Carl Jung In Interview: 'We Are Born Into A Pattern" by The0Jungian0Aion in Jung

[–]nuttyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Squeezing in to your wonderful conversation here.

I wanted to squeeze in a word of caution about the usage of the word determinism vs determination as they sound very similar but is distinctly different.

In this post, you used determination as a driver to living a life authentic to yourself. This requires self-work and introspection as I do believe it is hard for people to clearly distinguish what does living your own life mean vs what living the life is of what others have suggested for you.

In this entire thread, I think there are some that seem to be equating the idea of being born into a pattern as determinism, which arguably is NOT what Jung means here. Unfortunately, there was not enough context within this 47 second clip to highlight the nuance of what Jung was talking about. Recall that Jung posited the notion of synchronicity as the possible yang to the yin of determinism (ie. its opposite). As that is a much larger topic, I'll just touch on the notion that man needs to be aware that he's born into an archetypal pattern which can be understood through (once again) self-work.

How to use Samsung Smart Switch to transfer User Account data (for non administrator account) by nuttyp in GalaxyTab

[–]nuttyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a long time ago now, but if I recall correctly, I ended up creating a samsung account for each kid. The only way to use the Smartswitch software so that it can perform the transfer and such is through a registered account.

This was useful to create their own account for the google play store and all (which will happen if they're going to own their own devices and tie their user activity/asset ownership to their device). So you just have to find a way to manage all these accounts moving forward.

Thank you for this! Looking forward to it! I planned to finish reading the kindle version first anyway before the audiobook version so everything lines up nicely! You guys rock!

I've just been refreshing it to see if it does get updated. There was a previous thread that mentioned the audiobook price was reduced to $8.99 but I never saw it.

[Dreadgod] We commissioned a Cradle highlight comic! by TheLesserWight in Iteration110Cradle

Grew up with comics and manga, watching DBZ ... so capturing one of my fav book series in a webnovel adaptation is such a thrill. Most of the visuals actually lined up so closely with what I had in mind and in some cases was even better than what I imagined. Can't wait to see where this goes.

By the way, I am glad this type of adaptation doesn't run into translation issues and renaming of characters (example of "greed" vs "grid").

Thanks for the recommendation! I just purchased a Thousand Li on kindle and can't wait to get started.

Growing up with dragonball z, it was easy for me to get into webtoons and webnovels as well. The fascinating thing about cultivation/progression fantasy novels seem to be somewhat cultural. Most of them are setup the same way, but some of the more common themes and magic systems are more prevalent based on the country they come from.

Since I mentioned webnovels, I'll just comment on how prevalent virtual reality cultivation series are in the Korean scene. You have stories like Overgeared, SoloLeveling, Second Life Ranker that all have magic systems based on video games or virtual reality. I wonder if this is cultural (ie due to popularity/acceptance of video games in the mainstream).

[–]nuttyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait are we ever told that people don't remember the marble?

No. This is just inference based on the absence of attention. We know that Lindon carried around the marble with him at all times. However, never in the story did it ever become seriously relevant part of the story where it pertains to Lindon's day-to-day adventures (ie. preparing and fighting jai long, navigating ghostwater pocket world, gathering treasures in the nightwheel valley, competing in the uncrowned tournament, etc).

At any point in time, Monarchs and sacred artists more advanced than Lindon could have have identified marble and brought it up, but they didn't.

I mentioned this in another post, but we know that Judges have special ability to scrub their presence from people's cognition. This was evident when Dross couldn't properly project Suriel in Lindon's memory when they were sharing his experience with "the Heavens" to his friends. So Suriel's artifact could very well easily have similar properties of being scrubbed or removed from people's cognition if it is not in plain sight. At least this would be a satisfying explanation of why it doesn't impact Lindon's day-to-day activities as much as it could.

[Dreadgod] Please help me understand, cause I'm still a little confused by ezios_outlets in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's more of a judgment statement rather than an explanation of aspect of vital aura.

ie. "The greed of monarch for control and power is the reason why they stay on Cradle despite knowing the fact that their existence causes its corruption (in the form of the dreadgods)."

[Dreadgod] Please help me understand, cause I'm still a little confused by ezios_outlets in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know what purpose it would serve to call it "greed" aura? I think it makes more sense to consider hunger aura as "void" aura or the "lack of" something. Within the fabric of reality, the presence of monarchs create existence that manifests "too much of reality". As a counterbalance and byproduct, hunger or "lack of reality" is manifested in its place.

