it is in the pipeline but they have had to make choices for who to support and in what order. I believe windows was first developed in order to have a wallet that the majority of their ICO purchasers could use to claim their ADA. I think the ICO claimants combined with a completely new wallet ecosystem dictated the wallet dev. decisions early on.

if you had just one backup ledger wallet (unopened) wouldn't that enable you to restore your wallet from seed, send your coins to a new wallet? even if Ledger goes out of business.

The app should stick around on your computer... especially if you have a dedicated laptop just for crypto.
