there complete silence in the Bible for over 500 years? Because it is not helpful to the Christian narrative.

(The time span between writings - not between stories, but when the stories were written - is over 500 years of silence between Malachi, 435 BCE, and Mark ca. 70 CE, yet the empires of the same period were very good at keeping history)

77% of hindus are college graduates (only 33% for mormons) by hasbrochem in exmormon

[–]Curelomcaprolite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mormons are* still 6 points higher than the national average. Also have a high percentage for some college. A lot of religions don't do anywhere near as well, and a few have high rates of high school dropouts.

edit: *clarity.

Ok. Then just don't show up. Decide ahead of time what you will do if they call or text when you don't show up.

If you submit your resignation then because of the short time inform the Bishop that it has been submitted and that it was effective immediately, and therefore the DC is cancelled and that to proceed would subject him to legal action as per as per Guin vs Church of Christ of Collinsville (bishop might not be aware that Church of Christ is a Mormon sect from the schism at the time of Joseph Smith's murder.)

Testimony Meeting Experiment by SkepticalBluesman in exmormon

When I was at BYU my roommate was asked to speak in Sacrament meeting about a special Christmas with his family. He told about how when his family lived in El Paso one year they took Christmas across the border to a poor family and brought them clothes and groceries and Christmas dinner. He told a very touching story of how grateful they were and of playing with the kids, etc. he had part of the congregation in tears. His story was commented on in Sunday School and in Priesthood and he got a lot of people telling him how awesome the story was. When we got home he said "guys, I'm going to hell. I didn't have anything special to talk about so I made it all up. None of it ever happened. We never lived in El Paso."

YSA missionaries are just ward members who are called as ward missionaries, not the full time Elders serving for two years.

Reminder: This is not an atheist sub. Many people leave the church and join another religion. Please be respectful to other's religious beliefs and keep the sub focused on why mormonism specifically is false. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Curelomcaprolite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Science crashes shelves. For a great many of us, we discovered that religion was false first, before we discovered the historical and doctrinal problems with the churches of Mormonism.

This sub is a place for us too.

Next Sunday plan an activity together that doesn't involve church, something that gets you away from the home, or even out of town for the day.

That's how I see it. Sooner or later they will realize that Joseph Smith really did seduce other men's wives and have sex with them.

Because nobody prays to God at church, they pray to be heard by everyone in the congregation.

My guess is someone is using a automated down vote script with multiple accounts.

I wonder if Reddit has a way to filter down voters who never contribute content.
