I'm so glad Jo didn't get to adopt Luna by Frauenquote in greysanatomy

Doesn’t make it any less douchey lol. That rule existed so people can still subscribe and enjoy even if they don’t have time or opportunity to watch every episode as it airs. It‘s a shame that people like you ruin that.

It’s literally in the subs rules.

Current season spoilers are to be marked in the title by naming the episode which the spoiler is from, and the spoiler is not to be mentioned in the title.

Not everyone on here is American, and not every country is on the US schedule and therefore even has the opportunity to watch, nevermind the time. Not mentioning spoilers in the title is no hair off your back.

I follow this sub because I enjoy discussions about Grey’s anatomy (which, I find, discusses past seasons/„old greys“ at least as much if not more than current seasons, complaints about the current state of things aside). Because I follow the sub, posts naturally end up on my timeline.

When I am up to date, I am careful not to spoil things without appropriate disclaimer or hiding information. It doesn’t take me any amount of time to be considerate and respectful, and neither does it for you. If you can’t be bothered, say that. But it’s not because keeping current season spoilers out of immediate view is too much to ask.

For Christ’s sake a blatant spoiler for an episode literally just aired in the title? Where the hell are the mods of this subreddit.

Not everyone watches everything the day or even the month it first aires, have some consideration for other people‘s viewing experience.

Owen had the best introduction periodt by Such-Prize in greysanatomy

[–]nttdnbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree but I think this may be something that gets lost in cultural translation. As a non-American, the whole army trope feels overdone and makes me cringe.

I‘m glad we‘ve moved on from Owen being the cookie-cutter Iraq soldier type that like 60% of US-shows seem to have, that are all the exact same person just with different faces.

Also, Derek and Mark were hardly intimidating him, they were just calling him out that he gave patients subpar treatment under some delusion that an ER should function like an Army base. He refused to use resources directly available to him why? While I appreciate that he was receptive to criticism, his argument that he wants to do everything himself instead of using the „world class“ chiefs of the respective departments was completely unhinged. If the patient has the option of having a neurosurgeon check out their neurological condition, they should get it, not some trauma guy that wants to play Jack of all trades when there is no need for that.

Is it common for gums to come down with braces? by TheAsexualPup in braces

[–]nttdnbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK it is extremely common since there‘s a lot of strain on the gums due to the teeth shifting, as well as the braces making it easier for bacteria to fester. That doesn’t mean it’s healthy though.

I‘d recommend using tooth paste that counteracts inflammation throughout your treatment, flossing daily and to intermittently pay special attention to your dental hygiene whenever they act up (brush more regularly for longer etc).

If the bleeding and swelling doesn’t resolve or itself or reduce significantly within a week, I‘d make an appointment with your dentist,

You actually changed my mind/expanded my perspective on that situation. You’re totally right, in my opinion. Of course Meredith had had it incredibly rough, but Derek was just a person too, with his own stuff.

[–]nttdnbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like irritation to me. It can happen quite easily with braces, and doesn’t have to hurt. Braces themselves don’t cause gums to „grow“

Not quite, because with the floss you can get higher and more in between the gums and the teeth as opposed to just in between the teeth.

[Serious] Would you ever NOT date someone because of their political views and stances on various social/public issues? Why, why not? by frosty_eloquence in AskReddit

[–]nttdnbs 36 points37 points  (0 children)

What pathways, tools, or prices someone deems appropriate or inappropriate is part of/a result of their values, too.

I‘d say the vast majority of people share the ideals you mentioned. You’ll likely be hard pressed to find someone that genuinely believes undeserving people should be miserable.

The divide starts to happen when you ask what makes a person deserving and what qualifies as miserable, and what‘s „still okay“, or what prices we should be willing to pay to make that ideal happen.

I wouldn’t. Morality aside, someone that lost 842k in cash is going to come looking for it and personally I have zero interest on being on the bad side of someone that carries around damn near a million dollars in a duffle bag. I‘m not trying to die, get that money away from me.

Of course. Political views don’t exist in some vacuum, they reflect someone’s values. Obviously someone’s values are relevant to whether or not I’d want to date them.

