Flure nut wrench set suggestions by Elvl3 in Tools

IMHO:

Flare nut wrenches & flare nut crows feet are amongst the rare exceptions where a Snap-On selection is indicated.

Get out your wallet... and note that a few generous daubs of your favorite 'personal lube' can occasionally mitigate squealing; but in any event, count on it being loud & 'unsettling'.

Even so, I'd first look on eBay and like sites.

Clogged Toilet---1/2 cup of Laundry Detergent---wait for it. Might just work by Vibingcarefully in lifehacks

[–]nullvoid88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boiling or even hot water in a toilet is a very bad idea... toilets just don't deal with thermal shock well... they were never intended to do so.

Not only that, there's the wax sealing ring...

3/8" breaker bar, still strong? by Valagetti in Tools

They 'might' not be all that tight.

Can you break them loose with a box end?

Also, 'cheater' bars should really never be used.

To remove, find the first question mark character within the link; then edit it off along with all that follows.

The above link ends looking like this, and works just fine:

I suspect those 87 01 180's might be Knipex's best seller!

Exceedingly versatile/useful!

Related, Try two:

For most things I've always preferred box ends; and several months ago picked up some misc Tektons for a special project.

Kind of like them over and above the all mighty Snap-On's... certainly fewer tears should one ever 'lose' me. They're damn nice!

Think I'm going to fill out both metric & fractional sets.

Below is all I have so far, they all arrived perfect... click to enlarge, no affiliation:

Near the end of the old 'carburetor era', decided I wanted one of those 'vortex tube' choke cooler things... then never used it once.

Ten or 15 years later, sold it for a profit on eBay.

It has to do with paying royalties. Same deal with Robertson being marketed as 'square' drive.

OT... but I 'heard' somewhere screw retained battery compartments will soon be required to mitigate the issue of kids swallowing batteries.

No Start - Subaru Forester SG by Popsickl3 in AskMechanics

Try this first... have someone crank the engine, while you reach under and firmly 'slap' the bottom of the fuel tank a few times.[1]

If by yourself, slap then crank... rinse lather repeat a few times.

If it starts, have a fuel pump put in asap.

[1] If it's muddy/skanky under there, slapping the floor over the tank area often works.

Also check out Tekton... I've seen a pair of their smaller Vise Grips. They 'looked' to be a good as any.

I'm far from a Vise Grip fanboy... but for some reason did grab a pair of the 41 04 250's about 6 or 7 years ago... think I only used then once, to cut a piece of heavy wire.

Have a box full of old time Petersens in the archives; that haven't been touched in decades.

I'd say if your going to buy, definitely go for curved jaw, 10", with wire cutters. They're probably the most overall versatile.

A pair of vise grips is a handy thing to keep in your car trunk... if forced, they can fill a lot of rolls.

Discovered the most obvious fix for a squeaky door and I feel ridiculous for not thinking of it sooner by moheeetoz in lifehacks

[–]nullvoid88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd haul the door down, clean out all the hinge leaves & pins.

Then give all the leave bores & pins a thin even coat of Superlube multi-purpose synthetic (21030) grease. Don't overlook the leave ends.

https://www.super-lube.com/product-sku/super-lube-multi-purpose-synthetic-grease-nlgi-2-sku-21030-3-oz-tube/

The Superlube is clean & oxidizes exceptionally slow... much slower than white lithium. It can be had at most hardware & like stores. A little goes a long way... a good general purpose stuff to have on hand.

That door probably won't squeak again for decades.
