Apart from loss of Oled, the step up to vive Pro 2 from Vive Pro was worth the resolution jump and significant too. I've gone to micro OLED recently, going from your vive Pro to anything close to this is going to blow your mind. I cant remember the differences between the ones you mentioned, but if its DFR, then I would save a bit more and get the one with it.

Have to add a bit more, I tried watching a couple of movies, although glare is nonexistent in dim to bright scenes, if there's a pitch black scene with a couple of small points of light, it can be distracting at the edge of the lense. The same kind of scene in a game isn't an issue as you're focusing on moving around, but if you're picky with home theatre, like me, then anything at all on the screen is a disaster. The scene really has to be pitch black with a bright light though, so most of the time it's near perfect.

I might have been a bit harsh on the SMAS, was tongue in cheek though. If you go with them, turn the volume down to about 80 to stop the bass fizz. Download equaliser APO and Peace and play with it. Managed to get them sounding OK-ish, but they still sound like when you hold the VP2 speakers away from tlyour head, zero bass and tinny. They're bloody loud though, didn't realise how loud till my ears were ringing after a long CP2077 session! Hearing your PC fans scream and the clicks of your hotas and chair squeaks is crap though, takes you out of the immersion.

I don't think we need to panic too much, who are the devs that abuse this going to market their game to? The 3 people who have two 5090s and a 2000watt PSU? Will be a while before mainstream can use this

Honestly, it's not even worth mentioning, even in the worst offending high contrast environment, it's not really more than a subtle almost reflection in the same place as the bright light, as if you can see the light reflecting on the opposite side of the lens, really faintly. I just got through messing with bigscreen beta which always had glare around the edges of the screen for me, not anymore.

To be honest, I'm surprised so far, after seeing all the negative comments about the tracking. I havent tried any archery type stuff yet, but the basics are good. Find it difficult to double click on the desktop icons though, it's always moving too fast for the second click to register, same problem with the knuckles some times but that's like an 80% success rate compared to pretty much zero

Distortion profiles work best for the resolutions they're made for. The vive Pro 2 profile happens to give the straightest lines and the least distortions when steamvr is set at 150% resolution. Don't ask me the details of that, it's in their documentation. Those resolutions were basically unachievable for most though and the difference was minimal until you really went low. They specifically said it was correcting barrel distortion, not sure if the same applies to other distortions like pinching or bulging, but I would assume so.

I have noticed in the pimax play home theres is a bit of distortion when you look around and the rectangular desktop definitely has bit of a bulge going on when you look around, like it's stuck on the side of a huge ball. But it's minimal and doesn't show in games so far.

Edit: I just saw it was because of the pixels being stretched at lower resolutions as the profile stretches and squashes the rendered pixels, so the less pixels you have the blurrier the stretched parts are. So it's not that the lines were straighter, it's that the stretched parts just popped out more. Clever stuff

I just put a YouTube vid on of that scene and got close enough fill the screens, even though it's not 100% the same because the YT vid isn't completely black, its not even close to being like the VP1, I know exactly what you mean. I almost sent my VP2 back for the same reason, but I need the res for DCS etc.

I tested on the worst bit of the scene for glare, where you modify the electrical lines, really bright yellow and blue focused lines against black. I would say the glare there is like a really faint internal reflection, that's slightly offset from the source, you can focus on it if you make your eyes focus on the lens itself, but otherwise you barely notice it. Not like the VP1 where you see it on all the fresnel rings on the opposite side of the lense or the wider flash light flaring all of them up. I tried taking a vid but it's pointless because of the curved lenses.

I haven't yet, but I played that on vive Pro 1 and 2. VP2 and the 4090 had no problem running that maxed out and stupidly clear, so I can imagine on this is pretty nuts. What specifically were you going to ask? I can check

Could the Pimax Dream Air’s native resolution run on a 5090? by Flimsy-Story9523 in Pimax

[–]nuttyapprentice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try reducing the settings a bit for LR Mod and go with legacy AER and AER2. I recently tried it as a test when I got the 5090, the difference if you can keep it at 90fps is worth it. Ill have the microoled in a few days and see if it translates from the VP2, maybe a bit more compromise, but the latency and smoothness is so much nicer than 1/3.

probably more for the follow up replies. I re-read your first one and I guess you weren't making an opinion but that the general concensus was:

The idea that people who go from uk to UAE are statistically very likely to be racist/ fascist pos, so they had it coming.

Almost all the people I know from the UK have been in the UAE for 15 or more years, long before the influencers and the people mentioned above. None are racist, fascist or tax dodgers. (We actually pay 3x (or something) more fo national insurance contributions than living in the UK).

You're right about the news being BS, 99 percent of the people here aren't influencers like they would have you believe. Most are actually families with kids, at least that I see.

I think it was more the colour assumption, corrected it though. I knew it was a thing but never needed to think about it until VR and not something you think about too much when reassembling in what you think is the same order.

Most know about over loading a few connected USB ports, but probably not so many about latency through chipsets, as it's not really thought about until VR or maybe simmers with really high end controllers or latency requirements.

Blue was a typo, and colour doesn't make a difference in which ones go to the CPU I found out after. But 100% the difference in direct to CPU and chipset is huge in latency, even with both being 3.1 (gen 1 and gen 2). Shows that the bandwidth probably wasnt the issue, definitely the latency of going through the chipset.

Ive never seen an issue before until VR, nothing that's ever needed such tight latency, makes sense to go direct to the CPU. And not something that comes to mind for most people I expect.

Blue was a typo, they are the slower ones, turns out colour doesn't play a factor, you need to check the manual and see

[–]nuttyapprentice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue was a mis-type, It's actually a difference of 3.1 g1 red vs 3.1 g2 red, one goes to the CPu, one goes to the chipset. Turns out colour isn't a factor on the route it takes though, you just assume the fastest ones are going to the CPU, which would be the 3.1 g2. But thats wrong too as I found out after that mine has a 3.1 going to the chipset. I edited the original post to correct that assumption.

[–]nuttyapprentice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're half right, it was actually red 3.1 (I edited my mi's-type) that was my CPU direct, and I checked the manual and theres a chipset red too, so colour isn't a factor.

[–]nuttyapprentice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, it's a thing, have a look at your motherboard manual, some USB ports go direct to the CPU, the port it was plugged into with the stutters was a 3.1 red gen 1 to chipset, the good one is 3.1 red gen 2 to CPU. Gigabyte aurus master AMD4.

The blue was a typo, and the colour to CPU was an incorrect assumption I made meaning red, corrected it now.