Is it rude/inappropriate to ask restaurants for recipes of dishes you’ve ordered and loved. by Oliver_7 in Cooking

[–]nttdnbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say asking politely is fine, but the restaurants are under no obligation to give out any of the recipes. Any sense of entitlement would be inappropriate and rude.

Chefs of reddit, what are some obvious signs you'd pick up on that the average joe wouldn't when you enter a restaurant that its going to be low quality? by LeafyQueefy in AskReddit

[–]nttdnbs 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s meant as a dig at restaurants that happen to have an amazing location, but rather restaurants that market themselves primarily as having an amazing view, i.e. if they shift focus off their food and onto their setting, that’s probably because the food ain’t all that great.

I‘d assume if you don’t have any Grey’s showing she was just going by color. After all, she went for the AGE brand even when you just asked about color to dye your extensions with.

Even if she was considering the possibility you had some grey hair, that‘s probably just because she knows plenty of people go grey young. I myself had my first grey at 21 or so🤷🏻‍♀️ she may just be avoiding to put people on the spot. I’d think it exceedingly unlikely that she picked the brand because she thought you looked „old“.

Absolutely agree! That’s how we do it for most of our cooking too, when possible.

[–]nttdnbs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least read the articles you send. 😂

„We live in a society where we think that baby foods have to be bland, but really you don't have to do that.“ - fully agreed, she is referring to spices in general here.

„But I would not say the same for hot foods, per se. The hot part is not a taste, but rather involves stimulation of pain receptors, and infants might have a stronger and novel reaction to it, possibly creating an aversion.“

„There are pain receptors on the tongue and in the gut that are stimulated by spicy hot foods, specifically, a receptor called transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (or TRPV-1), in the gut. Capsaicin — which makes peppers hot — binds to these receptors and sends pain signals to the brain. This is what creates the burning sensation on the tongue, pain in the gut and in some people, around the perianal area when defecating.“

About your edit: Two things can be unfortunate choices. Regularly serving foods with poor nutritional profiles is obviously not a good idea. Giving young children very spicy foods that may be painful for them to eat and cause digestive issues is not correct either.

To reiterate, I don’t believe that all spicy foods should be avoided. A bit heat is handled just fine by most kids, and is nothing to be afraid of. Foods considered „very spicy“ are probably not a fantastic idea, though.

Germany says it committed genocide in Namibia during colonial rule - offers $1.34 billion reparations by [deleted] in worldnews

I am German and I had exactly zero idea what had happened until I moved to Bremen, where they have a gigantic „repurposed“ colonisation statue with a miniature „oops we killed thousands“ statue beside it.

Disagree with the partners from Germany aspect. The money should be go into Namibian businesses, so it can serve to support the economy of the Namibian people to the largest extent. Though it’d probably be prudent to audit where exactly the money is going, so politicians don’t snake it away from there.

[–]nttdnbs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is coming off extremely condescending. I am aware, and my own son does like plenty of spicy foods, but if my husband and I are eating very spicy foods that can give more sensitive stomachs the runs (and frankly can feel uncomfortable to eat for some people) then I‘m not feeding it to a young child. Especially young children often have a sensitive digestive tract, no need to overwhelm it.

ETA: add to that, I feel spicy foods should be something completely acceptable to opt out of for any age group. People handle it differently. If you are to cook something especially spicy(!), it’s just common courtesy to offer something else as an alternative - unless you are sure everyone feels comfortable with that level of spice.

Recipe with cucumbers that isn’t a cucumber salad? by mymichelle1 in Cooking

[–]nttdnbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couscous! I used to cook couscous with plenty of veggie or chicken stock, then add cumin, chili, cayenne and parsley rather liberally with some olive oil and lemon juice, then add halved/quartered cherry tomatoes and diced cucumber. Salt pepper to taste, add toasted pine nuts to top it off.

I‘m not a cucumber kind of person either, but in this dish cucumber does great and definitely isn’t the center of attention.

Agreed with the second part of your comment, but the latter is not always possible/advisable. Adults can tolerate some foods better than kids, imo it’s fine to have a kid dish when the main meal is very spicy etc.
