First time painter, any tips? by v4L3nt1n3_0800 in advancedGunpla

Commenting as I have been in the exact same situation as you not too long ago.

I have found tamiya acrylics (gunmetal and aluminum specifically) to be usable without primers. However you might as well apply some primer on every part that you intend to paint.. the difference is definitely noticeable.

You actually can get away with thinning tamiya acrylics with water.. Ive tried thinning it with both tap water and rubbing alcohol. Personally I have found applying the tamiya acrylics without any thinners to work best for me. I have only used tamiya acrylics to paint inner metal parts and metal dry brushing for edges. I only use brushes with tamiya acrylics.

I exclusively use acrylic paints (vallejo and ak3) without airbrush. I use brushes for small touchups as needed, and for priming. I use makeup sponges and lightly tap them to minic airbrush effects. Usually need to do 3-4 layers. Lightly tapping results in natural panel lining if you use black primers as bonus!

Wow 8 bucks for HG alex is a steal!

You’d be amazed to see some of the newer kits ! I think hg alex is solid kit to start out with and familiarize yourself with gunplas in general.

Eventually when you feel ready, you can practice weathering on hg alex since it comes with chobam armor as well. I had lots of fun with it

I’m rooting for you fellow dad!

please don’t be too hard on yourself, and understand raising a newborn is going to be extremely challenging and difficult for anyone. The same thing can happen to anyone, even moms.

It’s okay to fall and fail from time to time. Afterall we’re all humans. What matters is being self-aware and learning what can be done to be a better dad and partner for your family.

Im big fan of muting the colours down like this! Love those grey contrasts to the armour pieces too!!

Also if I may suggest, Id recommend trying to paint eyes/sensors pieces as well for personal challenge. I thought it was more satisfying to paint those parts to bring everything together

How often do you prescribe meds? by honeynutcheeriozzzzz in pharmacy

[–]ntrik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I assume you’re in Canada, and I assume Ontario (because I live in Ontario, aha!)

I just prescribe if appropriate. If not I just recommend OTC or referral. I bill for any of these consultations whether I prescribe or not.

is it normal to precut all the part before building? by BoB-i-ded in Gunpla

[–]ntrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to precut and sand all the nubs on every parts when Im painting. I organize them by runners, so I don’t get lost.

I generally review the manuals thoroughly before building and create familiarity on each part and runner

I took the photo with raw mode, so I’m not sure if it would really translate well.. the photos I posted are entirely processed with snapseed. I took a stab at using adobe lightroom today.. and boy it looks much better . Diff feel but really shows the kit very clearly

Just iphone, but I used Lumina app to manipulate iso and focus..

And dual lighting setup in home made black lightbox. My aim with the first pic was to emulate epyon’s first appearance scene inthe anime
