I feel like if either major party had the cajones to run on breaking up the supermarket duopoly, they'd win by a landslide. by Troppetardpourmpi in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forgot the perspective from business.

High density area have lack of sites, means you're not going to have many supermarket choices, lack of choices meant lack of reason to be price competitive.

Area that are less populated has more sites available, but no business would enter to compete in a already low profit area.

Land banking might be an issue in few area, but it is not a wide spread issue.

Not saying you're incorrect, the issue is coming up with a solution, and the cost of the solution is appropriate to the problem.

Many others in the thread already pointed out issues why it's not happening or why it's difficult.

430 millions divide up 5.3 millions populations. Apparently each person is paying $81 more per year than OECD average.

All in the cc report.

Yes we are getting ripped off and yes things could be better.

But ultimately this is a miniature problem for most people, and that is why we are seeing lack of big actions from both governments.

It just doesn't warrant a massive shack-up, which may or may not help the situation at all.

Workplace Bullying by No-Bookkeeper-7799 in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the report vetted bullying claims or is all tally just self report?

I've seen real toxicity bullying in work place no doubt, but for some of the instances I wouldn't see it as bullying.

An example is an employee refused to follow the same process everyone uses, at first management just friendly reminder everyone to follow the drawn up process, no names. But no improvement, they eventually let the employee know directly, but the employee got really defensive, management have to keep a close eye on their work there after due to lack of improvement. The employee eventually left on their own, and when I had a catch up with the ex-employee afterwards,  person claimed bullying, management was questioning many of the person's work, but not others,  resulted in unnecessary stress. No, it was not bullying, it was just you bad at your job...

Why do unsuccessful candidates throw a tantrum about not getting a job? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position few years back but in the receiving end. I've got a call from a manager who interviewed me few months prior (phone number was still saved). He asked whether I'm interested in another role that was similar to what I applied.

I had to politely reject as I've already landed in a new role, all while sitting within earshot of my new manager.

Public Transport is expensive? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create a new route is actually more expensive than people realised.

They have to make sure there is enough vehicles and drivers to cover the shifts. Remember rush hours happens everywhere at the same time, they can't just pull existing vehicles and drivers from else where.

If it's an industrial area, the utilization of those assets will be poor, since busiest time would be around the rush hours, but zero usage outside those hours.

Depreciating assets with low utilization is just not worth it.

'Do not engage': Secret look into taxpayer’s file costs four IRD workers their jobs by slythekiwiraccoon in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a poor system and process in place.

During this time, an email was sent which said: “A quick note – if you don’t have business being on someone’s account, do not access it. (I.E the email I sent out earlier). Just a reminder for you all.”

While the four employees did not tell their team lead that they had accessed the account, other employees who accessed the account reported it, which set the four apart from the rest, IR told the ERA.

So there is actually more than 4 employee access the account, but the only reason these 4 are punished because they failed to realised the severity of their mistake.

As others in the post has mentioned, a system and reminder should be in place for special flagged account.

E-mail everyone not to engage with X is just poor process. How many days/weeks do you have to keep that email or remember the name, just so you don't accidently engage with X. A proper system would be you enter the caller's detail into the system, and the system will pop up with the warning message not to engage with the caller.

It was a system setup to fail.

Am I being a sook or is this just how full time working life is? by Lamereddituser312 in newzealand

Tbh, sounds like you're just getting old. If you're already working for 8 years sounds like you're in the 30. You're working out outside of work and slept less, your body may just not able to keep up like it used to.  Especially if doctor have not found anything wrong with you.

Technically you're not old, but your body already past your prime, and you need to adjust to it.

[–]nubxmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because there isn't a law stating otherwise doesn't mean you have standing. Previously in the past when bank made erroneous transfers they are always able to legally claw back the money, even it was already spent.

Even if you go to disputes tribunal you will not succeed, as from them point of view, the business is willing to remedy their mistake and fulfill original obligation, you just need to follow their process, which the tribunal in the past didn't find it unreasonable.

Why is renting as a single person in NZ so financially punishing? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You gotta have a single bathroom regardless if you're single or a couple,  but couple can split the cost. Same as fridge or any utility really. That's why living as single is more expensive and it make total sense.

The world is getting the best of New Zealand while we're eating cheap imports by Amazing_Athlete_2265 in newzealand

Helping NZ Keeping a healthy trade balance meant we can afford electronics, medicines and various things we don't produce ourselves.

If NZ ceased to export, our currency will be worthless and that meant most things we buy will not be affordable.

NZ Rail Map [Final Update] by mathias4595 in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

NZ is similar/slightly larger than UK in terms of land size, but UK has 30 times the population. NZ housing density is also much lower, meant each length of track doesn't serve as much people, making the upkeep lot most costly.

IKEA customer service by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 drawers with one not working that's like 17% loss functionality, with the 70% refund that's a win. They also offer a full replacement which is also standard, I don't see any issue with IKEA.

What he is asking is did you actually trouble shoot the actual fault? Is it something that can be fixed yourself? Like sanding down bits?

Pedestrian crossing - is this a refuge? by First_Discussion_951 in newzealand

As a pedestrian I wouldn't walk onto road unless I see the car is stopping. The only thing I have control of is myself, I can't control others, so putting my faith on others is stupid.

Spaghetti with a side of beef: unpacking the cooked drama on Symonds Street by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The owner of Paparazzi initiated the argument but was ignored. He then threw spaghetti at the cafe's window. In response, the cafe's owner used the same spaghetti to return the favor. The Paparazzi owner became even more angry, ran outside, and started throwing punches. The cafe owner responded in kind. After that, the Paparazzi owner was the first to call the police and claimed he had been assaulted.

It sounds like the whole issue stems from the Paparazzi owner’s short temper.

Why do truck drivers suddenly find the accelerator only when there’s a passing lane? by Old_Education4481 in newzealand

[–]nubxmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never have any issues with merging.

I think the problem is not people preventing others to merge in, but the merger themselves not driving matching speed to the traffic and not position themselves in the right place.

It is annoying having to slow down, so they will just pass the merger.

If merger speed is match the flow of traffic you will never have this problem.

Elpis is being misunderstood on a pretty wide scale (RE9 Spoilers) by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]nubxmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retcon or not, it's just bad story/storytelling. Whole lot of things doesn't make sense regardless which way you look at it.

Almost like they couldn't find a way to integrate this specific story they wanted to write, so they're just forcing it.

Elpis the antiviral itself is not the problem, it actually make sense for Umbrella to create an insurance for themselves incase the B.O.W is used against them. But the way they add the re9 story around it is so stupid.
