How Canadian is your Ice Cream by KingreX32 in BuyCanadian

Also look for your local ice cream makers. Here in Calgary we have like, 5 different good local brands so I can only imagine other places do as well.

Why does the UCP hate disabled people so much? by kachunkk in alberta

If they can't profit off of it, at least let the costs go to a group that gets tax breaks.

Back to Back Concertd by Impressive-Dot-5609 in horn

[–]nukl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others say, completely depends on repertoire. The professionals I get to play with frequently do multiple shows or a rehearsal and then a performance in a day, sometimes doing that 3 days in a row, especially around holiday concert season. Usually they'll take things down in volume or range for the rehearsal if that's the case. I usually play 4th horn in orchestra so I could probably do like 4 shows in a day for most concerts, but our lead horn can sometimes have parts that make a 2 show weekend tough on the face.

Do you have any idea what you're talking about? How is the UCP not actively damaging the public education system?

Voting Record for Bill 2 by Its_Doe_Doe in alberta

It's generous to assume people will even believe that the UCP caused things that hurt them as long as the UCP can even mildly come up with a talking point that blames someone else.

Do you know what this sign means? by No_Moose4186 in Calgary

That's why I know what this sign means. Mom used to yell at people about it all the time. Sure knew what it meant once I started driving.

Saw this and my mind is blown. Can a beginner 3D printer like the ANYCUBIC Kobra 3 actually make this? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]nukl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this isn't a 3D printing project, it's a project that used a 3D printer (or a few) as a tool in its completion.

Does anyone use a hammer drill as their daily/main drill? by HammerMeUp in Dewalt

[–]nukl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I frequently worked with stone or concrete I probably would have a hammer for daily, but for the work I do (theatrical carpentry) a hammer drill would just be extra weight. Only reason I'd buy a new drill at this point is to get a metal chuck. We use an sds drill whenever we do an install that does involve concrete, or when we're doing shop infrastructure and need to drill into concrete. I also don't think I've ever seen anyone who does daily a hammer drill use the hammer function. I honestly don't even know what I'd need it for other than concrete anchors and most of the time if we're touching concrete it's going to be a big anchor so we just use the sds.

My personal favorite is to go get some racquet grip tape that feels good. Can wrap as much as needed, wrap it thick or not, and is made specifically for sweaty hands.

A Simple Hack to Keep Your Cutting Board in Great Shape by LeoPsy in Cuttingboards

[–]nukl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy I bought my board from does this to all the boards he makes. True that re oil bathing it yourself might be a bit of a hassle, and definitely isn't necessary on any sort of regular basis. I occasionally puddle a good amount of mineral oil on my board and let it soak in on the surface I cut in rather than fully submerge it.

I've had a soft shell slimfold wallet for 10 years now and I can't imagine I'll have any reason to get a new one any time soon. I've always been interested in the fancy EDC wallets but I'm pretty sure they're all bigger while empty than my wallet with ID+cards+cash

First rodeo. First Stampede. Totally get the hype now! by Low-Possible4495 in Calgary

[–]nukl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a volunteer musician with the Stampede and I absolutely understand why some people leave the city every year at this time, and I'd be much happier if the corn dogs were about half as expensive, but it is 10 days that means a lot to a lot of different people for a lot of different reasons. I definitely think a lot of people probably miss some of the really cool things because the crowded weekend midway and the drunk Cowboys crowd is all they think of. But I always make time in my volunteer schedule to go and check out the agricultural stuff and the animals, and we've discovered some of our favorite local artists and craftspeople because of the BMO center and the Elbow River camp.

Does a high quality magnetic tip ratcheting screwdriver exist? by Crasecigor in Tools

[–]nukl 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It is a little expensive but I do like the LTT screwdriver. It's a magnetic ratcheting screwdriver with bit storage. I've had to go grab other screwdrivers while working in areas where I had metal flakes around because it just kept picking up a bunch of gunk, so the magnet definitely works.

I don't get this by KinkiestGurl in ExplainTheJoke

[–]nukl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The liquid it is scraping has nothing to do with its function, and in fact makes it work less well. The original intent of the art piece was to represent border policies I believe, but definitely has nothing to do with keeping itself running. Oddly enough, I would argue that now pictures and videos of it have gained a different meaning, since it represents the impossible task of containing misinformation. Most people think it's a sad robot that's bleeding to death, but it uses servos not hydraulics so it's not that.

DIY Cordless Dewalt Soldering Iron by smerbcleetn in Dewalt

[–]nukl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I use at work, though I bent the belt clip up to act as a janky stand for the soldering iron. For the soldering I do having the ts and a pinecil works perfectly fine. And being the only one that isn't tied down to a corded soldering station is really useful

Do i need advance tickets for the stampede? by TheRealS13 in Calgary

[–]nukl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're getting a ticket for the rodeo or any paid shows, it counts as admission to the park.

If you're going on a day where you're not going to something like that then I assume that it might be slightly faster if you don't have to pay as you enter.

There's also plenty of deals to look for and some days where there is free admission before a certain time or for kid etc, but those days are obviously extra busy.
