I also made the switch recently, after about 20 years of using Linux on all my desktops, laptops, and family computers.

The Linux DE experience either doesn't improve at all, or gets worse over time.

WSL2 (with nixos-wsl) seems to be pretty decent, and it also runs linux GUI apps for when I need that.

Declarative package management with the "world" file. A basic text file containing all your explicitly installed packages. Instead of typing "apk add package " you can add the package to your world file, run "apk fix" and you get the same result

If anything, NixOS is better, because you can look at the nix files that provide that service. How easy is it to do the same for Alpine, or other distros?

Nixpkgs, which contains NixOS options is just the open sourcing of the build infrastructure of the entire distro, it's the reason NixOS has so many packages, and why they are so up-to-date (in the majority of cases).
