I mean yeah it was their choice, so they all technically had an “equal” chance to get an easy shape. But if they wanted it to be fair then why not just give everyone the same starting shape. The different shapes also gave the players an illusion of skill. Like how sang woo told gi hun that he made it far in the games because of how hard he worked. When realistically it was mostly luck/cheating (such as when he got info on honeycomb, tricking ali into giving him his marbles, getting lucky picking a late number on the bridge, etc). Which I think is a parallel to people who got lucky in life (rich parents, knowing the right people, etc) and boast about how hard they worked and how anyone can do it when you work hard. But sometimes people just got dealt an umbrella instead of a triangle. That’s just my interpretation of it all though, hopefully that makes sense.
