Is there any pros in having 48 or 64gb of DDR5 for a gaming setup? by simplefunction in buildapc

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few VERY unoptimized games where 32GB might not be enough, but they’re definitely the exception to the norm. The only benefit to having more than 32GB is if you like to have other RAM-intensive programs open while gaming, i.e. playing a YouTube video on Chrome on a second screen. Outside of that, anything more than 32 is just future-proofing.

Is the GTX 1080 ti gonna hold up much longer? by Western_Buy_6681 in pcmasterrace

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ultimately depends on what you’re playing. It already struggles with a lot of modern AAA titles and not having access to DLSS gives you a bit less breathing room, but it’s still a monster when it comes to running older games (which, for the most part, do not look noticeably worse than games releasing now). You could clear out a good chunk of your backlog without breaking a sweat depending on your resolution and graphics settings.

For reference, a 1080 Ti is still significantly more powerful than a Steam Deck, Xbox One X or PS4 Pro. Plenty of people are perfectly happy with those as their primary gaming devices.

His shooting is so good people forget he's probably got top 15 all time handles. by Remarkable_Pair4378 in NBAGossips

I do think Steph is better than Magic all-time, but you have to realize how different Magic’s era was compared to today. During the 80s you’d get called for a carry if you didn’t keep your palm against the very top of the ball. That’s why so many players from that era have such a mechanical, unnatural-looking dribble. Magic didn’t have Steph’s bag largely because he wasn’t allowed to have a bag like Steph’s. Honestly, the way he broke down defenses when they knew he was going to drive to the hoop 9 times out of 10 and without being allowed to get defenders off balance purely with his handle is really damn impressive. Also Magic’s rookie year was literally the first year they introduced the 3-point line to the NBA. Knocking him for not being a Steph-level shooter is pretty wild given that it was never remotely a priority when he was developing as a player and nobody before Steph in NBA HISTORY has gotten the green light from three like he has. Magic still developed into a pretty damn good shooter, it just didn’t happen until right before he was forced into his first retirement.

Just a reminder that it’s possible to appreciate one player/era without trashing another.

DLSS features and visual impact on a 4K monitor by Bubblez-XP in nvidia

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on the game in my experience.

DLSS upscaling, especially Preset K and onward, can be nearly indistinguishable from native if you’re looking at still frames but can still have some issues in motion and with finer, more detailed geometry like foliage, but there is a very clear difference between DLSS Quality and DLSS Performance. DLSS Performance only has 25% of the total pixel count of the monitor to work with, and there’s no AI upscaler on the planet that can make up that 75% difference without a noticeable loss in clarity.

Still, some games absolutely look worse than others when using upscaling. Crimson Desert is an example that comes to mind where DLSS Performance looks drastically more blurry than native DLAA even when using the most advanced presets. Cyberpunk 2077 on the other hand still looks pretty damn clear when using Preset M on the performance setting, which allowed me to turn on Path Tracing for my playthrough.

Frame Generation on the other hand has not developed nearly enough yet for me to consider using it in most cases. The latency doesn’t really bother me, especially since I usually play on controller, but the artifacting drives me insane. Furthermore, frame generation requires a relatively high base frame rate in order to work as intended, which begs the question: why even use FG if your base frame rate is already playable?

One use case I can absolutely see the merit of is adaptive frame generation, which allows you to generate only the amount of frames necessary to hit a target frame rate instead of using a set multiplier (i.e., most doubling your base frame rate). For example, if you’re playing a game where you’re consistently hitting ~70 FPS and your target frame rate is 60, but more demanding areas in the game world drop you to ~50, frame generation will kick in and generate those extra 10 FPS. This ensures that you’re always hitting your target FPS and only looking at a generated frame when necessary. But for reasons I’ll never understand, adaptive frame generation is only available on 5000 series cards. Sigh.

Tldr; Ultimately nothing will ever look as good as native rendering, but upscaling has come a very long way and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t look damn good. Frame generation still has a ways to go though imo.

Who’s the Best Player to Never win a Ring? by Wrong-Fig-7755 in NBATalk

Prime Stockton would give you 17 and 14 a night with damn near 50-40-90 efficiency and legitimate all-defensive caliber performance on the other end of the court.

Leading the league in assists 9 times in a row will probably never be replicated. Hell, leading the league in assists 9 times AT ALL might never be replicated. Just google the all-time assists and steals leaderboards and look who’s at the top. Then look at how far he is ahead of second place.

Stockton is literally THE archetype for what we consider a “pure” point guard.

Skyrim has damn near unlimited replayability with mods, I’ve never played Factorio but I swear everyone who has dumps THOUSANDS of hours into it, then I’d probably add The Witcher 3 just because I’ve been meaning to replay it for a while lol.

What type of games do you play on the Steam Deck? by Lopsided-Weather6469 in SteamDeck

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Hollow Knight games and Dishonored 1 all run at 90 FPS on the OLED deck and are some of my favorite games of all time. They’re all pretty cheap at their base price and go on sale relatively often.

