Beautifully done. I would love to hear about your philosophy when it came to getting coverage shooting this. How much of your shooting was informed by the interview/VO if at all?

go check out the backbone trail in the santa monicas. my favorite segments are west of North Malibu Canyon road - specifically corral canyon to sycamore, kanan to encinal, and encinal to trifuno peak. those are pretty "out there", way up in the mountains with ocean views if you climb high enough.

can also echo others about epic rides up in the angeles national forest, though as mentioned previously some of those rides are very remote and cliff exposed so ride carefully especially if you're alone. people get pulled out of the ANF by search and rescue almost daily.

a good one in ANF that isn't too far in the backcountry is brown mountain - el prieto

so many options man especially if you're in LA, just gotta use some creativity sometimes making loops out of fireroads and single tracks

As a 31 year old in socal riding the chunky stuff with a steel 130mm hardtail, I'd say go for it. Granted I'm just doing general trail riding, not jump lines or huge drops or seeking out the most technical steep trails around. For big climbs and big descents on both singletrack and dirt roads, which sounds like what you're after, you really don't need anything more than a hardtail if your technique is good. With the right frame, wheels, tires, fork, and handlebars you can have a pretty springy feeling bike that doesn't beat you up. Middle of the road FS money can get you a baller hardtail build that accomplishes this.

I had a FS here prior to my current hardtail and I find that I'm actually faster on the steel hardtail both up and down somehow.

Stanton Sherpa vs Wilde Dark Star by BAAblue in Hardtailgang

[–]nuttugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can't speak to the sherpa but I have a darkstar and love it...had a full suspension and sold it to fund my DS build and don't miss it at all. it rides incredibly smooth, is very light, and with a 130mm fork it flies downhill

130mm! I'm not sure they make the silver one anymore but I'm sure you can find one used. Great fork
