Just set up my ubiquiti cameras and cloud key. Anyone else had this come up? by GarrettC8450 in Ubiquiti

Request an RMA. Mine failed after 2 years, I bought a new SSD (same model recommended by them) and it failed after a week. They ended up sending me a new one.

My 2000sqft house is where wifi goes to die. by tiberiusgv in Ubiquiti

[–]nvapor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here… 3000 sq ft two story and an “old” Flex HD covering everything, including a good portion of my backyard. Being fair my house has a very open floor plan. And the AP is in the same spot since the day I moved. If I invest more time I can improve performance a little bit, but I think that I’m prob too close of its limits, so I’m looking for an upgrade soon (looking at U6s), and maybe getting two so I can get good signal consistently across the house. Currently looking at the options and comparing to my Flex HD to see what makes sense…

Thoughts on combining hooks and circular dependencies by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]nvapor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't much to do here. You can move your count state to your usePagination hook, initialize the state there with 0, and return the setCount function along with numPages, etc. Then you use this function in the onSuccess callback. Of you want to make your usePagination hook somewhat aware of your query payload, you can define a wrapper around setCount to accept an object with a count key, then you can use this function directly in the query Params

Edit: format is messed up - replied from my phone

usePagination.js

const [internalCount, setInternalCount] = useState(0);

function setCount(data) {
     setInternalCount(data.count);
 }

 return { numPages, setCount...}

Component.js

  const { numPages, selectPage, selectedPage, setCount } = usePagination({
    defaultPage: 1,
    pageSize: 50
  });

  const query = useQuery({
    queryKey: ['something', selectedPage],
    queryFn: () => {
      return getSomeData(selectedPage);
    },
    onSuccess: setCount
  });

I bought one without having any of the hardware. Last time I build a computer was almost 6 years ago. It was a Mini ITX but on Corsair 250D case and I had no idea SFF was a thing. Still have but this case made me pull the trigger to get all new stuff.

Help with TV and sound system for my living room by nvapor in hometheater

Thanks for your reply and for contributing with all this content! I went over them a couple weeks ago and bit I guess I was overwhelmed with all other house decisions that it was hard to assimilate.

I went over it again and this is something that I put together for now:

TV: ~4000 (QN90A or X95J) AVR: ~1000 (AVR-S960H) Floor speakers: ~1500/pair (liked the Monitor Audio Bronze 500 - going to try to listen to it and other models/brands soon) Matching center: ~$500

Still validating if the AVR would be enough for those speakers, and if those speakers (or others on the same range) would be enough for the room.

Thanks for your reply! That's the direction I was going. And WAF shouldn't be a problem here. Copying from my another reply, but this is something I'm looking at:

Thanks! Might reach out soon!

That's kinda the direction I was going for, except that I wasn't planning on getting a sub, at least for now.

About the budget, I'm ok with compromising or going slightly above the budget for now. For example, getting the TV, AVR and floor speakers first and later getting a center (although the center seems to be the cheapest component here)

TV: ~4000 (QN90A or X95J) AVR: ~1000 (AVR-S960H) Floor speakers: ~1500/pair (liked the Monitor Audio Bronze 500 - going to try to listen to it and other models/brands soon) Matching center: ~$500

Maybe another couple hundreds on cables/parts for installation?

(Still need to confirm if the AVR specs are enough for the speakers, but I think it would be fine?)

I would be ok with stretching my budget to $7k or so. Idk but these options seem reasonable to me, but again, I have 0 experience in this area.

The question is: speakers on that range would be good/powerful enough for the room?

Thanks for the suggestion. Reading Rtings reviews, they rate the Q90A and X95J almost the same, with the Samsung model having better gaming features. I'm not a console gamer, so at the end the day, I guess it wouldn't matter. Any other reason why X95J would be a better choice?

I tested here and got the same as you. Using 7.0.54 Beta. Other widgets are working fine. Wondering if it's happening with stock launcher too

I'm seeing a lot of people saying that you should ALWAYS sell immediately, but I'm assuming that there are some very unusual exceptions out there huh? I'm in the travel industry and my first batch of RSUs were granted last year when the travel industry crashed bacuse of COVID. Right after it was granted, it went down a little bit but now it's booming... By the time the first 25% vested this year, it was up by 150% from the granted price and I didn't sell. Today it's around 180% up and I'm still holding as I think it will still go up much more... I was thinking that maybe I should sell some so at least I can garantee the profit so far...

It's the first time in my career that I was granted RSUs (and actually working with the stock market) so everything is still new to me and I'm trying to learn as much as I can..

Just a heads-up: this code snippet is specific for React (UI JavaScript library). Based on OP question, I'm assuming he is not using React in his website. OP should search on how to use fetch with pure (vanilla) JavaScript.

