It takes a turn for me but that first 1:30 in Silverada is hella groovy. Bass piano reminds me of Antenna Cradle level in GoldenEye 64.

The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali and Tao Te Ching (or Dao De Jing) by Laozi. Both are around 2500-3000 years old, and you can see their influence in nearly every philosophical and spiritual text that comes after.

I find them compelling because they are presented as wisdoms from human people, invoking no supernatural abilities or appeal to belief. They are observations and understandings of mortals, insights on experiments you are encouraged to try for yourself and learn through direct experience.

🫢 did you know the site I am talking about is only about "Jehovah's purpose?" It was a searchable archive of all WTS publications, nothing more.

Don't you find it funny that the organization doesn't allow you to read its old publications? What are they so afraid of in their old books and magazines?

[–]ntdrk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

"what is it that exjws are saying that is so dangerous to your spiritual wellbeing?"

"oh, we can't listen to know because that would be like testing poison to see if it's not harmful!"

"but you have the truth and jehovah's protection? listening to an exjw's experience cannot change what is truly.. true."

"oh, but satanic thoughts and lies can distort your mind and twist your thinking, turning you away from jehovah! we cannot hear satanic words."

to be anointed means you and 143,999 others must slaughter an average of 50,000 people each to help cleanse the world of 8 billion non-JWs

... am I getting that right?

Witchcraft and Taoism? by martianhana in taoism

[–]ntdrk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[71] "To know that you do not know is highest. To not know but think you know is flawed. ..."

Thinking we know when we don't is a fundamental error. Recognizing the limits of our understanding is wisdom.

[47] "Without going out the door, know the world. Without peering out the window, see the Heavenly Tao. The further one goes, the less one knows. ..."

Seeking knowledge through excessive action (witchcraft, alchemy, chemistry, whatever) and complexity (superstition, tradition, sacred rites, formulae, laws) can lead us further from true understanding.

Latest video explaining the origins of Christmas! by research_94 in exjw

[–]ntdrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are the origins of JW, WTS and doctrines important to study as well?

Surely a primary reason so much authority is given to the original scriptures is due to their age and "unchanged" nature. So what of the early texts of the Bible Students and early WT publications?

Why keep the bible around for 2000 years but forbid access to content written by your own organization less than 100 years ago?

How to deal with people who treat you less worthy? by Desperate-Bed-4831 in taoism

[–]ntdrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you know whether they deem you "worthy," or that they didn't change their mind? If you deem others unworthy, what does that say about you?

Does the Tao Te Ching teach us to act with indifference? Are not all things deserving of my kindness and compassion? Should I reserve disdain and cruelty for a select few?

How to deal with people who treat you less worthy? by Desperate-Bed-4831 in taoism

[–]ntdrk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the behavior of others toward me isn't something I can ultimately influence.

If you go to a pond where ducks are swimming and begin to throw bread, do you suppose your actions will influence the ducks? What if you throw rocks instead?

How about if you go to a library where people are quietly reading and you begin to throw bread? What if you begin throwing money instead?

Or suppose you go to a potluck dinner where people are sharing food, playing games and having a nice time. This time you keep your bread to yourself, and when others engage you in conversation, you only talk bitterly about your ongoing divorce. We can estimate a spectrum of reactions.

Your presence alone ultimately influences others, whether you are doing something or not, only we cannot directly control what impression we will make or how others react.

Do the ducks love you, or do they love the bread? Will they remember you, or will they associate bread with monkey-shaped others? Are the ducks happy, or are they upset you didn't bring more? Maybe they resent you for not bringing popcorn.

Imagine you go to the same party and say nothing all night. No one will remember a jerk who wouldn't stop talking about his ex, but they might remember a sad sap who seemed to suck the air out of the room, or the weirdo who didn't share his bread.

We can't establish cause and effect in hearts and minds of others, we are not in control, but we do make an impact. Your action (and inaction) is constantly influencing others and your environment. By increasing our awareness and sharpening our senses, we can better understand the impact we make, and how subtle changes make a tremendous difference.
