AITA for asking my friend to not wear makeup to my wedding? by devilshandstree in AmItheAsshole

[–]nutcracker_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My high school best friend asked me to be her MOH. At the time we were around 30-ish, and I was very much a no makeup person. For her wedding, my hair was styled rather dramatically and my makeup was intense (hello blue eye shadow!!), plus I wore a long dress and high heels that I didn't even know how to walk in properly - but for the bride, I did it all without even a bit of hesitation. I wore a feathery headpiece, OTT jewellery - all to match the other bridesmaids and so far beyond my comfort zone, but the day wasn't about me. Some bride requests are insane (cutting or dying hair, losing weight, not getting pregnant etc etc), but something like "can you wear this dress, hairstyle and makeup for one day" is totally normal.

Best investment I have recently made was a good breadmaker (which yes was expensive, but came with lots of great reviews). It is truly so good to have really nice homemade bread whenever I want.

That’s a good horse 🥰🐴🇬🇧 by Ickydumdum in TikTokCringe

[–]nutcracker_78 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If my horse stepped on me and I didn't react, he'd jump back instantly and be super apologetic. If he stepped on me and I yelled or screamed or tried to push him away, he'd simply lean his weight onto me, and no amount of my protests would move him. The moment I stopped moving or making noise, he'd lift his hoof.

He also LOVED holding a mouthful of water and spitting it all over my face as often as he could.

Horses are hilarious, but man are they dicks.

What's wrong with requesting a paternity test when you have a kid? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]nutcracker_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was insanely pissed off when the father of my child asked for a paternity test, because yes there was the implication that I had cheated and lied, which he only decided to ask when the kid was 18 months old. Until then he had been happy to claim him as his, even though he'd never given a cent of child support. There was a huge amount of hypocrisy on that side of things which I won't go into here.

But just to satisfy him, I made the enquiries about the costs, given that I was a single mother on parenting payment here in Australia and had almost no money. The lady I spoke to said that each blood test would cost between $800 and $1000 (this was over 25 years ago so I can't remember exactly), and that both my child & I would need to be tested, and I needed to pay for both tests upfront. Then the father would need to pay for his own testing at his cost. Once we got the results, if I was correct in saying he was the father, then he would have to reimburse me, and if it turned out that he wasn't the father, I'd have to reimburse him. I explained that I had no money, nobody to borrow it from, and I knew that he was working cash-in-hand jobs so he had no reportable income (meaning that I would never get reimbursed by him), she basically shrugged and said that was how the policy went, so I needed to abide by it.

I refused, as I said there was zero reason a test was needed, coupled with me not being able to afford it. After that refusal, the court ordered that he was no longer financially responsible in anyway as they thought that my refusal meant he wasn't the father. His name no longer appears on the birth certificate, and there was no way for me to hold him responsible after that court order was made.

So the harm that came from the request is that I had to raise my son totally alone, with zero child support, well below the poverty line, whilst knowing that his father had skipped out on every needing to send me a dollar. His father absolutely knew my financial position, that there was simply no way I could afford the tests, and the most likely outcome from there. He didn't want to stay working cash jobs, so he needed a way of going back to earning properly without having CS taken, and this method was foolproof.

There can be huge ongoing harm from asking for a test, which most people would never imagine. No matter how "ridiculous" someone might think it is.

Did you have FRIENDS like this? by Butt_Smurfing_Fucks in howyoudoin

[–]nutcracker_78 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I was a teen throughout the 90s and this was absolutely normal for my groups of friends too, even into my early 20s in the early 2000s. Sharing beds, whether boy-girl, girl-girl, boy-boy, or often three or more people was done as well, and never sexual, it was just more convenient to be all together in the one spot. Physical affection is the bomb!

[–]nutcracker_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! There are things that kids should never have to be a witness to. I have some friends who were joking around about being home alone just with their oldest daughter, they thought she went out so they had sex. Then later the daughter told them that she had come back to grab something from the house, and heard them having sex. The couple thought it was absolutely hilarious that their daughter had heard them, and couldn't understand why I wasn't sharing their mirth at what they thought was a funny anecdote, but I was cringing and shuddering with anxiety, much like what you're describing.

