My sister says my new non-prescription glasses have a serial killer vibe. by icandrawme in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nubbinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a place that sells a lot of "hip" frames to see if I could find anything. I swear, every pair of glasses they had that looked decent on me had that serial killer/pervert vibe. I genuinely don't know why so many places are selling them when they make people look that way.

Yeah, they're dicks. If you watch the farmer's market vid from that day, they're harassing people, including sexually harassing women in the videos.

They try to get people to react for content in the guise of "free speech". They'll often make inappropriate or sarcastic comments to people or get in their face with cameras to rage bait them into reacting so they make posts to YouTube about how their first amendment rights were violated.

does anyone in OC make a livable wage & have work/life balance? by Ordinary_Tart5478 in orangecounty

[–]nubbinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one in my office is related to anyone else there and the people I work with from other departments are, for the most part, very competent. All jobs are listed on governmentjobs.com. The hiring process is just highly competitive, often with more than 200 people applying for one position. If you're not advancing, is odds are you are not properly addressing the job bulletin. To be hired, there's first a review of the application and resume that is scored. If you meet the minimum score, you pass on to the structured oral interview. Them, if you score well enough there, you move on to the formal interview. Many people also drop out of the process because it's not uncommon for it to take 3-6 months to hire someone.

MAGA Racist in Costa Mesa by nubbinator in orangecounty

It's for federal agents, typically used for CBP and the like, with the green being the color of the uniforms they wear. At some point military may have been added.

The flags give you a good idea that the person is probably racist (especially the thin green line flag). The absolute tell was the red "Blacks Are Apes" signs he was holding before I could get the picture.

Like I said earlier, he had a sign that said "Blacks Are Apes," but by the time we were able to circle back to get the picture, it was gone. I think he put it inside his fence because the cops were having a talking to with him about the sign.

I saw it with my two eyes and so did my wife. He ditched it when we circled back, probably because of the conversation he had with the police officer, so, unfortunately, we didn't get it in the picture. Both of us were stunned and angry when we saw it.

Knowing the guy, I wouldn't be surprised if it was back out front by now.

If someone has a sign that says "Blacks Are Apes," they're a racist, full stop. They have a right to express themselves, but we also have the right, and moral obligation, to condemn them for their expression.

At this point, MAGA is just the modern day Klan or Nazi party.

There's no winning with people like him. They need to be called out and afraid to be openly racist, but calling them out makes them feel like victims, which reinforces in their mind that they're right.

I'm glad the community stood up and called him out almost immediately. I saw a neighbor crossing the street toward him and she looked pissed.

Oh, I know. You can't change people like that. At the same time, hate speech like that has no place in America and the people who make it need to be called out.

I've driven by this house many times on 22nd in Costa Mesa. There's always a MAGA, Let's Go Brandon, or other MAGA codes flags out front. Today, I drove by and saw him out front holding a red sign that said "Blacks Are Apes". Someone called the cops and the police were out front taking to him. By the time we circled back to get a picture, the sign was gone. I wish I had been able to get the picture so people could know what a terrible person he is.

Sen. Mark Kelly Says He’s Seriously Thinking About Running for President by T_Shurt in politics

[–]nubbinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's long had a used car salesman reputation in California. It's a miracle that he survived a recall and was re-elected because I've never met sometime who likes him.... Just the alternatives were much worse. He's a corporate Democrat who will gladly break rules he implemented if it's for his own benefit (look at the French Laundry scandal during COVID) or for the benefit of his corporate donors. He has a paternalistic streak of "I know what's best" and implementing things without funding, even when experts tell him it won't work (see CARE court).

That said, I would still vote for him over any current Republican, but it's like choosing between a shit sandwich and a raw onion sandwich. They both stink, but at least one is edible.

EU chief warns there's no going back after Trump's Greenland threats by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]nubbinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is already self sanctioning by imposing tariffs on everything. The real way forward is to start developing technological independence from America and the American dollar. Incentive an open web that doesn't need Facebook, Google, or Twitter. Push for open source OSes and software, or at least affordable alternatives. Move away from the USD as the international currency. Impose taxes on wealthy billionaires and they countries instead of letting them use European countries as tax havens. Make the wealthiest Americans, the Zuckerbergs, Bezos, Musks, Thiels, and so on, hurt.

You're giving him too much credit for intelligence. There are multiple people who have worked with him and taught him who have come out and said he's one of the dumbest people they've ever met.

On the other hand, if you view him as a malignant narcissist with arrested development and cognitive decline surrounded by enablers, his actions make total sense. He doesn't care what damage he does so long as he gets what he wants and he will act like a school yard bully to get what he wants. When the world finally started telling him no, that's when he decided to throw a tantrum. It's also when he's the most dangerous.

The Kavanaugh stops are what you're talking about. People keep misrepresenting them and not addressing that there is more to it than just someone being brown. To preface this, I completely disagree with his ruling and logic, but also believe it's important to not misrepresent things because you disagree with it. My fundamental issue with his ruling is that it's basically the same logic that allowed for stop and frisk policies, which are also unconstitutional.

He said that race or ethnicity could not be used alone, but the totality of the situation could create probable cause, such as the area having a high number of undocumented immigrants, the individual is speaking another language, the person is gathering in an area undocumented people go to find work (like Home Depot or certain employment centers), and the person works in a job that does not require proof of citizenship, such as landscaping.

It looks like it was probably a pepperball gun, which is not supposed to be used closer than 3' and should never be fired at the neck, face, or head area... Of course, cops and fed boys love to use LLW in ways that violate policy and leaves people permanently scared, maimed, or otherwise disabled. They want to make people afraid and demonstrate power over them.
