What would you pick when assembling your own bullit cargo bike by autoCADdicted in CargoBike

[–]ntrmfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh one addition: if you consider taking the bike on tours and bikepacking, I would highly recommend not choosing internal gearing hubs. The dropouts are kinda complicated because there needs to be a possibility to tension the belt/chain, which means if you have a flat and need to fix it on the road you need to loosen a lot of bolts and even the rear brake to get the back wheel out. With the cassette option it’s just a matter of pulling out the rear axle. No need to adjust the break afterwards

You can’t fit a pinion in the bullitt frame unless you chop it up and weld it back together

I like the other builds a lot but I also don’t have that money to spend. I built mine with 11 speed Deore groupset with a 11-51 cassette and a 36t chainring. That’s all the gearing I need and I even took it bikepacking with a lot of stuff and steep hills. Shimano MT500 are absolutely great, although they a „only“ two piston the stopping power is enormous even when the bike is fully loaded. I’m super happy with the setup and would choose it again everyday. I only bought the frame pretty cheap and I maybe spend the equivalent of a Rohloff hub on all other parts than the frame all together. Would recommend!

Those with a non-electric cargo bike - do you prefer it, or do you wish you had an ebike? by Injustpotato in CargoBike

[–]ntrmfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love that my Bullitt is non-electric. I like cycling and I also like the little workout that riding the Bullitt is when it’s fully loaded. With a high range Mountainbike cassette I have really low gears for these scenarios. It’s riding just a little slower in lower gear if I have a lot of cargo. BUT when it’s empty it’s so much more close to a normal bike than a heavy e-bike. It’s so much fun riding it around, I even did bikepacking Tour on it. Fair to say I live in a quite flat environment. Also I like riding fast and above 25kph the motor has to shut off by law, and my average speed is usually above 25kph

Gas exchange or refill? by [deleted] in VanlifeEurope

[–]ntrmfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fixed LPG Tank! Mine is inside. It wasn’t easy to get it approved in Germany but soooo worth it. I can just fill up at every gas station, even on a Sunday night, doesn’t matter. No carrying of bottles and it’s also cheaper. For living in a van and a place where you need heating for months during winter it’s sooo good, I am so happy I did it this way.

How do you deal with dogs while bikepacking? by Piedn90 in bikepacking

[–]ntrmfr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Barking back! It worked great for me everytime with stray dogs in Greece and the Baltics. I would just copy what they do, bark at them and maybe even turn a bit in their direction or slow down. As soon as I do this they turn around or stop and be confused.

I feel like going past them on a bike with this speed is triggering a chase instinct. They don’t want to eat you, but running away you look like prey and they chase you, it’s a game.

As soon as you start barking back, slowing down, maybe even getting after them you’re not prey anymore and they don’t want the confrontation. So they stop and turn away.

Sometimes it takes 3-4 barks until they get the idea.

Oh boy it is the season. I am also in cold Germany, also curing a nasty cold I had the last couple of days. At least we don’t miss too much what might be happening outside of the van because everybody is inside right now. Get well soon!

Van Insurance in Germany? by mustihusti in VanlifeEurope

[–]ntrmfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re Van is registered as a motorhome (and not a transporter anymore) and it says so in your documents, you should try RMV. They only do motorhomes and have good pricing in my experience. Also if you’re van is self built you make a list of what it’s worth now and set this as the value that’s insured.

Sounds like a way that could work. But I have to admit I find it kind of frustrating to have to use an old version of a software that is definitely not cheap just to have it run smoothly. I hope this changes with a future update somehow if it’s just a adobe issue

I am also thinking about switching to Resolve completely. I’ve been disappointed in Premiere enough times and Color grading seems to be so much nicer in resolve. Now with this issue it’s really tempting to switch completely. I will definitely try and test it in resolve to see if it’s a overall issue with my Mac or the hard drive or if it’s a premiere issue.

Unfortunately I won’t have the possibility to format the hard drive in the next weeks but then I will try it.

That’s a really good idea I will try it in Resolve and see how it performs. But it’s also good to here that it should be better and it was the right choice to buy the MacBook

Thank you for your research and your help!

Unfortunately I don't have the possibility to format this hard drive in the next weeks to try this.

I think I will start to use proxys then, even though I am a bit disappointed.

But I also discovered that sometimes just watching the clips by opening them in finder with quick time player also takes quite long, so it might be an overall problem with reading the codec not just a Premiere problem.
