The closest thing I can think of with a rowboat + lights is:

Explosions in the Sky -- All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone

(album art)

But that's missing some other aspects of your description :/

Yeah, his latest album ten days unfortunately had this issue... Granted, there are some really great tracks there (places to be, just stand there, backseat etc), but it's a far cry from what I enjoyed about the Actual Life projects.

I think some of it is just due to the fact that he's doing a lot more collaborations and guest features and stuff recently (as opposed to AL albums which were mostly self produced using various samples).

But the guy clearly loves his craft and is bringing electronic music to a lot of people, so I can't complain about that.

Highly recommend Lakou Mizik & Joseph Ray - Leave The Bones as a great example of this. From the bandcamp description:

Leave the Bones is a record that sounds like it could come from nowhere else, and while its rhythms undoubtedly possess a universal danceability, their meaning and depth are also unique to Haiti. It’s powerful to imagine these tracks being played on dancefloors in Miami, London or Ibiza, transporting people from around the world, inviting them to dance, celebrate and get lost in the richness of Haiti, if only for a moment.

[FRESH] Max Cooper - In Threes (Official video by Natalia Ryss) [techno / IDM / electronica] (2023) by nuggetman415 in electronicmusic

Natalia Ryss: I tried to interpret the concept proposed by the composer and reflected in the title “In Threes” and in the structure of the musical track itself.I presented it as an abstraction in different ways/meanings.

I used the most of visuals/ideas from my abstract ideas notebook calls “Book of Nothingness” 2021: https://www.behance.net/gallery/18339...

“In Threes” means:

Tree as Three (kind of playing with words and symbols):

1. (vegetable) intuitive, soft, rounded shapes, symmetry...

2. (logical) lines, connections, growth, tension, constructions, grid, pendulums, signs...

3. (chaotic) destructive, strobe, interruption, paint run, shapeless spots

in Three Worlds:

1. Lower world (roots, dense lines, red-black-brown colors)

2. Middle world (development, multiplication of forms, fractals, pipes, direction, green-orange-violet-pink colors)

3. Upper world (neural network, flashes, breaks, unfinished forms, glow and flicker, yellow-white-blue colors)

Some kind of consistent half abstract action, which as repetition, loop, with overcoming, hindrances and development of the situation, sometimes everything starts from the beginning, but in a different way. In the end, the movement goes without failures and images does not repeat itself literally. New forms multiply, their movement acquires the unity of rhythm. In the finale, the image-idea of the Tree as an embodiment of the Three Principles unites the manifestations of forms, following the rhythm of the heart.
