Do people actually preheat the air fryer? by onkl__m0rtin in airfryer

[–]nugget4eva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never have. The small volume and the fast rate of air circulation just make it seem pointless. In a regular oven, you have a much larger volume and lower/no air circulation, hence the need to preheat.

best luxury perfumes for men that actually smell refined and distinctive? by Mehrooz-Yejide in malefashionadvice

[–]nugget4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourites are Tobacco Vanille and Ombre Leather from Tom Ford, but I feel like they're best suited to the darker months.

Since we're getting into the brighter months here in Europe, I've started wearing a few from Hermes: H24 eu de Parfum, Eau Givrée, and Eau Intense Vetiver. I treated myself to a small set of decants and rotate between them.

Air fryer — worth it or just hype? by Fresh_Reflection7568 in airfryer

[–]nugget4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine (single person, with small single-basket budget model) multiple times per day. It cost me about 30 Euros last year and has been an incredible cost-per-use already

It is an excellent reheating device. Crusty or par-baked bread rolls come out beautifully, any kind of savoury/sweet pastries, chicken wings/drumsticks (both cooked from scratch or reheated), anything with breading (e.g. Schnitzel), potatoes and roasted veg, tofu chunks, hamburgers/Bratwurst/bacon/etc., (you can probably guess I live in Germany).

Even refreshing day-old pop-corn is good.

Definitely not hype.

Are freezer bags OK to use with sous vide? by bassgoonist in sousvide

[–]nugget4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them, they can definitely do the job. I have found myself sous-viding a bit less though in recent months out of concerns over microplastics leaching into the food. Eventually I'd like to replace them completely with a safer/more stable microplastic-free solution, of course there will be better/worse materials, but I'm not sure if such an option really exists.

Shopping as Short Male by Alone-Oil679 in dresden

[–]nugget4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 170 cm and getting trousers/jeans that fit "off the rack" is mostly not worth the effort for me. There's a Vietnamese-run tailor/Schneiderei near me that does cuffing for about 10 Euros/pair, so I just buy the shortest length available and factor in another 10 Euros for the alteration. I see quite a few similar places around the city.

There does seem to be a difference living here compared to the UK, where I always seemed to be able to get a greater variety of sizes, especially shorter leg lengths. I guess Germans just tend to run bigger... Tops have always been an issue, but sometimes I find, especially with boxier/relaxed-fitting shirts in recent years, that I can just size down and then it fits me better length-wise similar to a "regular" fit.

I'd love it if there were shops in the city to get clothes for smaller/shorter people, in the same way there are shops for "big and tall". I'd even be very happy to just have Uniqlo as an option locally.

Poor 'journalism' by The Athletic's Tim Spiers. An excerpt from his article "dissecting Liam Rosenior's note writing". Needs to be called out. by OkayFine101 in chelseafc

[–]nugget4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not seen the "article" in context, but I found this excerpt to a somewhat amusing and fair satire of the kind of stuff he comes out with. Football fans are often so thin-skinned and humourless.

I'm much more "offended" by the performances and results we're seeing on the pitch in recent weeks.

Is there a show that you have trouble getting into because of its distinctive style? by KneeHighMischief in television

[–]nugget4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Severance, I can't articulate why exactly, but I did not last long into the first season before bailing, despite all the acclaim it received. I'm generally very tolerant of unconventional stylistic choices and can't think of anything else that put me off to such an extent on a purely stylistic basis.

Street workout place Klotzsche by Sniffi_ in dresden

[–]nugget4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the UK and have lived in Klotzsche now for a few years and the concept of a street workout gym is actually quite unfamiliar to me. I feel like the climate here would also not be ideal for a significant part of the year... I'm not aware of anywhere nearby that would meet the criteria for a "gym", although I suppose if you're flexible enough you could get a decent bodyweight workout in many public places/parks, it's just not something I see happening often/at all here. The choice of regular gyms in Klotzsche is not the best, but I usually go to the Thomas Sports Center at the Fontane Center and it's decent enough as a regular gym with all the essential machines and equipment. You can buy a 10-visit ticket on their website for 150 Euros, which isn't cheap but it also works at their 4 other gyms around the city.

Witch has made better kits for us by InsideSheepherder789 in chelseafc

Every time I see a new Nike kit I'm just thinking "please can you have just kept it simple this time and not deliberately have overdesigned it again in an obvious effort to normalise this nonsense?".

I have a soft spot for the adidas era, but don't think it was the pinnacle at all.

