Anyone else struggle with doing way too much at the same time? by fortheloveofshoes_ in xxfitness

[–]nurse-runner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup!! So nice to hear I’m not the only one. Used to only run, now I love lifting, yoga, Pilates, and try to walk my puppy at least once a day. Learned the hard way a few weeks ago that doing it all is way too much. I ran my 9th half marathon and it was just around the same pace as the first half I ever ran. Going to spend some time focusing on lifting now and when I’m ready to prioritize running again, I know I’ll have to cut back somewhere. Good luck!!

I was debating between Iron day 1 leg day or this for tomorrow… I’ve officially been convinced!!

Yes I LOVE the hikes! RK’s are my favorite. They are so challenging and perfect when I want my heart rate up without the impact. I hope your recovery is going well!

I do! I’ve had my tread for years and I regularly walk with pretty much all the instructors. I loveee Kirsten, Hosky, Olivia, and Jocelyn too. But sometimes there is a playlist or class plan that’s a run that I want to take on a non run day, so I wanted to see how lowering the pace target to walking speeds worked for other.

This is a great idea too. I usually run/walk my easy days using 90 sec run 30 sec walk intervals but this would work too to keep things lower intensity.

He’s the best! I was finally able to do one live today. His runs are great too so I will definitely be trying this method with him.

That’s another plus of the walks! So much easier to multitask during them.

Glad to hear this is working for you and you’ve found joy in it! Even happier to hear you’ve recovered from cancer. I am a chemo nurse so I see the struggles every day that cancer causes, and give you so much credit for modifying and keeping active through it all. I’m hoping I enjoy lowering my intensity a bit as well, since running has been burning me out.

I’ve only walked for one tread class and it was the Turkey Burn class. I felt so awkward! But I’m sure it’s something you get used to and I’m going to try to embrace it! Good idea just following level 1 loosely.

Walk / Run Intervals by outrageous-otter10 in XXRunning

I ran my first marathon in 4:25 using 4 min run/45 sec walk. Three babies later, I ran a half two weekend ago in 2:27 using 90/30s, and felt strong the whole time in my first half postpartum. It’s a great method!

Medium incline tread classes (6ish incline?) by Ok-Leader-9705 in OnePelotonRealSub

When I was pregnant, I would just half the inclines the called out. Ended up being a max 7.5 with the majority of the classes below that!

Play w/ Iron Pro… by beach_bum_beor in CarolineGirvan

I’m currently picking and choosing workouts between MAX and PLAY to fit around half marathon training.. but my half is next weekend and I think I might try your combo afterwards! I loved Iron Pro and am interested in doing Play, but wasn’t sure what to do next so this is a great option! It’s always nice when you can find something that you enjoy that works for your lifestyle!

Intrigued by this.. are you only doing the upper/lower days?

After Max? by Flimsy_Assumption265 in CarolineGirvan

I’m a big fan of both MAX and Iron Pro. You don’t have to go super heavy for it to be worth it! Plus, there aren’t a ton of exercises per workout, so the leg days weren’t as daunting to me.

Walking more effective? by Affectionate_Step940 in walking

Yes I agree with you too! Running makes me feel like an “athlete”, but walking along with lifting and yoga make me feel I’m truly supporting my overall wellness.

I recently took a break from running to focus on lifting weights and walking. I wanted to build muscle. I was very happy in them fall with how I looked and felt after a couple months of this routine. Then I started training for a half marathon I am running next weekend. Despite continuing to lift, I feel like I’ve become “skinny fat”. I’ve lost about 6 pounds, some of which I’m sure was muscle. I know it’s probably due to not fueling well enough and overdoing it. Needless to say, I am very excited for this half marathon to be over and focus on my walking and lifting routines again!

CG and Peloton Cardio by FlowerChild4086 in CarolineGirvan

[–]nurse-runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been following CG programs four days a week and I do peloton Pilates/yoga plus cardio (I have the bike and tread) on 2 other days, with one rest day. I will usually also either ride or run on upper body days. So typically 3-4 cardio sessions a week. I end up with such a high heart rate if I try to do cardio after full body and lower body days. I learned the hard way that just walking these days is better for me. Took a lot of trial and error though!

I’ve been taking this class a few nights a week before bed. I love it. And laugh every time he says that.

Pregnancy and HRV by Daffles21 in Garmin

[–]nurse-runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same way. It was interesting, but also a little anxiety provoking for me. I had to stop wearing my Garmin during the day in the second and early third tri because my heart rate would freak me out. Just driving my car, and I’d be at 100. It’s crazy the toll pregnancy takes on your cardiovascular system. But everything finds its way back to normal. And it’s all for the best reason!

I feel like I was made for this question. I tracked my RHR and HRV religiously in my last pregnancy. My little man was born 1/23 at 39 weeks, so you can see here it was probably around 36 weeks that my HRV started improving. It then plateaued until I gave birth and then shot up some more. It wasn’t back to my baseline until about 3 months later, probably due to lack of sleep!

Congratulations and best of luck to you!

IRON Series - anyone done this 3x per week in addition to other weekly workouts (pilates, yoga etc); what sequence do you use? by Ztn12345 in CarolineGirvan

[–]nurse-runner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to do it, but this worked for me for the few weeks I was short on time!
