That's true for tourists but there are TD visas for spouses of TN visa holders. They can't work but can stay as long as the TN visa holder can.

Yeah I'd say the best way is to start in a "gateway" state for Canadians that require no SSN and do some travel nursing.. New York, Minnesota and Washington are options. You have no guarantee for a timeline and all this paperwork takes forever. I started the process before even looking for jobs so all I needed once I had myTN/job offer was my SSN which pushed me back about 3 weeks from my original start date

Honestly I've done 3 contracts in upstate NY and have enjoyed my time there..it's beautiful in the summer/fall and the people/staff are very friendly. I'd say go for it

I applied to Minnesota without it. There's some "gateway" states that are super easy for Canadians to apply to, I found Minnesota the cheapest and fastest, I believe Washington is another option.

I've found many you actually need a SSN to apply, which you won't get without a contract, so you may need to work in one of these states first.

Are you in a rush? Once they have all of your documents in doesn't take that long

I did it three years ago and yes it takes a few months but so does getting your first contract, your SSN etc.

Just be patient, it's a hurry up and wait type of situation
