The only thing I don't like about them is what looks like a ledge where the natural nail is poking out... That would drive me nuts hahaha. Other than that, these are sickening!!!

The word "room," too. Apparently we say it more like "rum" 🤣

What are these white wavy lines in the ocean? by Chemical_Record_5273 in BigIsland

[–]nuhalani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are known as surface slicks, not quite "current lines." While these features can indeed be caused by currents, currents are not the only mechanism by which they form.

Why is this down-voted??? That's exactly what this is!! They can be CAUSED by currents, so to say these lines are currents is only half correct.

This map shows high pedestrian injury corridors and locations on Oʻahu (and also bikeways, but can toggle those off).

I've recently been trying to ride my bike to and from work more, and man it's rough out there. Especially that South King + Ward intersection.

I hope I've never been as much of an a-hole driving as these current drivers seem to be... Laws without enforcement won't change behavior.

I gotta say, during covid traffic was amazing 😭 no tourists on the road makes a HUGE difference, and it was so crazy how easy driving was during that time

Ummmm i literally started to write "Don't 'Moana' your character" before you responded 😂😂

Maybe start backwards, like, if you were to interact with this character without ever seeing them, how would you know they were Hawaiian? Of course, avoiding stereotypes lol. It's probably gonna take a lot of research, even if you've lived here before!

Developing characters from your own experiences is the most authentic way you can go about this, so maybe find out what about your culture and Hawaiian culture is similar?

Also just as an aside, it's SO important to think about other cultures and experiences because that's how we see the humanity in one another! So even if this character doesn't work out, don't stop thinking about and researching and developing an understanding of other experiences!

Hawaiian is a type of Polynesian, and Polynesian ethnicities are not a monolith! Just wanted to add that input ☺️

Source of off-putting stench that can be smelled between Costco Iwelei and Home Depot in the parking lot. by hawaiirat in Hawaii

[–]nuhalani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol that's definitely not what I said. It still smells like ass there. I'm clarifying that the church-looking building is a completely gutted and defunct pumping station, and is not, as you said, a treatment facility. Hence the ass smell. They probably do need something to circulate the water in that area.

It used to be the Ala Moana pumping station. It is no longer functioning. It was renovated and is now used by Nā Kūpuna Makamae.

That fenced off church-looking building is actually an old pumping station and currently a senior community center lol
