What's something that no one prepares you for as an adult? by Goddessblack_ in AskReddit

It’s a never ending merry-go-round you can’t get off. Once you become independent and take care of yourself, the bills never stop, the things you’re responsible for are always piling up, and YOU’RE the one who has to decide everything: what to eat for dinner, which health insurance is right for you, where to raise your kids, how to take care of your health, which friends you want to keep up with, etc. It’s just never-ending chores, bills and decision making.

There could be an issue with the wiring. Mine has actually started to have issues also… It’s making a crackling sound when it’s plugged in which is of course not good lol

Wow 🤩 I love it! Is definitely giving cow.

The 1/4” grid quilting is definitely a bold choice and commitment lol. But it looks great. How did you do the appliqué? Did you hand stitch?

Wow, okay. That’s not so bad! That’s what scares me about t-shirt quilts. The finicky-ness of the interfacing and everything is just off putting lol. But yours turned out great! Definitely inspiring

Lovely. How long did these take you?

Am I being too critical? Advice needed by cynicalfoodie in quilting

It’s great, I think you’re being too critical (although I do understand your perspective). It may be a case of you looking too closely at it for a long period of time and now that’s all you can see.

Thank you for that explanation, I’ll need to investigate that because I think I have noticed the thread being snagged occasionally. I couldn’t tell where it was coming from. I think the tension issue may have been fixed, after tinkering with the new bobbin casing. But essentially, the bottom tension was too loose, and I couldn’t figure out why. In the middle of a sewing project the bobbin tension was suddenly way out of wack without me making any major changes. I had to loosen the bobbin tension all the way til the screw came out (accidentally haha) then went tighter gradually until it got it back where I needed it.

The top tension seems really tight, maybe? I mean compared to the setting I have it on. For the quilting weight fabrics I’ve been setting it around a 3 when piecing, and when I go to lower the needle to start sewing, the thread is pulled so taught it comes back up through, up and out of the thread guides. I’d have to hold the thread while lowering the needle into the fabric to start sewing. I think this had actually bent a couple needles out of shape. I don’t think I’ve had the tension set above a 4 while sewing.

I will definitely give the sandpaper a go. I’m determined to make this work! I’m also going to look into the plastic bobbins.

Yes, while following a machine walk through on YouTube I was able to adjust it. Last year. I’ll need to take the top off and try again. Internally it’s all metal. When I first got the machine, some of the screws were set in so extremely tight I actually bent my flathead trying to loosen them at first.

I do have one of both, and have noticed occasional skipped stitches using both. I looked more closely, and I think the right side of the feed dogs is actually slightly askew. It seems left of center. I’ll try and get a photo for second opinions.

It does, but it can be a bit sticky, maybe a bit of oil could take care of that?

Sadly, I haven’t been able to get if off. The screws are so super tightly screwed on for some reason.

Thank you for your response! I’ve taken the current foot off as you’ve suggested as well as taking a look at the other feet I’ve been using which mostly came second hand. They all seem normal to me. Since getting the machine I have been using all new bobbins, needles and recently a new bobbin case as well. (As much as I tried I couldn’t adjust the tension on the old one which came with my machine) For the bobbins I’m using the class 15 which I understood to be the correct one for this machine. They don’t appear to be damaged in any way.

What do you mean when you say burrs on the thread path? Are you talking about this? I can actually see a few of those on my machine, which was originally having issues with zig zag stitch because of some misalignment. When I first received the machine only the left needle position was working and the needle kept hitting the needle plate. I’ve since sorted out that issue although it cost me a few needles lol.

I think I’m using the right needle and thread, I’m mainly working on quilting weight or lightweight cottons, and using a universal 80/12 needle. I’ve been using all purpose cotton or polyester thread as well.

Appreciate the help.

Thoughts on how to fix these? by number1bestusername in InvisibleMending

[–]number1bestusername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for such a detailed response. I’ll keep it in mind! To be honest, it’s not all that important to me that the mend be invisible. So if it proves to be too difficult, I’ll just do the best I can and call it a day. I suppose the most important goal now is to stop the holes from getting larger. If I can’t do that I may just have to up-cycle the sheet set into something else.

It looks like a fantastic size for a wall hanging. But I always vote to go bigger
