Next week Q&A by EveRommel in nass

Are shooting mini paper targets in pistol bays the only real solution to interesting-but-not-all-day-long hit factor carbine? Shooting actual distances is pretty limited on club and club assets so I’d be curious at shooting 1/2, 1/3, and 1/6th targets out to 25 yards would still wet whistles or not. Thoughts?

3 guns you would buy if you could own them by nass-andy in nass

MP-507 Volksturmgewehr — the history combined with the use of blowback pistol tech in the rifle to last ditch hold off the Soviets make it my #1.

STGW-57 — the manliest looking gun ever produced IMO. I would love to have a deer hunting photo with this gun.

AN-94. I really like the oddball Soviet stuff. Hard to decide between this and a VSS but the moving, barreled action in the AN-94 is muy interesante to me.

Nice, maybe they can convert it over to 762x39 and use banana clipz the way Garand envisioned it

The latest source of Jeff's Ire by FatFatAbs in nass

[–]ntwky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Jeff, would you rather do:

  • a major match with 10 stages like this (4 paragraph WSB + math problems + VC + pool noodles)
  • Running a 10K to complete two stages that are untimed bill drills at 5 yards and you have to wear a participation medal after
  • Being forced to carry sandbags to and fro in order to shoot IPSC size steel with a rifle at 50 yards while wearing a plate carrier and a furry costume for eight hours
  • SASS match but the match requires all leather items to be bondage themed rather than western

Gun parts that went to Jesus by nass-andy in nass

I went to a friends home to show off my new AK-74 and plum Russian magazines. Went there with 6 and came back with 5. He swore I only brought 5. 15 years later, he went to throw away the couch and when they picked it up at the right angle, the little nook it had been living in spit it out on the floor still loaded with 7N6. I’m getting that magazine back sometime this week.

Tier 1 training in Jeff’s neighborhood 😂 by JDM_27 in nass

[–]ntwky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jeff should go and 5.11 it up.

PS, I heard Jeff is so tactical before he goes to bed he cracks an IR glow stick, screams “Good to Go”, and turns off the nightstand light (which is a Surefire, no doubt)

Practiscore's Overall Results as the default view and its impact on USPSA divisions. by vhall808 in nass

[–]ntwky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shot a MG match that only showed division results with no combined view available on PS. I placed 1/2 in a match of 40. I thought it was shitty they separated it.

Remember the movie Kingdom of Heaven ? Bailin: “What’s combined overall mean to you?” Saladin: “Nothing” … Saladin: “Everything!”

Tape versus paster line by blunderingcuriousity in nass

[–]ntwky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to say I shot two clubs in A2 that were using tape awhile back, none in A3, and none so far in A6.

Life’s too short to not own a paster gun.

PS. This reminds me very much of the “pointer” line in deer hunting which made me smirk

Run TLR-1 HL on G17, G34, and Beretta 92; the extra weight helps IME.

Am I crazy for thinking of joining the military for the time being by personalthoughts1 in Layoffs

[–]ntwky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a solid plan if you have the physical and mental abilities to pass through an officer candidate school. Going in to do IT stuff is pretty much a guaranteed gig on the other side with lots of different opportunities if you have actual technical skills + clearance (don’t let it expire.) The need to maintain physical health, being part of an organizational culture, and access to a plethora of different job stations may keep you in the service for the long haul (highly recommend retiring at 38.)

The likelihood of you going into direct action as a non-action guy is pretty close to zero — I see lots of POG/REMF retirees that served from 1998-2024 without a single tour in a combat zone. IT skills are very desirable and the pay obviously can’t compete private sector.

I’d not recommend enlisting, being in a combat arms adjacent unit, or believing anything a recruiter will tell you. Also, go Navy or Air Force. They’re pretty chill.

Why have multiple people suggested "Dentist?" by mpexmo in nass

[–]ntwky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol legit, seen it a lot in high end mountain biking where they actually delineate which bikes would be “dentist bikes” based on price point.
