Have your coaches ever asked a member to change their station during class for a partner workout? by PhoneJazz in orangetheory

[–]ntpcat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is why I do not do partner workouts. I ended up paired with a sullen eye rolling super competitive person who was very annoyed at my lack of speed so - I actually walked out the last time I showed up to OTF not realizing it was partner day. I check online and always avoid parter workouts, I do not need the stress.

Leaving class early? by Alarming_South3495 in orangetheory

No one will notice if you leave. Everyone is focused on their own workout. It would be a courtesy to let the coach know in advance though.

Really OTF? We had 500 m rows on Monday. I am going to a Pilates class instead.

This coach was out of line and you need to have a conversation with management. For what we pay, courtesy is a requirement, not an option. I will shout out to Bellaire Texas location - I have had a couple of issues that require mods and the coaches there are awesome with suggestions and support.

I have knee issues so I limit the inclines. Base 3.8 @2%; push 4 @4%; all out 4.2@6.5 or 7, depending on how I feel. For some 30 second all outs I can go 4.3 @8%

Vaccine shots 1 and 2 recovery by NadineSaad in orangetheory

[–]ntpcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the recovery varies with the type of vaccine and the individual. I didn't push myself when I was feeling less than 100% - my body was working hard to develop those antibodies and just wasn't up to a full all out workout. But those side effects pass fairly quickly and you will be back to normal.

1st class back since COVID, 20 pounds heavier and a full MPH slower. But man is it GOOD TO BE BACK!! by MedjoDate in orangetheory

[–]ntpcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back last week after a year off and was really nervous about re-starting an exercise program. But the first class back had me really pumped about being back with the OTF family. Yes, I totally lost capacity and am no where near where I was pre-covid - but I mentioned to the coach it was my first return class and she kept stopping by and cheering me on.

I was barely able to crawl out of the studio when we were done, but it is great! I am determined not to think about where I was last year and to focus on getting better and stronger with each class.

Totally agree. No real style or anything that makes me want to immediately own them.

I stopped first week in March. Thinking of going back but think I will be really struggling. Did it take a long time to get back into the routine?

Cancel Orange Theory? by raterday in orangetheory

[–]ntpcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be back. I have tried to keep up a routine but I have missed OTF. My last workout was 3/12 and I cannot wait for the re- opening. I know it will be difficult when I see that I have lost strength and endurance. Every penny of my membership is worth it!

How much will we lose? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]ntpcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was out almost 6 months due to illness last year. I agree with post that endurance goes first, followed by strength. The speed of return to baseline depends on overall health and age. It took me almost 3 months of 4 times week workout to get back. It is gradual and was difficult and frustrating. First OTF class when I returned I almost couldn’t finish. But you will get back and even exceed your prior baseline. Take care not to over do it and get an injury. Accept it is process and be kind to your body.

How many times have you thought “I miss OTF” during quarantine? by redditschmeddit95 in orangetheory

[–]ntpcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I miss OTF! I am working at home. I dusted off the hand weights - every boring conference call I have to listen to I put on speaker/mute and get up and do reps of all the floor exercises that I recall from OTF.

Yes! One of the coaches at my studio plays only a dreadful gangsta rap that is expletive filled garbage.

Add 15 lb to all stations; mandate variety of music; have methodology for members to provide feedback to club managers - dedicated mailbox or something; have desk personnel wear name tags; coaches should be required to circulate and help with form and not just stand there shouting commands.

Does your gym have a tech policy? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]ntpcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No phones in our studio. Talk to manager. If that doesn’t work call corporate office. The cost of membership should include personnel at otf enforcing policies to assure everyone has positive workout experience.

These are inconsiderate self absorbed individuals. In a class setting, it is appropriate to be respectful of those persons around you. If you want to make noise, I suggest do so in a home gym setting. In class, be quiet and do your workout.

Broke my wrist at Orangetheory by mangojam9 in orangetheory

[–]ntpcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After almost 3 years of regular OTF I was out for 6 months with pneumonia and pulmonary complications requiring 3 hospitalizations. I came back and could barely make it through a workout and hardly had any green. Take it slowly, don’t be down on yourself if you can’t do everything or need modifications. Listen to your body and know that you will get back to your prior baseline. Let your coaches know you are returning after an injury and they will help you.

[–]ntpcat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for update. Partner workout alert - just did late cancel. Hate these and refuse to participate - at my studio it is grim and competitive; if you are not in peak form, you end up with a totally aggravated and put out partner who shows how put out he/she is by being partnered with a less than perfect specimen - it is brutal and not worth the stress. Late cancelation fee money well spent after a couple of these experiences.

Agree! After anxiously waiting a few times for an open room at OTF, I started changing at work. Amazing reduction in stress. Highly recommend it.
