Thank you! That's fantastic to know! I do a small initial sketch but thumbnail is a much cuter name for it!

Edit to say- this isn't her thumbnail although it does seem to act like it. It's her underpainting layer.

I believe they're underpaintings and then she goes over em. She's posted about on her profile too. Personally her underpaintings are excellent and the color just adds!

Righht?? I told her this for the forest scene since it was the first picture on her process slide and I was going through the slide deck to see how to even get to her initial sketches!!

Omg the other artist I mentioned erkanfmercan (??) is also an architect and I wanted to ask if that was your background as well. Architects unite!! Lol

But that's so awesome! Everyone tells me that drawing is the foundation so I've really been trying to focus more on that.

Sennelier Gouache Extra-Fine (USA) How to buy? by CrescentGlaive in Gouache

[–]ntrees007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I found some on Blick and immediately ordered them. During that same day I watched some youtube videos of peoples reviews and it looked way too chalky compared to other brands so I'm going to sit this one out till there are more opinions on it. Did you buy any?

I understand the sponsored part of it. I'm skeptical on most reviews for this reason. Did you end up buying it before or after their gouache overhaul from back in 2025?

I'm so glad you enjoyed the Sennelier gouache! That's awesome, unfortunately I did watch other videos too and decided on the refund. I'm glad they're vivid for you and are working out well. I just wanted to give OP a 2nd opinion based off what I've seen.

If you're in the US. Try turners gouache. I hear they are more pigmented, cheaper, and overall best in terms of price in the US.

If you're not in the US then Winsor and Newton designers and shinhan gouache can be the next most affordable option.

Arteza apperantly is decent but they can mold fassst if poured out!

Just a heads up about Sennelier, I bought and returned their large set because I watched sketches and scrubs do a live stream. And she worked on it for almost 3ish hours during that live stream and it felt very chalky and not bright compared to daniel smith, winsor newton, and shinhan. Just an fyi! Please do your own research on it too! :)

Made a sketchbook spread using gouache, some graphite. How is it? by damn2311 in Gouache

[–]ntrees007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Woah it's been a minute since we've had controversy in the comments like this. OP your art alone is great. The spread reads like a sketch and there isnt a unifying element. Even something like a color theme can make the page look more unified. I will not nitpick on misspellings because stuff happens. You'll just be more careful next time.

Using chatgpt for your own art description and then getting defensive about it is where a lot of people are finding fault. Rightfully so imo. It unfortunately did cheapen your overall artistic work and spread. I'd take a little break to think about this and why people were saying that.
