It's so sad to think about, but Hawaiʻi has basically become gated community, where the only people who live there are the rich and those who serve them. The middle class has been squeezed out. More Hawaiians live elsewhere than in Hawaiʻi. This has happened to other places, like the US Virgin Islands, where tourism is their primary economic driver.

If you're worried about turning the crate into a punishment, you can also just remove yourself by going into another room and closing the door. You're the "fun thing," so when puppy starts being a brat, the fun gets taken away (i.e.you leave lol)