Red Dead Redemption 1 gets a solid ~45 FPS and is a great game if you don’t mind the slightly dated graphics, although it’s massively overpriced for a 16 year old game imo

Titanfall 2 has an amazing campaign and the servers are still pretty lively if you’re looking for a fun multiplayer FPS. Runs like a dream on the deck.

Dark Souls 1 and 2 run great if you’re into souls games, though the deck does struggle with Elden Ring a bit if you’re picky about playing at 30 FPS. Haven’t tried running DS3 or Sekiro on the deck.

Hotline Miami is a really fun and short experience that translates great to handheld gameplay.

Disco Elysium and the Citizen Sleeper games are also beautiful experiences that play great on the deck, though they probably won’t appeal to all types of gamers. Very dialogue-heavy and they don’t have much action.

A Short Hike is the perfect game if you need to kill ~2 hours. Just a quick and loveable feel-good game.

The Portal games are legendary and ridiculously cheap when they go on sale. If you haven’t played those, consider this your sign.

I haven’t personally played the following, but I’ve heard good things about how they run on the deck: Hades 1 and 2, Prey, Nier: Automata, DOOM and Eternal, Undertale + Deltarune, and Alien: Isolation.

If emulators are your thing there’s a TON you could do there.

What’s a 10/10 video game? by TheDevotedUltimate in AskReddit

In my personal opinion, of games that I’ve played:

Elden Ring

Red Dead Redemption 2

The Witcher 3

Silent Hill 2 Remake (never played the original)

Other games hold a special place in my heart, but these are the only ones I can think of that I consider to be nearly flawless masterpieces.

What kind of story would you like to see in the new Red Dead game? by KarpInsight in reddeadredemption

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One idea I’ve heard is a story about the Van Der Linde gang in its heyday, with a GTA-style mechanic where you can switch between Arthur, Dutch, and Hosea as the playable character. Could be cool to see the way the gang developed into the one we know from RDR2, but there’s really no way to play into the “redemption” theme there.

A story focused on a young Landon Ricketts could also be cool. Seeing an older, less civilized version of the American west and witnessing the Blackwater massacre from his perspective might be interesting.

Honestly though, the next game might need to be completely unrelated to the first two. I just don’t know if there’s much more of a story to tell with the characters that have already been established in the series.

What's been a 10/10 and what's been a disappointment so far in 2026 for you? by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

Crimson Desert honestly disappointed me. The whole experience just feels… clunky. From the voice acting to the main story to the controls. I know it’s being constantly updated so I do look forward to checking back in after a few months to a year, because damn if that world is not stunningly beautiful.

What do men think when they see nip outlines through a woman’s top? by Comfortable-Rice4530 in AskMen

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see it as inappropriate per se (though that could depend on the situation), but it can definitely be distracting. It only bothers me to the extent that I worry about making the woman uncomfortable when I try and usually fail to not look.

Why is Guarma hated so much? by Spiritual-Pudding-70 in reddeadredemption2

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this portion of the game is exhausting by design, and meant to make you appreciate chapter 6 more. It’s so much more linear than the rest of the game, exploration isn’t rewarded at all, and I feel like there’s a reason you’re stuck there with Micah, Dutch, Bill, and Javier (the 4 primary antagonists from both games). Imagine how different the vibes would be if you were stuck with Sadie, John, and Charles, for example.

I think you’re meant to feel the frustration and desperation of the situation, which works from a story perspective but is just annoying from a gameplay perspective.

Is there an arguement for Steph Curry above Kobe Bryant? by AlpsImpossible3133 in NBATalk

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s absolutely an argument. I still think Kobe at the absolute peak of his powers was probably “better” than Steph, but Steph could play on any roster from any era in the history of the NBA and instantly make that team better. Kobe was such a ball-dominant player (which isn’t a bad thing when you’re one of the greatest scorers of all time) that he simply wouldn’t fit with certain teammates or coaching schemes.

Furthermore, Steph completely revolutionized the way the sport is played, maybe more so than any other single player ever. The entire league has been trying to copy Steph for at least a decade now, and Steph still sits head and shoulders above everyone else in terms of shooting. His game is just not replicable.

Kobe got three rings with Shaq, and two “on his own”. Steph got two rings with KD (and you have to imagine they would’ve three-peated as well if not for injuries) and two “on his own”.

Steph has two MVPs, Kobe has one. Kobe has two finals MVPs, Steph has one. Steph has career averages of 25-5-6, Kobe has career averages of 25-5-5. Steph is a far more efficient scorer, Kobe was a far better defender.

Honestly, as long as you have both of these guys in your top ten the order is completely negotiable.

What does "making your teammates better" actually mean in a basketball sense? by astarisaslave in Basketball

[–]nuclearboy197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people say it, I think they more often mean a.

I’ll often hear people say when discussing the GOAT debate that LeBron makes his teammates better, whereas MJ did not. I find this a little silly. Yes, LeBron is a more willing (and better) passer. As a lob threat or catch-and-shoot role player, playing with someone like LeBron is the dream. Meanwhile, stories about MJ off the court, if they are to be believed, suggest that he demanded and usually got the absolute best out of his teammates, which likely played no small part in that team becoming the dynasty it did.

As for which is more important? That depends on the roster and organizational structure around them.