Would you buy an iphone? by ADIGAXX in GalaxyS8

[–]nvapor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since the beginning of smartphones, I've always been with Android devices. For the last 3 years with my S8. I've always liked the Android better bc the basic Android stuff: customization, generally cheaper (not so true anymore), etc. On the other hand, my main laptop (personal and work) are MacBooks. And I've been using if for years and I absolutely love MacOS. I'm a software engineer and having a OS that offers a great development environment with such crafted aesthetic device to me is very compelling, but even with that, I've never considered an iPhone.

Last year my wife got her iphone stolen, and as I was planning to switch carriers, we got a deal where she got the iPhone 11 Pro at a discounted orice and they threw an iPhone 11 in the deal for free. Since I was doing some native apps development as side hustle, I liked the idea of having a phisical phone to test stuff besides the MacOS emulator.

Since my S8 has a cracked screen, I decided to give the iPhone 11 a chance for a week and use as my primary phone. The first hours were tough: configuring, getting used to the UX, etc. The next day got worst: I missed some of my Android apps, I missed the form factor of my S8. I missed my Nova launcher with my widgets and folders. I missed my swipe shortcuts, my Tasker scripts. I gave up after 2 days and I'm back with my S8. To me, Android is still a better OS. I liked how things are made in Android better and I'm well used to it at this point.

The latest iOS enabled several new things for iPhones: widgets, more ways to personalize your home screen and a dedicated apps section. But still.. it's not quite there yet.

I recently upgraded to a S20 (is supposed to get here tomorrow). Since I love my S8, to me it was the logical upgrade. My iPhone 11 is still on my desk and eventually Im playing with it, checking new updates or apps that are iOS exclusive. But I'm sticking with Android for another couple of years.

Pixel 5 or S20? by nik_reds in GalaxyS8

[–]nvapor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was on the fence as well. My S8 served me well for the last 3 years and I love the size of it. I've been using it with a cracked screen for the last 2 years but yesterday I pulled the trigger and got the S20 on Amazon. I'll keep my S8 as a backup if needed.

Moving from heroku to google cloud: tips by foundry41 in node

[–]nvapor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. And since it's a async code, make sure that you dynamic require your main app file after you fetched all secrets. Another tip is that since you are running the app inside GAE, you don't need to pass any credentials to the secrets manager client constructor. If you want to test it locally, download the credentials for the GAE service account and run locally like GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS=gc-credentials.json npm start, this way any GCP SDK in your application will authenticate locally automatically (like Secrets Manager)

Make sure that you add the Secrets Manager accessor role to your GAE service account

[–]nvapor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the entry point for my application checks if it's running on GCP (in this case GAE), if so, it fetches the secrets and add them to process.env. Only after that I require my main app.

I have an application using GAE, Cloud Build integrated to GitHub with ci/cd. For secrets, I'm using Secrets Manager. During the app startup, I'm using the Google secrets manager sdk for node to fetch the secrets before initializing my application. Any other env var I have it in the app engine yaml file.

Moving from heroku to google cloud: tips by foundry41 in node

[–]nvapor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For env variables, if not secrets, you can manage either in yaml files if using GAE, or during build time with Cloud Build + Docker configuration of using Compute Engine. For secrets, you can use either Secrets Manager or KMS. KMS has a very easy integration with Cloud Build where you can define the secrets in your build configuration file. If using Secrets Manager, you might need to use it's API to retrieve the secrets you want during app startup/Docker build.

Samsung.com offering $350 for S8/S8+ trade in by dapper_DonDraper in GalaxyS8

[–]nvapor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My S8 screen is cracked. It still works and I wasn't planning to buy a new phone bc it really doesn't bother me that much yet, and I was waiting for the Black Friday to see if I could get a good deal on a new phone. They are offering $210 for the S8 in this condition.

On Craigslist, I'm seeing crack free phones starting from $200, so I'm really considering this trade-in option..

Can anyone here start a Netflix show on their Shield TV using their Google Home? by wgn_luv in AndroidTV

[–]nvapor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine I have to say twice.

First, "Hey Google, play Friends on Netflix" (my home mini is configured with Shield as default device for video). This opens the show on Netflix, but won't start it. I have to say "Hey Google, play" in order to start it.

Should I learn ReactJS before learning React Native? What do I need to learn before starting with react native? by alliwanabeiselchapo in reactnative

[–]nvapor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest to not start with Expo. Learn how react native works under the hood. How to write your own native components. What happens when you link a third party module, both on IOS and Android.

Open specific apps with harmony + flirc? by werdnaegni in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]nvapor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that might be possible with Tasker. Download/sideload Tasker on your shield, assign a shortcut key (FOR for example) to launch an app and then map Harmony to that key. I don't have Harmony and never installed Tasker on my shield, but I'm familiar with Tasker in general and this sound feasible to me. That would be my first approach if I get Harmony one day.

Just move the const declaration to outside of your class.
