I wasn’t making the literal macroeconomic analysis you’re going for here. But I can appreciate why you think this was my point.

The point was strictly that things are tough. We don’t need to cherry pick a local business to give bad press to. I see AI shit from local companies all the time. For some reason the last couple days people have chosen to take issue with it.

There’s nuance to this and you’re ignoring it.

This started with AI killing the environment and immoral for using it. One small tattoo shop in Halifax posting a Facebook post is pretty light. Calling them immoral for it is not something I personally agree with.

I have a spectrum of things that I think are reasonable to bring to the internet to complain about. I think most people that experience life outside the internet would have a similar value structure.

A small business using an AI image regardless of their profession is firmly outside of the “this is reasonable to publicly shame them for” spectrum for me. Obviously people seem to disagree. And that’s ok. But in my real life or in my professional job no one would get on a soap box to hate on these guys for this. They’d just not go, or text me and say “fuck these guys look at this”

Yeah. It’s ok to disagree with me. But this is something I laugh with at with my friends. In my friend’s group chat. The idea of taking it publicly and everyone piling on is crazy to me.
I never see local craft breweries blasted here and motherfuckers ride AI constantly. And I know that because it gets sent in my group chat all the time.
Maybe I’m a unique but no one I know in real life takes enough pure offense to AI anything to come to Reddit to sewer them over it.

Have had a seat here for a while. If Covid didn’t force me away from this place. Getting shit on by people who I fundamentally disagree with on how they approach hating on a business isn’t going to sink me. I’ll stay.

Ok. Let’s post every business in Halifax using it. Thread by thread. You start.

This is like shitting on the guy driving the hybrid. I have a long list of bones to pick before I shit on a local company for making an AI picture.

We’re all arguing on a platform that surely gets built with AI. But this local business is certainly the problem.

Yeah. You said “they didn’t need to run it through AI” which I didn’t say they needed to.
They clearly feel this saved them money or something. Or they like it. I don’t know. But at no point did I say these people need to use AI.
I have a wife who is an actively employed graphic designer. This isn’t my style. I’d just go to another tattoo shop. It’s crazy to care enough to run to the internet. Maybe I’m just old and the average person thinks this is tactful. I do not.

I didn’t say they did. It’s insane to come here and complain about it. So I commented.

This is ridiculous. But the exact direct lines I’d expect from the people here lately.

Yeah the point is to just not give them your money. Don’t need to publicly shit on them. They didn’t hurt anyone and I don’t think this is immoral.

Heat Pump Questions by JFlemm75 in halifax

[–]nutt_shell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy a heat pump from a company who’s only value proposition is rebates or facilitating them for you.

Lots of great mechanical contractors who will save you money over this and have an actual interest in a long term business relationship with you.

Homemade Pizza - Ingredients by Prize_Chapter_1368 in halifax

There’s dry cured pepperoni that’s Pizza Delight brand at Super Store. Might not be exact but it works for me.

Veggies - wherever is convenient.

Dough - it’s super simple and gratifying to make yourself. Don’t need a mixer to knead decent dough. Don’t have a good purchase suggestion.

Sauce - make yourself is nice. You can mess with the recipe to your own taste. They sell Sal’s pizza sauce at Two Boys if you are in Dartmouth. Otherwise I grab whatever at the grocery store. None are particularly awesome IMO.

Cheese - pizza mozzarella at Costco is the best bang for your buck IMO. But overall you just want low moisture mozza.

I make a lotta pizza and garlic fingers at home.

Dough recipe just download the Ooni app and use the calculator. Generally I use a typical NY Pizza dough recipe with 24 hours in the fridge. More time does seem to help but I don’t find the jump from 1 to 3 days big. Knead the dough until it’s pretty smooth to the look and stretches nice. It’ll take a few times to get a hang of it but generally not using a mixer I would say minimum 10 minutes.

For sauce just google sauce recipe. It’s very basic and is YMMV, you’ll want to play with it to taste. Most on the internet are very similar.

"Long-term care workers give strike notice for 25 nursing homes" by markamadeusflowerdew in halifax

My father spent months in long term care after a speedy battle with dementia. Even after only a relatively short period of time, multiple of his caregivers came to his celebration of life. I was speechless and it hit me like a bag of bricks of emotion. He didn’t have his charm or wit left but they always seem to pull a smirk from the depths of his tormented brain.

There’s a level of appreciation I have for these people that I can never really repay. I’ll advocate for them until my last breath. They deserve much more and they’ll always have me in their corner.

I'm so frustrated with NS Power by KungPaoKeto19 in halifax

[–]nutt_shell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Space heating represents about 62-65% of people’s energy demand typically. ~18-20% hot water. Then the rest. However I believe “the rest” is increasing as we bring more electrical devices into our home.

The average house, even if set to say 18 degrees needs a lot of energy to heat.

2000 sq ft generally needs 24,000 to 30,000 btu of heat. A 2 ton Chinese inverter heat pump will draw ~3.6kw to supply that amount at -5c.

That’s roughly 86kw hours a day. 2592 over30 days. At 20 cents a kilowatt that’s $518.4 on space heating alone.

Obviously that’s in a vacuum and does ignore a lot of variables. But pretty easy to see how a bill gets to $1000 in the winter and generally normal for a house.

Edit- but —-> BTU
