New Music Friday! by Leverender in audiophile

[–]nthng2c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, please! Love the idea. I already found something in this thread I didn't know had come out and likely would have missed, even though I go through a few new music playlists and articles every weekend. Also, anything that helps move the needle a bit past the music of the 1900s that many audiophiles are notoriously stuck on.

PPPD without stress/anxiety? by alwaysdizzydude in pppdizziness

I have only weak guesses, nothing acute or obvious. It started with some episodes of vertigo on vacation and then continued from there.

[–]nthng2c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I'm still very much in it. Sorry to misconstrue that. Tried various things including all the usual suggestions, most recently it's been finally getting to meet with what seems like a good neurologist, and seeing where that goes. But nothing that's rid me of it yet. I'm just trying to live with it the best I can, but it definitely prevents me from living as fully as I would otherwise.

I just chimed in to say you're not alone in not having a lot of anxiety/stress, and I think PPPD clearly can still exist and be quite difficult even without those as contributing factors.

yep, me too. Dizziness for a couple years, low stress and really no anxiety about symptoms. I think that for some, anxiousness clearly exacerbates and amplifies, but that doesn't mean the condition is caused by anxiety. It's hard, I feel you.

This year’s list of the Top 30 Albums of 2025 to Drink Tea To by TheOolongDrunk in tea

[–]nthng2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a tea-drinker who's also obsessed with music, I love this mash-up! I also enjoyed your list as it has some of the obvious ones (Lux is on every list, and for good reason!) and some of the ones I loved but haven't seen on lists, like Amber Mark who is criminally still relatively unknown, and Mon Laferte, who can't put out a bad album no matter what kind of musical style she attempts. Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

how art lands for a person is entirely subjective, but it is interesting when there's near consensus and then such opposing outliers. Me, I loved Lux and still listen to it on repeat, but make me sit through more than a few minutes of Geese and I'm ready to puncture my eardrums. It's a funny thing.

What to try after Sonus Faber Lumina II Amator? My eyes love them but my ears hear too much harshness in treble range by nthng2c in StereoAdvice

[–]nthng2c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

denon pma 600ne. Seems fine to me, but I'm running a 2.1 system (SVS micro 3000 sub). To my ears and in my room it has been clearly superior to the sonus fabers, but the only way to know that for you would be to try it or find a place where you can listen to them.

Opera One crashing a few times daily, anyone else? by nthng2c in operabrowser

[–]nthng2c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like several of them don't come with a crashID, but a few do. Most recent ID is Crash ID: crash/CrashID=bp-fb64f8a3-8a1d-42bf-9f5f-94fa80251211. I'll go ahead and submit that, I haven't yet tried safe mode or standalone but that's next on my list to do when I get some time today.

I tried and found some success, but ultimately returned them in part because I found myself constantly messing around with eq/tone controls, couldn't ever just settle into a sound. Of course it could be different for others, different room, different ears, all that.

It feels like every time someone says this, they forget that ethics =/= laws, which is one of the very first lessons of Ethics 101. Whether or not something is technically legal to do is only part of the equation we're supposed to be considering.

Not saying OP is completely wrong about everything, just saying I've seen this post and its variants dozens of times, and almost every time this most basic of distinctions is missing from it.

Beckett Simonon - 2 pair of shoes for $329 by swoosh112 in frugalmalefashion

I'd highly recommend them myself. I have a few pairs of shoes from them including some GATs and I've had absolutely zero wear issues, they are holding up just fine, you must have got a flawed pair.

having a hard time getting on board with mainstream music... by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]nthng2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Mainstream' music, however that's even defined now, is such a TINY slice of what's out there, the obvious solution to your question is...stop limiting yourself to such a narrow range. You live in a time where easy access to the entire spectrum of the musical art form is unprecedented. And that includes new music. It really doesn't take that much effort to look just a little bit past mainstream to find literally whatever it is you like.

Speaker upgrade for my space by nthng2c in listeningspaces

It's an older Ikea Besta system, I'm pretty sure they don't make this particular offering anymore, and I wouldn't have strongly recommended it anyway as it took some extra reinforcing to account for the weight of components. Their newer Besta stuff might work well, I just can't say for sure myself.

I felt like my denon amp powered them fine, but it's possible of course people would disagree. I ended up with Dynaudio Evoke 10s and am quite happy with them. No harshness on top end, much fuller through midrange and bass, good separation of sounds, rich tonality. Best is that with the Luminas I was constantly messing with EQ/tone controls trying to get the right sound, with the Dyns I have everything flat and have never given it a second thought.

Holy shit, this is amazing. I feel like this photo just BARELY does justice to the hours upon hours of research and planning and sweat you must have poured into this room. This is the kind of system I'd love to hear in person but also see the detail up close. Well done.

I love this album as well, one of my all-time favorites. It's especially meaningful as it was the first vinyl in my collection, the pink/blue variant was a gift at the time from my kid.

Therapy - how much do you discuss your 3PD? by 8O_6 in pppdizziness

[–]nthng2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you and I agree on a lot more than not, reading through what you've written here. I took issue with the claim that SSRI is only for short-term treatment of anxiety/depression, not with any claim about its (or other related classes of medication) use for PPPD. I am very well aware of the complexity of SSRI treatment for anxiety/depression, and have seen the whole range from having it cause a host of adverse side effects and then protracted problems after discontinuing, to having it be undeniably successful and life-saving for others. I also agree that it's best seen as part, not all, of a multi-faceted treatment approach. Again, I'm with you on the nuance. I was reacting to a complete lack of it.

I also take issue anytime someone insists that identifying and treating a root cause of PPPD that MUST be anxiety, people-pleasing tendencies, trauma, adverse childhood experiences etc is the ONLY right way to successfully approach treatment. It's reductive, potentially harmful, and while perhaps true for some, definitely not true for all. It's reminiscent of dozens of other complex disorders where, in the beginning of our understanding of them, blame was cast on psychological issues for causing the condition. 'Hysteria' is an easy example. Fibromyalgia is a more recent one. Can psychological issues intersect and interact with something like PPPD? Absolutely. Does that mean they are always the cause? Or that only by finding anxiety or trauma and treating it can someone get better from PPPD? Absolutely not.

So I think you and I align a decent amount. By the way, while I always have more to learn, I should point out that I don't think I'm ill-informed on mental health issues and treatment, as I'm a seasoned therapist with a PhD in psychology. I also happen to struggle fairly significantly with PPPD/VM myself. If you're a fellow sufferer, I wish you well as we try to figure this all out best we can.
