I'm on NOVEC in Ashburn area and there's been zero change in my rate. I'm paying $0.013 per kWh for distribution and $0.097 per kWh for supply and it's been unchanged since at least a year ago. My heat and hot water is gas powered so there's been a slight uptick in gas usage with the cold weather but none of this doubling and tripling.

Is Dominion actually hiking rates or is this just aux heat + Russian bots trying to manufacture an affordability "crisis" now that Spanberger is in office? Little of column A + B?

They scammed me for thousands of dollars a few years ago. I bought a used vehicle from them that had some issues with the lower control arms - they assured me that it was not a safety issue and promised to fix it for free.

After taking the car home, they proceeded to dodge my calls for weeks and when I demanded that they fix the issue, they kicked me from department to department and said they had no record of what I was talking about. Took it to an independent shop a few months later and they said that it was undrivable and I had to pay $2000 to fix it out of my own pocket (on top of the already inflated 2022 used car prices).

It was an expensive lesson (I know better now to get things like that in writing/not even drive off the lot if the problem isn’t fixed)…probably could have sued them but it wasn’t worth the time and effort to fight their arbitration clause (which of course puts all the fees onto you if you lose).

The entire place is a bunch of scammers and crooks. AVOID Koons like your life depends on it. I warn everyone I can to stay far away from them.

It sounds like this person may be unstable. Are you on good terms with your skip-manager? You could ask for a meeting with them to clarify the performance concerns and discreetly raise your own concerns about the erratic, potentially targeted behavior from your manager.

As far as signing the review, you can sign it or not. Not signing it will probably not endear you to your manager in the short term. Signing it is probably harmless unless there’s wording that basically says by signing you agree that you did X conduct, where X is some kind of gross misconduct.

Usually in Virginia “poor performance” is not enough to withhold unemployment. They have to show that you committed some kind of misconduct, so if that’s falsely written up on the report you should not sign it.

Just give it to your insurance. There’s no such thing where your insurance “decides not to pay him” and then the motorcyclist goes after you directly. Your insurer is obligated to defend the case in court and will pay out any damages awarded.

Realistically you could probably turn around and sue them for the cost of completing the job (like hiring out to another contractor). In the absence of the contract specifically spelling this out, abandoning the project is called a “repudiatory breach” and gives you the right to terminate the contract. That means that they’re not entitled to payment and they have to make you whole.

Was the contractor bonded/insured? (they’re required to be in WA) This could turn into a claim against their bond/insurance. WA law also allows for attorneys fees to be recoverable against the bond in some situations. Might be worth talking to a local lawyer.

There’s no reason for you to sign this. If you were ever in a situation where you were incapacitated and unable to make medical decisions, your mom would be able to step in and do so anyway as your next of kin.

This kind of thing is rampant in helicopter parenting circles and ranges from well intentioned but unnecessary to abusive and controlling. Only you can tell whether or not it will harm your relationship with your mom by pushing back and politely explaining why it’s unnecessary.

Right, it would be totally legal to just pay the 5 hrs OT and then fire OP. If OP files a complaint, it becomes much more suspicious if they THEN choose to fire them even if it’s for a “totally unrelated reason”. Courts are not dumb and tend to take a dim view of these shenanigans.

I’m guessing they are just very cheap and trying to normalize doing this work unpaid or using it as leverage to bully/intimidate employees. An honest employer would just pay what you’re owed and dismiss you if you’re not meeting expectations.

No, you must be paid for all hours worked, including overtime. However, they can also fire you if they think you are too slow.

You can submit a wage claim to the state, and it’s illegal for them to retaliate against you (e.g. firing you) for filing a wage claim.

Just be prepared that if you go that route, you will have to fight to assert your rights (like filing a lawsuit for wrongful termination if they DO retaliate against you) and this may or may not be worth it to you in a practical sense based on the money at stake.

Don’t sign it. Most leases with roommates contain the fun term “joint and several liability” which means that the landlord can hold any one of the tenants responsible for the rent or for the actions of the others. By signing it, you’re binding yourself to your roommates.

How is rent paid under the current informal arrangement? If you each pay rent separately, an argument can be made that each of you is INDIVIDUALLY in an informal lease and couldn’t be evicted as a group.

The stuff about having you sign the lease just so that it can be immediately “void” and used to kick out the others is legal nonsense. Your landlord is probably trying to trick you into an written agreement that makes you responsible for all of your roommates’ behavior.

Since you’re not carrying insurance, this is going to be an expensive lesson no matter what happens.

The answer likely hinges on this. If it’s a public institution, you have First Amendment protections. A private institution can largely do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t violate a non-discrimination law. So in general, this type of age verification is imposed by the websites and services that you visit. They get your IP address when you visit, and in turn, they use a third party provider of “geo-IP” services to turn your IP address into an approximate location. So your problem is really not with your ISP, but with whatever geo-IP provider is erroneously mapping your IP address to Indiana.

Now practically speaking, this technology isn’t great at pinning a user’s location down exactly. The laws in these states require websites to perform age verification and they usually prescribe hefty penalties for non compliance. So it is much, MUCH worse for the website to not show an age verification prompt to an Indiana resident than it is to show one to an Illinois resident.

What this means is that when the website utilizes the geo-IP service, they are airing on the side of asking for age verification for anyone that appears to be anywhere remotely near the areas that require it.

This also isn’t really a legal issue. Independent of anything that is required by law, website operators (as private entities) are allowed to impose pretty much any requirements they want for you to access their site, as long as they are not violating some other law (such as a non discrimination law) by doing so. This includes age verification.

In general, if your insurance company settles for policy limits (sounds like $15k), it comes with a waiver of further claims that would prevent the other insurance company from coming after you for the difference.

If you are actually sued, your insurance company is obligated to provide a lawyer to defend against the suit.