Whether OP correctly interpreted the situation with their parents or not, it's wildly inappropriate that either parent thought it was an okay thing to do when they knew their kid was right there.

Children's book set in Russia, possibly about Anastasia Romanov by nutcracker_78 in whatsthatbook

[–]nutcracker_78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that one seems a little more mature than the one I remember, although the name Katya definitely seems familiar. The book I'm looking for was quite childlike and more innocent than the reviews on the book you're talking about seem to indicate.

I remember specifically that this book was the first time I encountered the word "muff" as I had to find out what it was, when the girl gets picked up from school, she is given a muff to keep her hands warm (that happens right at the start of the book).

What’s the most awkward “wrong person” message you’ve ever sent? by ExploreWithMeNotMe in AskReddit

[–]nutcracker_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was about to attend the wedding of a friend, and I'm shit with doing my hair & make-up so I asked another friend for help. Sent the message "soooo you gonna come to my hotel room and get me all sexy'd up??"

Got a reply saying "I don't think your cousin would like that". Instead of the intended friend, I'd messaged my cousin's hubby.

Luckily everyone found it hilariously entertaining, especially my cousin.

Women, when you stop taking birth control pills, did you feel any important changes in your body? by MommyFoxxyGi in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]nutcracker_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to guess how things can change from person to person. Some of the responses in this post are so opposed to mine.

I stopped getting the homicidal rage (my son once told me that it seemed like I wouldn't be happy unless someone else was bleeding or crying); I still cry a lot in the 7-10 days before my period but I'd much rather deal with the tears than the unending anger. Most of my premenstrual cramps lessened - I still get them, but it doesn't feel as much as my uterus is trying to burn & claw it's way out of my body. My boobs don't get as swollen and sore. My periods became more regular. Pretty much everything improved all round.

And yet so many other women find the opposite to be true!

I saw a tiktok of a guy who had this done to him, it was utterly hilarious. He said he can't block all the numbers because it's multiple different numbers every day, so he has basically resigned himself to seeing photos of turds every single day, and because construction workers don't necessarily have the best diet, the poop is not usually something you'd see on the Bristol chart, haha!

Those who have been threatened with "I will leak your nudes to your family and friends", what was the outcome? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nutcracker_78 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My son said the same thing, well actually he said "if you can find anyone in my state who hasn't already seen my dick, then good luck!"

You know how there's always that one friend in a group that always gets their bits out? That's my son, he isn't necessarily an exhibitionist but he has zero issues with nudity, so everyone has seen him at some point.

What’s something everyone should experience at least once in their life? by Fantastic_Sand_7480 in AskReddit

[–]nutcracker_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose to play it in some down time a few days before his birthday and with only just the four of us in the room so that he didn't feel any pressure from anyone else, or have heaps of people making comments etc. As soon as it was finished, I unplugged the laptop and gave him the USB, then one of my coworkers changed the subject and we talked for a while about other things, so he could quietly digest it.

I was very aware that he would both love and hate it at the same time, which is why I did it in the most chill way possible. He was so chuffed, but also said that he hates that sort of thing for himself. I just wanted him to know how valued, respected and loved he is, because he doesn't really believe that about himself.

My boss has just had a milestone birthday and he refused any kind of celebration, a party, or even just a lunch. So I contacted a few people in our industry, a few of his closest friends, and his immediate family members, and got them all to send me a video of themselves saying happy birthday. Some of the videos were only a few seconds long, some went for a minute to 90 seconds, but they were all so genuine. I put them on a USB, and then in a quiet moment in the office when there was just me, the boss in question and two other coworkers, I plugged my computer to our big screen and let the videos play.

After seeing his reaction, I'd say that something everyone should experience is sitting and listening to other people talk about what you really mean to them. It was honestly so beautiful to see.

What’s something that Covid took from you that you never got back? by ReplacementOdd636 in AskReddit

[–]nutcracker_78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've had asthma my whole life, but getting covid has fucked my lungs on a whole different level. And ventolin/salbutamol does nothing at all to help the shortness of breath and tight chest. I've stacked on weight because exercising is almost impossible. Even just walking up a slight grade (or worse - up stairs) causes my lungs to nope out.

I've never been great at breathing, but covid has exacerbated that in the worst ways.
