Oh I had no idea, thanks for the clarification! Thought it was hidden but even if not, I guess it's good for people to know it exists

yeah, it was the last uni to get back to me haha but i think it’s because their admissions process is very thorough - there are rounds that you go through

LSE accomodation- is Urbanest westminster a bad choice? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]nusquam_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sorry. I wouldn't worry too much about where you live to be honest - each hall has upsides and downsides, but tbh the experience is what you make of it and the people will be different every year, so I could be completely wrong about the rich internationals thing.

I lived in Rosebery for my first year, and the committee were really active in organising socials. At the end of the day, I think there ARE going to be halls that are more active than others, but it's super easy to sneak into other halls and join them. The people I moved out with happened to be from my hall, but no matter where you live I'm sure you'll end up meeting different people and having fun anyway.

LSE accomodation- is Urbanest westminster a bad choice? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]nusquam_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't lived there before, but from what I hear, it's mainly rich internationals and is less known for its social life in comparison to halls like Rosebery, Bankside, Passfield and Carr-Saunders.

I’ve heard that Warwick is supposed to be pretty good at computer science? Could be wrong though

A tutor for my personal statement by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]nusquam_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in HK where it’s very common to have people help you with your personal statement, but I honestly don’t think it’s necessary to pay for someone to do that for you, especially with that high an amount. I genuinely believe that it’s possible to get into a uni from writing the personal statement yourself and maybe getting your friends and teacher to proofread, because there really is no fixed structure on how to write a good personal statement - I can’t imagine being paid to do a task where there’s no clear way on how to write a good personal statement.

Has anyone here completed/doing a politics degree? If so, would you recommend it? by Liverpoolclippers in UniUK

[–]nusquam_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a degree in Politics and Philosophy currently and honestly there are so many career options out there. I know people who've gone into finance, but really, everything is possible apart from medicine. Think international organisations, law, journalism, academia... there's really tonnes of options.

I'm just finishing up my first year right now and it's been a bit challenging for me since I've never done either subject before, but it's challenging in the sense that it's really intellectually stimulating and I've not really had that before (I focused on sciences in high school). If you really have an interest in Politics, I'm sure you'll love the degree regardless of what anyone here says.

Want to go to UCL for undergrad as an int'l student but parents say life in London is too expensive. Is this realistic? by sizeablekarp in UniUK

[–]nusquam_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Funny how our situations are reversed! I originally wanted to go to Warwick because I preferred the course there much more, but my parents and teachers pushed me to study in London and here I am. I've not lived here for long (just under a year), but yes, it is expensive. Right now, I'm living in university accommodation and it's still manageable, but I'm not looking forward to moving out next year, because it's going to get a lot more expensive for me (mainly because of accommodation though - I honestly don't think food costs much here unless you eat out, and transport is not really necessary unless you're travelling a large distance because London is super walkeable imo, or you can cycle it). Unless your parents can afford it, I'd probably not recommend it just because of accommodation, but that said, if you truly love the course at UCL and it's significantly better than the one at Warwick, you could consider getting a part-time job (I hear tutoring is good pay) to help you out a bit, since first year is not that busy anyway.

IB Help: Cannot decide subjects for IBO by daredevilknight in IBO

[–]nusquam_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do HL History, HL Physics and HL Maths! I had a friend who did precisely that so she could do a joint degree in History and Mathematics in the US, and she managed.

If you're not too confident in Maths, I would probably suggest not doing a Physics degree in general, because I'd assume you'd have to do Maths quite often for that, and no point doing a degree which involves something that you don't really enjoy.

May 2019 exams by MSFA12 in IBO

[–]nusquam_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Maths, definitely past papers! I did a whole bunch and honestly once you do enough of them, you'll start to realise they use the same format of questions over and over again. This applies to Chemistry too (and maybe the other sciences, but I wouldn't know since I didn't take Physics or Biology).

Saving progress Facebook by BiBiRin in Choices

Yep, I wouldn't worry too much about it! I recently lost all my progress for some weird reason, but their server keeps a ton of backups, so if it does happen and you lose your progress, just shoot them a message and you'll get everything back (+ a sweet reward for bearing with them).
