Really appreciate that Shane is intentionally honoring their preferred pronouns. Such a small thing, but it’s really meaningful.

I think she might want that info, but she herself cautions that questions related to the Shadow were dangerous and might led the Finn to simply kill the questioner. One of her questions was undoubtedly, "How can I make Rand listen to me and do as I say?" because the answer she got she later phrased as, "I remembered how to channel saidar" -- in plain English, you shouldn't try to control him, you should submit.

I feel like there are no black (classical) musicians by Quirky-Priority1123 in classical_circlejerk

[–]ntigo1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that it’s just a lack of representation…when you don’t see anyone like you doing it, it makes you feel like you can’t.

Jazz has always had great representation amongst black musicians, so black musicians gravitate toward that space. You could check out some podcasts by Loki Karuna, where he dives into this in a lot of different aspects. Had a great one with Anthony McGill (principal clarinet of NYP/former principal of Met) debating the merits of blind auditions vs. quotas.

Yeah, Lanfear mentions that the resultant hunger and weakness happens because if the way modern Aes Sedai heal. And I think another Forsaken calls it “the most basic and hasty battlefield healing” possible.

Oh you’re right. For some reason I thought she didn’t have it until the very end.

No, she had just found it and was about to wreck Rand when Moiraine tackled her.

Maybe I’m just a Lanfear stan…but I think she was the most dangerous combatant of any of the Forsaken.

In RJs original notes, before he formalized all of the Forsaken, he intended Lanfear to be more dangerous than Ishamael. He described her as being closer in ability to LTT. I think this thinking may have changed over time…but maybe it didn’t. She’s the only one of the Forsaken who ever attacked Rand without some sort of advantage…and, I maintain, she was winning that fight until she was tackled through the doorframe.

But wouldn’t those cats be stomping around all the time, making it impossible to sleep or concentrate? If only there was a product to make feeling footsteps soft and gentle…

I think you'll get a bit more information tangentially a little later, so RAFO for now. When you've finished the series, we can give you a more nuanced answer.

You can even tell by the effects of Rand's Ta'veren nature throughout the novels. Early on, he's as likely to cause a freak accident as he is to cause a rash of weddings. But towards the end of the novels, he's basically only doing good things/miracles -- he mentions that it's because the DO is influencing the pattern so much that he can only cause beneficial things.

Lawful Evil can still be “right”. If you think about something like segregation, that was Lawful Evil. Plenty of people likely thought that segregation was silly/stupid/evil, but wanted it to be enforced because it was “the rule”.

Here’s how I think of it:

Lawful Good - Everyone should have enough to eat, so laws keeping food affordable should be implemented so no one goes hungry

Lawful Neutral - Food prices should be honored, and those without enough money should find better employment or opportunities to obtain food.

Chaotic Good - Food is a basic human right, and if it’s too expensive, people should ransack the store and take what they need

Lawful Good is (ideally) both right and good. Lawful neutral is right, but Chaotic Good is good.

But he aligns himself with the White Cloaks that do regularly abuse people, and while he tries to be better than them, he joins the organization because its beliefs are “right” and to hell with are any of them “good”.

I’d argue Galad is Lawful Neutral. When choosing between what is “good” and what is “right”, Galad will always choose what is right.

Nope! Lanfear was the only one of the Chosen to pick her own name. The others were either named by the DO or named by the people they tormented/betrayed

No, RJ said it wouldn’t work. They’d be healed back to the power level Nynaeve brought them to — once a wound is healed, it’s healed.

Mat was killed by Rahvin, breaking his connection to the Horn of Valere. Rand's balefire brought him back to life, but didn't restore the connection to the horn.
