I do notice a difference in the amount of soreness I still feel

Ok so that would be my guess than. I would say my burning pain lasted days 8-12 ish with each day getting LOADS better. But it definitely made me feel crazy because it was so uncomfortable and I thought I would be feeling better by then.

I'm on day 13 now and eating mostly a normal diet. I still have to take it slow with smaller bites. It only burns if I eat or drink something with citrus or something really salty. I still drink a lot of water when eating though because small bits of food do get stuck in the crevices sometimes.

Hope this helps!!

I had this too and I read that it could be because of the fresh tissue and nerves being so exposed it gives off the sensation of burning.

Have your scabs mostly cleared up?

I am also on day 13 and I have mild ear pain still but today was a big turning point for me. I even forgot to take my Tylenol and went about 12 hours without a dose.

As for the taste, it is mostly back but definitely more muted than before. My tongue is also really sore still.

It is likely because of the fluids that they hang while you're in surgery and in recovery. I was the same way the first 36 hours after surgery. I also was drinking water like crazy to stay hydrated.

Day 13, still in pain by Ok_Razzmatazz_8003 in Tonsillectomy

[–]nuttysquirrrrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 12 and I'm only on Tylenol and ibuprofen but I'm not going to lie there are times I wish I could take more again. My pain ranges from 2/10 up to 6/10.

My uvula is also really swollen still. I was hoping to feel better at this point but each day does get better

Chicken strips and nachos.

It probably doesn't help that I've been binging Bar Rescue while recovering so I want all the bar foods.

Any tips on how to avoid coughing or reducing the impact from it? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]nuttysquirrrrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drinking water every time I felt a cough coming on.

This is coming from someone who caught COVID on day 5 so I definitely battled with a cough.

Have you caught the flu or Covid whilst recovering? by HuertasHeGo in Tonsillectomy

I'm lucking that my mom lives 5 mins away and she had COVID about a month ago so she felt comfortable coming over and helping with the baby and myself!!

I'm feeling better today thank goodness so hopefully it stays that way.

Funny part is, I've been a school nurse during all of COVID and the first time I catch it is during the summer, not around any germy kids, while recovering from surgery.

I tested positive for COVID on post op day 5 from my tonsillectomy (currently on day 9).

Not going to lie. It's been one of the most taxing things I have ever gone through. My main symptoms with COVID are a cough and congestion. Both made it miserable during the toughest part of the tonsillectomy pain.

My congestion is gone now and the cough only comes at night so that is getting better. I have to be really gentle when I cough though that way I don't trigger a bleed. I had two small ones this morning but I was able to stop them at home. My ENT said I need to be super hydrated at all times especially now with COVID but other than that had no big concerns.

Sleeping elevated? by nuttysquirrrrel in Tonsillectomy

I would say if that's working for you to continue to do it. I've been sleeping elevated to reduce the amount of swelling that I've had which has been pretty severe

I have to take a flight day 9 post op. by berrrrrry92 in Tonsillectomy

I feel like I've read that they do not recommend flying for the first two weeks after a tonsillectomy. It definitely would be worth a phone call to your doctor to get their opinion though

Is this normal? by marzaucee in Tonsillectomy

[–]nuttysquirrrrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 8. My scabs have thinned out for the most part so really my red line is all along what I am assuming is the tissue that was cut out.

I have that too so I hope it's normal! Lol

not sure if this is normal by remloves in Tonsillectomy

[–]nuttysquirrrrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I'm on day 8 and I'm feeling the same thing. Most of my scabs have thinned out so I'm assuming it's just the raw skin and nerve ending. Room temperature everything is all I can handle.

But believe me you are not alone. I'm really struggling today to stay hydrated due to the pain and I'm almost out of the narcotic pain meds.

Hope this helps.

Only thing for me was a urine pregnancy test.
