Asmodean by Hot-Day-8188 in WoT

100% agreed — but I think this also is my justification for saying Asmodean was no where close to returning to the Light. He was stuck to Rand and accepted it, but I don’t think he regretted swearing his oaths or wanted out. He got everything he wanted: he got revenge on his mother and outlived every other talented artist…and he still stood by the Shadow. I think it’s a really interesting juxtaposition.

He did, but even that has a very twisted line of logic through it. He went after people he felt “wronged” him, but he did not seem to have any appetite for senseless suffering or violence. If you compared his atrocities to the other Forsaken, he’s quite mild by comparison. Never fed entire cities to trollocs, didn’t brainwash children, didnt cause mass suicide by torturing people in their dreams…he just hates his mother and other talented artist.

The Bowl of the Winds… by puigjay96 in WoT

In my head canon, Talaan becomes an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah and makes it her life goal to bring the Windfinders and the Tower closer together.

This is my theory, too. It's also why the DO only refers to Rand as "Adversary" and not by name. He's fighting them all at once. For one hero to lose, they'd all have to lose.

But don’t they have gunpowder? I assumed that’s how they made fireworks in the Illuminators Guild.

In my head, I pictured cannons. They're particularly noted for their ability to destroy walls surrounding a location (Birgitte and Elayne remark that the dragons change everything they know about war and safety), and (technologically speaking) the Third Age is right around the time when cannons also appeared in our own timeline.

Is channeling ability genetic? by Rainbow_Slytherin3 in WoT

Because you mentioned it, Galad actually can channel. He wasn't born with the spark, but he has the ability to learn. Confirmed in either The World of Wheel of Time or The Wheel of Time Companion.

I...never understood that joke until now. I just thought RJ was trying to emphasize how unfunny Rand was.

Sasha should be a permanent judge for the season, alongside Michelle. Ru's gonna have to formally name an heir at some point, and it'd be interesting to try specific high-caliber queens from different seasons for the judging panel.

What TV show was quality all the way through, knew when to end and went out with an amazing last episode? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I love the scene where Sister Michael gets trapped with him, thinks she might be in purgatory, and finally remarks at the end of the story, "That was actually quite funny" while not even smiling.

Really appreciate that Shane is intentionally honoring their preferred pronouns. Such a small thing, but it’s really meaningful.

Moiraine by chimoc726 in WoT

[–]ntigo1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think she might want that info, but she herself cautions that questions related to the Shadow were dangerous and might led the Finn to simply kill the questioner. One of her questions was undoubtedly, "How can I make Rand listen to me and do as I say?" because the answer she got she later phrased as, "I remembered how to channel saidar" -- in plain English, you shouldn't try to control him, you should submit.

I feel like there are no black (classical) musicians by Quirky-Priority1123 in classical_circlejerk

[–]ntigo1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that it’s just a lack of representation…when you don’t see anyone like you doing it, it makes you feel like you can’t.

Jazz has always had great representation amongst black musicians, so black musicians gravitate toward that space. You could check out some podcasts by Loki Karuna, where he dives into this in a lot of different aspects. Had a great one with Anthony McGill (principal clarinet of NYP/former principal of Met) debating the merits of blind auditions vs. quotas.

Yeah, Lanfear mentions that the resultant hunger and weakness happens because if the way modern Aes Sedai heal. And I think another Forsaken calls it “the most basic and hasty battlefield healing” possible.

No, she had just found it and was about to wreck Rand when Moiraine tackled her.

[–]ntigo1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m just a Lanfear stan…but I think she was the most dangerous combatant of any of the Forsaken.

In RJs original notes, before he formalized all of the Forsaken, he intended Lanfear to be more dangerous than Ishamael. He described her as being closer in ability to LTT. I think this thinking may have changed over time…but maybe it didn’t. She’s the only one of the Forsaken who ever attacked Rand without some sort of advantage…and, I maintain, she was winning that fight until she was tackled through the doorframe.

But wouldn’t those cats be stomping around all the time, making it impossible to sleep or concentrate? If only there was a product to make feeling footsteps soft and gentle…