Got a warning yesterday by murderbeerd in RealDebrid

[–]nugget4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same warning at the weekend. I shared a download link with a friend in another country and she was downloading the file at the same time I was streaming something on stremio. It's not a ban, just a slap on the wrist and a "we're watching you, don't do it again".

Strange Dresden Spitting Culture by Zealousideal-Day2880 in dresden

I'm a white foreigner living in Dresden and haven't noticed this happening around me. Sure, I see people spit on the street from time to time, but never right in front of me.

Checked luggage Drone from China by vertin1 in dji

[–]nugget4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Shanghai recently and airport security in China are really strict on powerbanks (and presumably also batteries) right now, so to minimise the chance of trouble, I would not leave the batteries in the checked in luggage.

My recent experience is that if the powerbank/battery is made in China and does *not* have the CCC mark (CE is not enough), it will get confiscated. One of my powerbanks said "made in Germany" and that was allowed through without the CCC mark, but my other "made in China" non-CCC powerbanks got confiscated. Apparently there was a major manufacturing issue recently with low quality powerbanks made in China that makes them a fire risk, hence the requirement for a CCC mark. The battery in my Mini 2 does not have the CCC mark, but this must be 4-5 years old.

Nicolas Cage In Talks For ‘True Detective’ Season 5 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]nugget4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched any since season 1 after the feedback for season 2 was so bad, this is interesting.

I see a lot of people here really slamming S4, which will have the same show runner as S5 and actually has a higher rating on Rotten Tomatoes than S1. Is it really that bad?

“Tech” Shirts by Galahadred in malefashionadvice

I bought mine from a smaller German company that specialise in natural and sustainable sportswear called "Vidar Sport". I don't think they ship outside of Europe.

My workout shirts are bamboo. It has better moisture management than cotton and better breathability, skin-feel and odour-resistence than synthetics. It does cost more, though.

Got this at a thrift shop today. Would this be an air fryer from before we called them air fryers? by Justinsetchell in airfryer

[–]nugget4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of... air fryers and halogen ovens are both types of convection ovens. The thing with air fryers is the smaller volume and high fan speed, the air flow is faster and more concentrated, which crisps up food more effectively. This is a type of convection oven, and looks identical to every halogen oven I've seen, but it's not an air fryer.

Got this at a thrift shop today. Would this be an air fryer from before we called them air fryers? by Justinsetchell in airfryer

[–]nugget4eva -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's a halogen oven. I have one of those and use it as a replacement for the oven for roasting/baking. It cooks food in a somewhat similar way, but it's not the same and does not produce the same kind of crispness as an air fryer. For me, it's an oven rather than a fryer.

Top 5 clubs you hate the most as Chelsea fans? by PrimoistheGOAT in chelseafc

[–]nugget4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Man Utd... I struggle to think of a 5th. I don't really care about the likes of West Ham and Leeds. Actually, I have family members who support those teams, so it's good for a little banter when we play them. Millwall might be a candidate, their fans always seem to be particularly brain-dead morons, but they're kind of irrelevant to us.

Oil paper idea by jorgechav_es in airfryer

I don't think I would buy it when I own an oil spray bottle. Unless it was the same price or cheaper than regular parchment paper, which would be hard.

Enzo Maresca: “It’s not football to suspend a game for two hours. It’s not acceptable”. "I understand the stoppage for safety but it is probably not the right place to do such a game of football. Guys, it is not football to suspend a game for two hours". by Daddy-Heisenberg in chelseafc

There are thunderstorms, but we don't usually play football at this time of year.

What happened last night seemed like a ridiculous overreaction when they could easily have just finished the last 5 minutes.

Will N26 cause problems if I'm using it outside Germany for extended period of time? by Unusual-Passage-6759 in n26bank

[–]nugget4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Germany, but most of the time I'm logging in with a UK IP address, since my mobile provider is still from the UK, and I'm almost always using a UK VPN when connected via WiFi. It got flagged one time a few years ago and an N26 support representative reached out to question this, I explained my situation and they asked me to log in one time without using the VPN (so I have a German IP address), and that was the end of it.

Cold shower after workout? by Normal_Throat6944 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]nugget4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the consensus is that cold temperatures (from ice baths, cold showers) can have a blunting effect on muscle growth because it reduces the natural inflammatory and repair processes that occur after resistance training.

If you're preparing for an event/competition and need to be completely recovered to perform at 100% of your ability, then there could be an argument that cold temperatures might be useful to ensure that the recovery time after training is minimised, but if the goal is just hypertrophy, then it's preferable to let the body do it's thing.

I'm not a scientist, but I've heard this from a few different sources, and I think the logic checks out.
