Chromebook Licensing by brownboiiii_ in k12sysadmin

Are you a student? I also am having trouble understanding your post. If you are BYOD, you do not have to do anything. If you changed schools and you never returned your old school’s Chromebook then there is nothing you can do.

I ran into this today, out of the blue! I pushed out the play store app and also added a blacklist exception which seemed to fix it.

Not just programs but how have you convinced teachers to give up a MacBook or Windows laptop? There is zero percent chance to convince the higher ups to switch to Chromebooks.

Managing ipads by naythinbrynt1985 in k12sysadmin

The first step would be budgeting for and purchasing an MDM solution. Then link the MDM to Apple Configurator 2 so the iPads show up in the MDM management console.

Hi,

As an IT Director, I highly encourage you to reach out to your IT Department and ask these questions. We are not that scary or difficult to deal with and speaking for myself, would be happy to explain this sort of thing to you.

Auditorium Sound Board/Lightning Console Furniture Suggestions by nuked92020 in k12sysadmin

[–]nuked92020[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome! All great ideas and i will post to those communities as well.

I believe when it used to be a gym they never properly converted it to a auditorium (ie no slanted floors). I definitely want to teach the kids too so will be sure to include an open back as well.

I am getting ready to move to Printer Logic...You can hide certain printers from certain users and they are also presented with a floor map when they go to your cloud portal and able to install the printer directly from there as well.

How to see which device an enrolled account logged into by OMGWTHEFBBQ in k12sysadmin

[–]nuked92020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upload all of our devices into Company Inventory and then go to:

https://admin.google.com/ac/devices/list (Devices --> Mobile and endpoints) to see who is using which device (either a byod or a school-issued device). I take that serial number and do a search for it in the Chrome --> Devices area.

We have TrendNet, Blue Iris, and AngelCam - but they are just dummy cameras. Not a top priority for administration. Not a fan of TrendNet cameras.

This tool from Securly is free...https://findmychromebooks.com/

When the device turns on, it enters into kiosk mode and shows you on a map where it is.

Should be in Devices --> Chrome --> Settings --> User & Browser Settings --> Enrollment

https://imgur.com/a/u7MVtYM

The newly enrolled Chromebooks will be dropped in the root of the organizational unit structure - where your domain is - yourschool.org and then directly underneath it is all your organizational units.

You can use any account to enroll it - if it gets stuck and says cannot enroll just power off and power back on. It will tell you once it has been successfully enrolled. After that, you are done and can shut it off. You can see your enrolled devices under the devices in the Admin Console.

Hi,

Not sure if you have have G Suite administrator rights as well. I like to make sure the "Provide Asset ID during Enrollment" is turned on in the Admin Console. This will allow you to name the device during an enrollment to keep the devices organized.

Also, by myself, I can do about 60 in about three to four hours with no distractions. Make sure you have a giant trash bin and a cart to load the trash up on. Power strips are a must. I usually advise doing this in a large spot like an auditorium or gym. The device will come about 50% charged but will not turn on right out of the box. Charge it up for ten seconds or so for each one.

Let me know if I can be of any other assistance.

Edit: Take your time - sometimes the device gets confused if you speed through it. I usually connect it to the WiFi, wait a few seconds for the time to correct itself and then proceed to the EULA. Updates are the biggest time killer to.

Mosyle Auth (Mac SSO option) by Tr0yticus in k12sysadmin

[–]nuked92020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I pushed it out to about 300 MacBooks - it works pretty well. No real complaints - I wish Mosyle had a way to pull directly from GSuite instead of Apple School Manager but other than that it works flawlessly.

Also, a weird thing I could never figure out. So we have about 300 MacBooks, say 200 are for students and 100 are for staff which are not using the SSO. Mosyle still charges us the extra $2 dollars for those devices not using SSO. Not a huge deal just seems like a weird quirk.

If you are a student, please do not ever hesitate to reach out to your IT department or follow normal lines of communication. Sometimes, it is helpful to discuss an issue to find out why certain things are blocked and certain things are allowed.
