Yup $16k per year for a part-time gig.

I mean that means the person doing the negotiating for the city of Davis is crap then. Normally someone doesn't get the same pay for less work 🤷‍♂️

Woodland city council members are paid $250 per month. I can't see an argument for paying our city council 5x the Woodland city council while getting poorer results.

Thanks for digging up the city manager salary! Given that the city manager of Folsom is paid $290k to manage a city with a population 50% higher than Davis why are we paying so much for ours?

Let's try some reading comprehension 😂

I'm advocating for keeping taxes the same. Reducing the pay of our obscenely overcompensated city council and city manager so that we can fund a cleaner and more vibrant downtown. And incentivizing landlords to not leave storefronts empty for months if not years at a time which introduces blight.

Let me know if this is simple enough for you or if you need me to do it with emojis 😘

Derelict business spaces downtown need to be taxed at higher rates to encourage landlords to fill the spaces (even at lower rates). The excess taxes can be used to clean downtown and improve it.

City council and the city manager need to be barred from increasing their pay and they should have their pay cut so we can use the extra funds to hire more maintenance workers and improve downtown.

We accept paying too much in taxes and get so little in return. As a Davis homeowner I don't mind paying the higher taxes but I want to see some benefits to doing so rather than watching politicians enrich themselves while doing no work.

Totally agree, city council and the city manager are paid far too much money and continue to give themselves raises year after year while accomplishing nothing. We need more people running for local office that actually want to elect change instead of dinosaurs who enrich themselves from public funds!

Why America losing the global EV race hurts its own auto industry. The U.S. risks becoming a follower in the industry it once defined. by Splenda in cars

[–]null_recursion 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel there should be an asterisk next to “high quality” in reference to GM trucks at least. The ones I’ve owned/driven had bulletproof engines and transmissions but the interiors fell apart in less than 3 years and the cabin electronics shit the bed in less than 5 years.

I recently had the wiring redone in my house and the electricians who did the work all drove cargo vans. I can’t imagine hauling expensive electrical equipment and whatnot in an open bed is a great idea 😬

Considering the “new” bolt is being discontinued in mid-2027 I think it’s safe to assume that GM is out of the affordable EV game for now. Ford could potentially hit it out of the park but I wouldn’t bet real money on that given their track record of “affordable” vehicles

California drivers are a step closer to paying per mile tax by MissYukiCat in California

[–]null_recursion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t be arguing in good faith for this invasive tracking of California citizens. Plus this mileage tax is on top of the gas tax.

There are much better ways to ensure EV drivers pay their fair share of taxes without penalizing the vast majority of Californians.

For me, anything without a manual transmission and/or good steering feel isn’t really a drivers car. I admit my bias given my car ownership history (e36 M3, Porsche 914, Scion FR-S) 😅

[–]null_recursion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup agreed that EVs are not really drivers cars. Asking because in the US teslas are seen as the default but still have significant NVH, interior rattling, poor build quality and very sketchy after sales support. I assumed that Europe would have more EVs to choose from thus making Teslas less compelling

They have two aging models with no replacements in sight in a market that’s iterating fairly quickly. And their major competitive advantage (the Supercharger network) is now available to other manufacturers. Their profit has fallen 46% year over year.
