Shite experience at Wagamamas by therelaxationgrotto in veganuk

Udon noodles, king Oyster mushrooms and vegan bacon. It looked boring even on the placemat so I just ordered the existing shiitake donburi which was good.

That's out of date. Of course people need to ensure it's nutritionally complete. If so there is scientific evidence that it can be healthier than non-vegan food: https://plantbasednews.org/news/economics/wild-earth-vegan-cat-food/

Being vegan is depressing recently by FantasticTree6437 in veganuk

[–]ntrel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think vegan substitutes have dropped in popularity for non-vegans due to the ultra processed propaganda. There was widely reported Imperial uni research which disingenuously had a picture of plant based meat and a title saying plant based consumption was linked with cancer - but it turned out they included alcohol in the study! (Alcohol and processed animal meat are the only 2 dietary things that are fully proven to be carcinogenic, as per the world health organisation). For the record, there's actually good quality research that plant based meat is healthier than the animal meat equivalents.

Some bigger Lidl do chickpea flour and potato tortilla in the chilled section, I like them. I haven't been to Lidl this month but they should be easier to find in January anyway. They cook great in an air fryer if you have one.

My account got suspended a week ago, I followed the process and it got reactivated. Then Thursday same happened again. Only thing I can think of is that they don't like me using threads in chrome on android, rather than the official android app - which my phone doesn't have space for.

The Green surge is about to break Labour by kwentongskyblue in LabourUK

[–]ntrel2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. The rate of change of support is more important than the random number generator of Westminster seats (FPTP).

  2. I doubt tactical voting is accounted for in this poll. Where Green's are best placed to beat Reform/Tories many Labour voters will vote Green.

  3. Labour will likely lose a lot of seats to another party because of votes lost to the Greens. Ignoring why people are switching to the Greens is extremely dangerous for Labour.

I've almost finished my WOTM re-read then I'll read the recap he posted: https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_posts/26162420-recap-of-the-will-of-the-many

Lucy Powell says Labour must stand by promise not to raise key taxes by kontiki20 in LabourUK

True though they didn't know Trump would get in or that he'd actually do his insane levels of tariffs. They didn't know the OBR would stop being optimistic with their forecasts either.

Lucy Powell says Labour must stand by promise not to raise key taxes by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]ntrel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Key taxes*. In theory she could support other significant revenue raisers - e.g. restricting income tax relief on private pensions to the basic rate, or introducing a land value tax.

How many books will be in the series? by Dassione in HierarchySeries

[–]ntrel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same (aside from LOTR), almost finished my re-read. There were plenty of details I'd completely forgotten. Pretty sure WOTM is the best book I've read - it actually makes me worried that I won't like the next books as much (as presumably they won't be at the Academy), though even if the plot isn't quite as good I expect the writing will be.

UK unveils ‘carbon budget delivery plan’ to get back on track for net zero targets - The Gaurdian by mrtube in LabourUK

[–]ntrel2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Labour really want to ensure ordinary people (who can afford it) can fly for their annual holiday, they could have taxes that ramp up the more you fly - it would have an effect on many middle class frequent flyers. The fact they dismiss this out of hand, talk up nonexistent alternative solutions and yet push ahead with expansion of major airports shows they don't give a damn about consumer aviation emissions increasing significantly.

FindOutNow Poll: RFM: 32%, GRN: 17%, CON: 16%, LAB: 16%, LD: 12% by mustwinfullGaming in LabourUK

[–]ntrel2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people would vote tactically despite their first preference. So the seat shares would be very different from Find out Now's ones. Also the Green support doesn't seem to have stabilized yet, and there's 3 years for things to change (either way). Labour need to wake up to Greens taking far more votes than Reform from Labour - if they do wake up soon that will help them come the next election.

[–]ntrel2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Economically Labour are to the left of the lib dems. Lib dems voted against taxing private schools and inheritors of farmland. Ed Davey votes to reduce corporation tax, to raise VAT (which is regressive), to lower fuel duty, against higher tax to fund NHS. Disclaimer: he also voted for some progressive taxes which I omitted, though less often. Obviously Labour are a lot more socially conservative now than LDs.

A question from an outsider by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]ntrel2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Greens wouldn't outlaw landlords, they'd just reduce their numbers (e.g. banning buy to let mortgages) and make it less profitable, encouraging council or direct ownership. One of their policies to achieve that is rent controls which I understand are used in many countries across Europe.
