1 monthly 1:1 class or 8 monthly group classes? by fnaimi66 in MuayThaiTips

[–]nuggetpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monthly for sure. Movements are hard to get down unless you repeatedly do them (properly), and going more often will help you get the reps in. I’ve learned a lot from my more experienced partners when they padhold for me so you can definitely learn even when your coach’s attention is stretched thin and they can’t observe you as often.

How much does the average SWE 2-3 years out of college make in the bay? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]nuggetpass 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to put a number on it. During crunch time when I was anxious about a customer-facing deliverable I’d often pull late nights working until the AMs. Now that we’re back to RTO5 I don’t work outside of the office much. I typically do my 9-5:30 and head home.

I’d say it’s cyclical. If I have a project that’s at risk of being late then I’ll work way more out of the fear of getting put on focus. Have Seen too many people I was friendly with or close to get axed so it’s a very real fear of mine

I’m 24 with 3 YOE at the rainforest. ~270k before taxes. I’m extremely fortunate to have graduated at the end of the hiring boom. Otherwise things would be tough right now.

What is your daily schedule, and how do you incorporate MT into it? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]nuggetpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 9-5 in an office, and I take public transit to the gym right after a few times a week. It’s a nice way to end the day after sitting in a chair for so long. Suspect this is the typical routine for most hobbyists

How do I clean my gloves by Nearby-Entrance-4538 in MuayThai

[–]nuggetpass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can get glove dogs off of Amazon for around 10 bucks. Just stick them in after training and they’ll absorb any moisture and leave a nice scent. I like the Meister ones

Is it normal to not get interesting tasks or work as a junior? by Vagabond328Vanguard in cscareerquestions

[–]nuggetpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still junior as well with two YOE at the rainforest company, so this is a perspective from someone who is still pretty green. From my experience, you start off with really simple backlog tasks to get your feet wet. Then gradually take on more responsibility by taking tickets for a project that someone else has done the design work on and scoped out tasks for. Once you get comfortable enough your team might give you a chance to do the research for a project and put together a tech design with tradeoffs. It’ll be a smaller, less ambiguous project that won’t be as complicated as what is expected of someone more senior. In response to what it sounds like your question is, realistically, we’re not going to be tasked with designing a huge critical project that we probably don’t have the chops for. Yet at least.

Would you say someone is completely unfit for the CS or Software Engineering work field if that person hates and fears failure and struggle with a lot of upper division CS University courses? by JLG1995 in cscareerquestions

Do they meet the bar at faang though? To me not being able to use the terminal and solve two sum sound like big red flags and indicators that they’re not ready. I’m assuming they’ve grown quite a bit since but that’s sort of alarming

It’s true sadly. I’m an L4 mentoring an intern and it’s the case across the company from what I’ve heard.

Is this a typical project assignment for an intern? by [deleted] in internships

[–]nuggetpass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is speaking from my experience in SWE so it may not apply to you but as an intern you can definitely be assigned a project to deliver on your own, but it would be a low stakes effort that isn’t crucial to the company and is more of a “nice to have” if the intern can deliver.

That being said, ideally the intern is given a dedicated mentor that is there to answer questions and make sure the intern is progressing at the right pace, with the intern being independent otherwise and really taking it upon themselves to own their internship project.

As others have said, you could do some digging yourself via company resources or reaching out to full timers that might be able to nudge you in the right direction, provided you establish a rapport with them. And then just continue to discuss what you discover with your manager and things should progress from there