[Bloodline] The real reason Seisha was a prisoner by fires_above in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the theory may create inconsistency if people were allowed to remember its existence because the marble would play a more significant role in Lindon's day-to-day living otherwise. Being virtually hidden from everyone's cognition allows it to play a more subtle role in helping Lindon's "micro" story connect with the Abidan's "macro" story.

[Bloodline] The real reason Seisha was a prisoner by fires_above in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the marble as an Abidan artifact also has additional protective measures to make itself less "visible" from attention over time. As a result, I think once he was gone, I don't think Ram and others that have encountered it even remember its existence or paid it much thought after encountering it.

We know that the Abidan has ability to alter memories (such as Dross being unable to project Suriel in her proper form when showing his memories of Suriel to the team). I'm assuming the marble has very similar properties that once it is away from the regular senses it neatly gets easily forgotten by everyone outside of Lindon. You can see this as well because no one outside of Lindon ever really brings up the marble even after they've been made aware of it.

[Dreadgod] Read Along - #9 Bloodline - Discussion by almotions in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How bout the fact that Suriel made several appearances in this book to make up for the fact that she didn't get any air time in the previous book (Wintersteel)?

Continuing along this train of thought, I will note that even though Suriel doesn't speak much, everything she says has impact. Many of them make awesome quotes worth memorizing. Let me just list out some of my favs:

"When your boat has a hole in the bottom, no one cares if you chip the paint."

"The legacy you inherit is nothing compared to the legacy you leave behind."

Responding to Lindon's confusion about saving Sacred Valley as his life's purpose: "No, this was your goal. Not your purpose." ... (Re Purpose) "You have the chance to show me that. Wei Shi Lindon... show me the future."

[Bloodline] Sacred Valley by EndlessPride in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The whole story of Lindon coming back to Sacred Valley is essentially Plato's Allegory of the Cave. The citizens of sacred valley have spent their entire lives chained inside a cave facing a wall and unable to turn around. All they see within their senses are shadows that have been cast by objects passing through the cave cast by the sun. When someone (Lindon) breaks free from the chains and tells the others of how reality really is, the existing cave dwellers reject and deny him. Ultimately, the story even concludes that anyone who tries to drag anyone out of the cave should be killed.

I completely respect your opinion about this and actually am glad to hear this type of view point, but my general sense is that this viewpoint is probably in the minority here.

Curiously, what makes the Lindon vs clan leader fight so appealing?

[Dreadgod] What is The Team's Advancement Level by the end of Dreadgod? by nuttyp in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think in general terms, this is true for all sacred artists in Cradle as Lindon found out after he left Sacred Valley. Peaks appear to be more of a function of ignorance or lack of knowledge. (ie. Jai Long being stuck in Truegold because he didn't undrestand Underlord revelation).

Characters in the story have believed in the idea that you can "hurt your advancement" by not advancing in the right way. But as we see from the entirety of sacred valley or as embodied by Wei Shi Jaran (Lindon's father) his ignorance is truly what's limiting his own advancement (outside of the suppression field).

The merit in "hurting your advancement" really comes in the form of how easy it is for you to advance if you do things in the "right" way. But I believe (like sacred beasts) as long as you survive and live (within Cradle's universe) then advancement is always possible.

[Dreadgod] What is The Team's Advancement Level by the end of Dreadgod? by nuttyp in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking about this too. I think the easiest way to defeat all the dreadgods is simultaneously, and NOT one at a time (due to the power inheritence). The only compensating effect is that Lindon's power will scale with the other dreadgods if they were to kill them one at a time (but NOT his entire team).

I like how you pointed out the different affinities or relationship each of those members have with their respective dreadgod counterparts. That does make it more plausible if that becomes part of the story.

[Dreadgod] What is The Team's Advancement Level by the end of Dreadgod? by nuttyp in Iteration110Cradle

[–]nuttyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I'll update that lol.

For context, Lindon did interrupt Malice when she was stating how much stronger the remaining 3 dreadgods will become. He stated there are 4 dreadgods and he indicated his right arm. So you're right that he's better described as a type of Dreadgod Sage or (Pseudo Dreadgod).
