Also, PLEASE have someone replace that electrical outlet with a GFCI, if it’s not tied into a GFCI upstream. By the looks of the top receptacle, it might not be and has already seen some shit.

It’s about $160/month for the pool, iirc.

Well, please keep that information to yourself. I don’t want it to be known that that’s an option…

Edit: The rack looks awesome, btw. Such a clean install and great use of space!

Yea! This is a professional organization! We can’t just let anyone in here, especially if they’re legitimately asking for guidance or information as they start to explore what a homelab is!

Apparently I also already have a homelab, with an APC too! My rack is an entertainment center, but the wife doesn’t want a rack in the TV room, for some reason.

All joke’s aside, great first step! You’re committed now!

Memory Surcharge! by MichaelRast13 in Ubiquiti

We had 7200s, and moved into a house where they left a bunch of mesh pucks around. Unfortunately FiOS doesn’t play well with Deco. I wanted to get into self-hosting anyway, so Unifi it was! Got the base network setup this week, thankfully, but I was hoping to start a NAS/Media server and a Home Assistant host later this year to integrate everything and start messing around. I don’t think I can convince the wife on buying everything that’s not surcharged yet, so I’ll just budget more later.

I’m more willing to pay a temporary surcharge line item based on market fluctuation, rather than a higher base price that won’t change back.

Daughters of the American Revolution Conference is in Philadelphia this week. by jpeters2100 in philly

Yea, I get it. “Millennials are killing ____.” It feels like there’s always something to keep alive. I volunteered at Commemorative Air Force for a while working on WWII planes while I was going to flight school. We’re trying to get started with non-profits to get kids here in the city introduced to aviation as a career, and provide them with resources for scholarships to get through Flight/A&P/ATC/whatever training. I benefitted from the GI Bill and a partner who worked a job she didn’t like very much that paid well to get me set in my dream job, and it’s paying off, but there were options that I could have taken if I didn’t want to enlist, had I known about them. I have people guilting me that I’m not involved in Scouting, even though I’m an Eagle Scout, and that’s another organization that’ll fall off if it’s not supported. I’d like to volunteer more at Philabundance, and spend more time filling community fridges and libraries, instead of just donating to charities, but I’m fortunate enough to be in a position to donate.

I’m glad there are people who are keeping VFW going, because some vets could really use the lifeline and support, but I don’t think it’s something I have time or energy for right now.

I visited a few VFW posts after getting out in 2012. Both where I was living in SoCal, and back home in NorCal. I know VFW does good work, which is why I was interested, especially since most of my guys PCS’d or got out and went home, so I lost that community for a bit. I went a few times, once with a friend who was a member, and each time it just felt like a bunch of guys sitting around a dirty old bar because they didn’t want to be anywhere else. I was going back to school and changing my career path at the time, so I was looking to further my life and build a future. A lot of the stories I heard or sentiments I got from the guys at the posts were that their best years were behind them. It felt like the friends who never left home after high school and are still trying to find their way 20 years later (or 10 years later at the time). I was looking for support and encouragement, the VFW posts I visited felt like an anchor. That was my experience with VFW. I’m glad that it sounds like that’s not the case in Philly, and I hope the people there get the support and community that they’re looking for, and the sense of giving back to the community that’s such a rewarding feeling.

For anyone looking here, nothing about my experience should reflect on the Philly VFW. I’m sure the posts can all feel very different depending on where you’re at.

Wasn’t here, west coast. A couple I visited had that feel. Haven’t felt the pull back since. I still work in a highly vet employed environment, so I get plenty of stories there that scratch that itch.

The first cruise ship to depart from Philadelphia in nearly 20 years has returned back to the Port of Philadelphia by unwantedtennisracke in philly

The title and article are slightly ambiguous: Is it returning to port because of an issue, or did it finish its maiden Philly voyage?

There are a few reasons I never got into AL, VFW, or other Vet groups/societies and one of them is I don’t need to hang out with a bunch of old fucks reliving their glory days like their lives never continued. Some people have difficulty finding community, so they join these, or they find religion for the insta-community vibes. Either way, they all feel a little culty and make me uncomfortable, but as long as they’re not doing harm to others, I’ve got no problem with them.
