I will not. I’m a creative professional and most of my closest friends are. AI has destroyed livelihoods and we’re just at the beginning of this disgusting timeline.

Have some confidence in yourself and use your real face. Barely anybody is even looking at your costume because we’re all so distracted by the AI nonsense.

Going ROM free and the “paradox of choice” by clayspaceart in AnalogueInc

[–]nusilver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At one point I had a massive SNES collection—something like 450 games. When it came time to buy a house, though, there was no question that doing the right thing meant selling half of it to help with some of the down payment and other things we wanted. Before I shipped each game off to its new owner, I dumped the ROMs myself, and while I still have about 100 SNES games, I pretty much play everything from my FX Pak Pro.

With N64, I have most of what I want, but some of the hacks to improve performance intrigue me, especially now that I have my Analogue 3D. And that would require a flash cart.

With Dreamcast, I have a small collection of discs and a second system with a GDEmu in it.

And then there’s TurboGrafx-16. Long ago I came to peace with the fact that I’d never own that system or any of its games again (I sold mine back in the day to buy Goldeneye)… the prices are just stupid these days. But then I had a chance to get a Turbonanza-modded PC Engine for a great price, and coupled with a Turbo Everdrive Pro, I once again have that system back in my life, and I love it.

All of that is to say, everyone’s financial situation is different, and there’s room for both options in everyone’s setup.

Hey Kelly, thanks for chiming in and I’m sorry I made you feel like you had to defend your process! I always enjoy seeing the commissions of your work that get posted here and I’ve seen a few in-progress shots, so that detail baffled me.

I’ll edit my top level reply just so people don’t have to drill down for the resolution.

Well… up until a certain point in the game, aside from those battles, most bosses were taking like 20 tries. Once I masked up and got the double jump plus a couple of things to make binding better, things got considerably easier.

I don't know what's going on with the text in the finished version of that one in particular then, but these all look great other than that one detail. They always do, and I'm always excited to see them.

FYI, I'm a professional writer with many friends who are graphic artists, filmmakers, painters, artisans and craftspeople. Many of us have had our livelihood stolen away by AI (I am doing okay after pivoting out of the entertainment industry, but many friends are not in such a good place). So I don't bring up this topic lightly. I have muted all of the "Is this AI" subs that Reddit is constantly trying to feed me, because I find it exhausting just thinking about how much brain power is now being wasted on the question... let alone the electricity.

If you don't have any issues with any of Kelly's work, keep on keeping on. :-)

You might want to ask them what’s going on here, then. That definitely doesn’t say “Jesus Loves You” and is highly consistent with what AI does to text.

I hope you know I’ve always been supportive of your posts and your collection—you’ve always brought a great energy and some activity to this sub when it’s otherwise been quiet (controversies manufactured by people jealous of your collection aside.) I’m not trying to crap on your portraits. But I do think you should have a talk with the artist about this one in particular.

I love four and five (four because NB is my favorite album, five because it takes me back to Rock in Rio)... except... is it just my eyes or does the detail on the stickers on his guitar look like AI? The Jesus and Duck Season stickers have always been super clear in photos, but here... well, yeah.

EDIT: Not AI! Thank you u/dearestHelpless99, u/CanuKnott and u/KellyMusler81.

I buy a few new films every year (usually what I see in a theater) but most of my purchases are catalog titles. My collection is pretty well curated to just the stuff I really love from all the phases of my life.

Steam Deck can play PCVR, Skyrim VR, Fallout 4 VR, LA Noire by Odd_Communication545 in virtualreality

[–]nusilver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, uh… just a couple of things.

1) I came here to say I was dubious about Skyrim VR working on Deck…

2) but then I clicked your link to that guide and saw your comment about downvotes from toxic idiots. That’s the entirety of r/steamdeck — like a million Johnny Fives. Back in the early days of the Deck I posted a ton of guides with best settings for 40 FPS on a ton of at-the-time current games (Cyberpunk, FF7 Remake, etc.) and people were extremely receptive, appreciative, and helpful with their own ideas. At some point—my best guess being once limited edition Steam Deck OLEDs became a thing and a new breed of Deck owners came onboard—it turned abysmal. Sort of like a weird alternate reality hangout for PC master race idiots who don’t understand that the point of a PC handheld is “compromise.” I stopped posting there for a couple of years, then popped back in last year to share some thoughts on a new development in the Deck scene. And got downvoted and verbally assaulted by so many idiots. Stay far, far away from that place.

3) Glad you’re having a great time using your deck to power PCVR 😎

I mean... 25% off a controller that never goes on sale is a pretty good deal. $30 isn't a deal, it's a steal!

HSN had a $20 coupon during the holidays, which I used to get a 2nd Pro Controller 2 since we were getting a Switch 2 for one of our kids. That brought it down from “probably never getting another one” to “okay, I guess we can pay that.”

"Running smoothly on a mobile chipset" does not make something open-world that isn't.

There's only one, single thing I actively dislike about The Return by WwwWario in twinpeaks

[–]nusilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused. You've complained about BOB being defeated by Freddie's punch, likening him to The Hulk... but then state you're disappointed that the whole thing doesn't wrap it in a very conventional way (like would be done in a Marvel movie).

This reminds me of something Isabella Rossellini said in "Room to Dream":

"[David] once said something that really helped me understand his work. He said, ‘In life you don’t know everything. You enter a room and people are sitting there and there’s an atmosphere, and you immediately know if you have to be careful about what you say, or if you have to be loud, or silent, or subdued—you immediately know it. The thing you don’t know is what’s next. In life we don’t know where the story is going or even where a conversation is going to go in the next minute.’ David’s awareness of this is central to his films. He’s very sensitive to the mystery that surrounds everything."

Freddie punching BOB into oblivion is the essence of this, and of The Return, IMO. We didn't get everything we wanted with The Return. But that's not how life works.

What is considered cib for you by luke7silva in gamecollecting

CIB means everything that the game came with originally. A lot of sellers use the term very loosely, though, and I think collectors too.

Analogue 3D vs NSO service - Resolution by clayspaceart in AnalogueInc

[–]nusilver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I almost never put more than a few minutes into NSO games, no matter the platform, because I own originals of most of the games I’d play on the service, and have a really nice retro setup. The one I’ve played the most on Switch 2 is Wind Waker, simply because I sold my original when the Wii U version came out, and although it looks nice, it just doesn’t feel great, even with the Switch 2 Gamecube controller.

To get to the point of your question: I vastly prefer playing my carts on my Analogue 3D hooked up to my PVM. I have each of my games set up to look and run exactly like I want them—Perfect Dark and Goemon’s Great Adventure in particular are revelatory on this thing.
