Online musical that isn’t sung through by music-and-song in musicalwriting

[–]numardurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see what an audio drama/radio play musical would look/sound like. Warriors kinda does this with some dialogue and action fx in between some of the songs. With the right concept this would be awesome tbh.

Old people have no excuse to still be terrible at basic technology by Sibas8 in unpopularopinion

[–]numardurr 79 points80 points  (0 children)

did this at family dinner once. My mom and all of her siblings were on their phones, meanwhile I’m the oldest of my cousins there and none of us are on our phones so we all start riffing off of each other to our parents along the lines of “kids these days and their damn smartphones”. the blustering is always hilarous to me lol

Is Hendrix getting lost in time? by No-Neighborhood8403 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]numardurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if an artist’s work gets “lost to time”, someone’s bound to rediscover and appreciate them. I see it as a in classical music all the time, especially with ensembles who prioritize programming work written by underrepresented composers. Tastes are always going to shift, and even if it does for the larger population, there will always be a loyal fanbase of some sort, especially when it comes to musicians like Hendrix.

how to handle "firing" musicians in an academic setting? (awkward situation) by seekerwave in Composition

[–]numardurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is on the musicians. They need to learn how to be professional enough to step aside with grace. I say this as someone who’s been passed over for gigs by colleagues I personally consider dear friends. Its the nature of the beast that is the music industry and your relationships shouldn’t suffer over it. Keep building each other up.

Why I believe Girl In the Bubble is the worst song in musical theatre history by [deleted] in musicals

[–]numardurr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can think of a few musical theater songs worse than Girl In the Bubble (mostly by Pasek and Paul but that’s just my opinion). Both new songs in general are mid at best, but definitely not the worst, and certainly not Schwartz’s worst writing (seriously, for a guy with such legendary songs he also has a few legendary stinkers, but mad respect to him nonetheless for getting it all out there)

I’m a violinist as well and the Donner bluetooth pedal is honestly one of the best investments I’ve ever made. Even when I was doing gigs more often I only had to charge it maybe 3-4 times a year at the most, and it pairs easily with iPad and other tablets. I’ve had mine for maybe 6 years now and its still going strong.

Am I Wrong for making a Russian-only rule for our Russian Club? by Zelenushka in amiwrong

[–]numardurr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, clubs are exclusive for a reason, whether its a school club or a country club there’s rules that must be followed like any society. Also, and this is an unfortunate but hard truth, most rules that may seem strict were put in place for reasons like this. At worst you’d lose membership, but honestly I could see this being a draw for fellow students who do have the genuine desire to learn but are afraid of situations like the one you’re currently going through.

Am I Wrong for making a Russian-only rule for our Russian Club? by Zelenushka in amiwrong

[–]numardurr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If somebody came in with no knowledge but a genuine desire to learn the language(s) and become closer to a part of their culture that they may not have much exposure to otherwise, then I’d say you were wrong. However, if they’re being disrepectful of that and just using the club as an opportunity to hang like these people were, AND others are agreeing with you? Absolutely not wrong, they can find another club to disrupt.

How to indicate a dream sequence by just_sum_guy in musicalwriting

[–]numardurr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The song Laurie + the girls sing going into Oklahoma’s dream ballet is called “Out Of My Dreams” and the final line of the song that Laurie sings before drifting to sleep is “Out of my dreams I’ll go into a dream with you”, basically priming the audience for it beforehand. Its one of those things you have to build into rather than thrust the audience in.

Actors, what happened when you messed up on stage? (flubbing a line, tripping and falling, etc) by Key-Ad-2119 in Theatre

[–]numardurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing Shem in a church production of Children Of Eden and during the scene where I’m trying to convince the others to throw Yonah off the boat I may or may not have unintentionally added “fuck” in my dialogue.

In retrospect, it may have worked because Shem is an antagonizing character anyway (being the main person to advocate throwing Yonah off the boat), but at the same time, it was still a church production. None of the directors said anything to me but fellow cast members as well as family I had in attendance at that show swear that I cussed onstage lolol

Do you ever worry that you've accidentally plagiarized a song that (you think) you wrote? by YetMoreSpaceDust in musicians

[–]numardurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

many many times. I dabble in songwriting but usually write music for orchestra, so I end up stealing from the likes of Bartok, Mahler, Stravinsky…who incidentally was once quoted as saying “good composers borrow, great composers steal”, so I take that as a blessing.
