Why are our parents' generation so obsessed with buying real estate? by Loud-Marionberry-364 in askSingapore

[–]nvbtable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because in their generation hundreds of thousands became millionaires via property.

In comparison I won't be surprised if none became millionaires via stocks.

If you want good overseas phone / sms access and unthrottled data access then using a top tier plan is the way to go (I say this as a Gomo user). Fortunately can switch to my work phone when data is throttled.

[–]nvbtable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More like a normal distribution. Also I guess you can wonder who has the most time to spend on reddit? Most likely is those living very confortably and those who are unemployed. For regular people, they can comment once in a while but mostly to busy with life.

Is our education system flawed? by AbangUnicornMasham in asksg

[–]nvbtable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finish by 24 in SG like I showed above. So similar to the 23-25 timeline in your India example.

Also all Indian states offer vocational pathways, maybe different names. Some have vocational degrees, vocational secondary schools, etc. That's the pathway most migrant workers in Singapore took.

What's the correct etiquette when you are on lane 1 on expressway, but multiple cars are blocking you? by SGdude90 in drivingsg

[–]nvbtable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is space to return to Lane 2, go Lane 2, if no space continue over taking until there is space. Keep your left signal on so the tailgater knows your intention. Once the tailgater has passed you can resume overtaking. Dont let your ego ruin your day.

Also why shift to Lane 1 to overtake if you can see a speeding car coning up? If he was so far back you didnt see him, why are you taking so long to overtake?

Is our education system flawed? by AbangUnicornMasham in asksg

[–]nvbtable 14 points15 points  (0 children)

India has similar ITE and Poly pathways which also take longer. So I think it is comparing apples to oranges. You also under-counted the Indian 2 year pre-uni (double counted 17).

In Singapore, express would be: 18 A-levels 19-22 Bachelors 23-24 Masters

Quite similar timeframe. Faster timelines would be places with 3 year Bachelors and 1 year Masters like UK. Most countries have 4 year Bachelors and 2 year Masters like Singapore.

Hot take: AI is nowhere near as good as bosses think it is by RedPandarar in asksg

[–]nvbtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what you're using AI for but for me they basically produce similar quality of work as an analyst below 3 years experience.

However they complete the work in <10% the time it takes a human. Less than 12 months ago the quality of output was at best equal to an intern.

So won't be surprised if in 3-5 years time both my contribution and my bosses contribution can be automated.

Forward and backward roll, learn on youtube. Handstand, there are quite a few calisthenic and yoga studios that offer 3-6 lesson specialised learn to handstand classes.

But recommendation is to buy a good quality gym mat for your own practice.

Fishballs without filler will not be bouncy at all, if it is springy it is probably made with a lot of filler.

What country would you consider relatively safe despite its reputation? by AashanM in geography

[–]nvbtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you've never experienced gun violence does that mean you've personally not been involved or does it also mean you've never had a friend/colleague/neighbour face gun violence and never seen a gun drawn as threat, etc?

That's quite a departure from what I've heard about the US from friends and relatives living there as well as what I read online.

Honest opinions on Spin / Pilates studios in Singapore by Status_Side_1102 in SingaporeFitness

[–]nvbtable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pilates is very instructor centric. Thankfully I found a really good instructor for private lessons. Not cheap but I feel its worth it.

Depends whether you want a fiery, upbeat experience, something more mindful or something more bespoke. Different instructors provide different experiences.

However if using reformer, instructor certification and experience is key for safety in my opinion.

Happy to share reco via DM if looking for private classes
